    Pros +

    • We love staying here when we travel across to Orkney. The staff are so friendly and the rooms are exceptionally clean and comfortable. The food is delicious. The little touches in the dog friendly rooms are a delight!
    • We Stayed at the Castletown Hotel with our 2 Springer Spaniel pups! And have to say they were catered for superbly. It genuinely is dog freibdly not just dog tolerated. Room had dog bowls handily full of treats (which lasted not long) dog blankets in the room as well. The dogs were allowed with ud in the lounge for an evening meal and breakfast both of which was delicous!! My wife is a vegetarian and had plenty to choose from. The serving staff were freindly, making a fuss over the pups, checking if they needed water ss it was nice and toasty in the loung. Breakfast although e4 did booke the latest slot to endure we werent taking the pups in st full breskfast swing. We will definately be back. The breach and Dunnet Bay are beatiful and provide great wlaks
    • Castle town hotel contacted on my day of arrival to ask if I’d change to a sister Hotel the Norseman in Wick.So this review is really for the Norseman hotel which was really quite tired and need a refresh or upgrade to modern hotel standards. Everything was really dated. After the previous night in a Marriot which was significantly cheaper, the Norseman which was a let down. The only saving grace was a good breakfast in the morning otherwise I couldn’t wait to get away.

    Cons -

    • There was nothing to dislike
    • We didnt dislike anything about the hotel
    • Whole hotel is extremely tired. Seriously need modernising as it’s all worn out.

We were advised the morning of our stay that we had to change hotels as we were the only booking for the 2 nights. This was inconvenient but understand the reasons.

    As above

[  ] large room(superior)[  ] large bathroom [  ] bathsheets (not towels) [  ] Brilliant meal / steak evening ... best ribeye in the UK to date[  ] ample parking off street behind the hotel[  ] easy and friendly checkin [  ] locals bar / Pub and walked into a locals jamming session and made new friends

    Nothing to not like.

I was late to arrive for tea. The hotel accommodated me and I was served a lovely steak. The staff were very polite and knowledgeable. Made to feel at home and welcome.

Nice staff , a great breakfast with a good selection and nice and fresh Evening meal was very nice , you can tell freshly cooked food and sometimes the little additional things like garnish- dressings etc make all the difference. Nice decor throughout and in the room with some lovely homely touches I have tried to book here for food outwith my stays and often can't accommodate as they are popular and often booked up in peak season

I wasn't too keen on the mattress, not the best ( that reminds me I need to buy a new mattress myself at home lol )

    Friendly staff. Clean and comfortable

Food was ok but nothing special. Location ok as an overnight stay before moving elsewhere

    9AndrewPosted on: 11-3-2025

Food was excellent, I had the best dinner of the two week road-trip here (beer battered chicken with sweet chillli sauce). My wife had the Salmon dish and was equally pleased. Breakfast was the normal 'full scottish' which is a good way to start a long day.

I wasnt there long enough to find something not to like

    8NathanPosted on: 10-29-2025

The location was ideal for catching the ferry to the Orkney Islands as only 20 minutes drive from the port. The hotel was reasonably priced, and as a solo traveller, I would recommend it.

The only grip I did have was that in my room, there was a hole in the wall in the bathroom and the door from previous stayers opening the door too harshly. I took pictures from before my stay but something I wanted to point out to reception but didn't get the chance as no one was maning the desk.

We loved staying at this hotel, our room was very clean and a good size. The staff were so friendly and helpful. My husband said it was the best breakfast he has had in a hotel for a long time. Fabulous large pot of coffee brought to the table for the two of us, brewed to perfection. I loved the fresh fruit, I’ve not seen fresh fruit at a hotel breakfast for a long time, it’s usually frozen. Here we had fresh strawberries, raspberries, large blueberries, fresh pineapple and more. Would definitely stay again. Thank you

Friendly staff, good food, comfy bed and good strong shower

    9JohnPosted on: 10-25-2025

Lovely hotel, very clean and tidy, good facilities. The staff were all very nice and friendly, nothing too much trouble, very good food choices and was very good. Nice stay.

Only niggle the shower leaked all over the floor, but that’s the only niggle.

    9SharonPosted on: 10-21-2025

We enjoyed everything about this place. We would definitely stay again. We had a spacious room with a comfy bed, a nice bathroom with a fab shower and they did great food and had ample parking too.

    We couldn't fault this place
