    Pros +

    • Location was beautiful. very comfortable room. Staff were very nice as was the food.
    • It was cold in the hotel as in our room, hot water in the washbasin - no, you have to mix it yourself. The second time I won't stop there for sure. The food and staff are excellent, but there is no room.
    • Location was great, view from the room was good, room was ok, comfy for a one night stay, ate in the restaurant that evening and the food was great. Breakfast was fab too. Its a quirky layout inside, bit old fashioned, almost felt to me that they were trying with improvements but on a budget, there was no tv in the room and also couldn't find a hairdryer, I probably should have asked about that but as it was only one night I didn't bother. Staff were really friendly

    Cons -

    • Cold in room , no hot water
    • No TVNo hairdryerlighting in the room a bit too dim for my taste
    • Breakfast was acceptable but brilliant, evening meal was similar. The room was tiny and the bed wasn’t terribly comfortable. Although the staff member tried to be helpful I got the impression that she was rushed off her feet. We asked if we could book at late checkout because our coach wasn’t until 3.30pm and the hotel was almost empty with only three rooms occupied, all for the same wedding party. Unfortunately this wasn’t possible so we had to vacate the room at 10am. We were offered the dining room to wait in until the coach because it was raining heavily, but there was no food or drink available whilst we waited. I felt that we were unimportant to the hotelier, and he didn’t care about our comfort. The hotel is in beautiful surroundings so it seemed that customers would continue to visit Dornie, therefore he just didn’t have to make any effort.

Very near Eilean Donan Castle. The scallops in the restaurant are superb!!!!!

No lifts and the stairs are very narrow. Difficult for travellers with big and heavy luggages (like us) :(

The rooms were clean but the place had a bad odour and the paintwork needed doing. The manager was very nice. He told me about his Shinty teams.

The lady who booked us in was rude. Didn’t get in the door before she stopped us dead and said we had to pay first. Needs lessons in PR. We were 5 pensioners and she didn’t offer to help with our bags despite showing us upstairs to rooms. No lifts.

Pros: friendly and professional staff; good breakfast; nice clean room - although I had a small room it had a double bed and was good for me being single.Good location to visit tourist sites from; nice bar and restaurant - both the hotel bar and its nearby pub. Good food options and good meals.

It was in a good location for us. Staff was friendly and there was a restaurant on-site.

    The room/hotel was very dated.

Excellent location. Friendly staff. Nice room with sea view. Restaurant was busy with good atmosphere and food was excellent and well presented.

The fact that our stay wasn't longer!

Excellent evening meals and very friendly staff serving.

Initial impression on arrival not great. The B from Bar was missing and also the E from Hotel! Entrance door to reception hadn't seen any paint in many years. All public areas were generally tired. The room decor was not great and very dark with chipped paint work and no television. It should state on their website that there isn't a television in the rooms. A light on the table would be good. Pretty grumpy serving staff at breakfast on our first day!

Good place to stay for a Skye tour and just strosa the road from the beautiful castle. The music night at the next door pub was awesome!

Room a bit dated and the food average Overpriced for what you get

    Lovely location comfy bed

The hotel needs a bit of TLC , and a little neglected . Shame as in a fab location with an excellent resturant next door . Needed more staff s poor breakfast lady run off her feet .

Very friendly staffVery good food at restaurant and breakfast

Very expansive for the facilities ( no TV, room was tiny, the sink was old with 2 taps hot and cold, no shampoo )

The location, walk to Eilean Donan castle perfect for 1 night stop. Clean, restaurant food was very good, staff good. Room remodeled nice bed, large bathroom.

    Price a bit steep.

    2TatjanaPosted on: 9-19-2025

    Very poor

I was assigned a room over the kitchen. The noise from this was noticeable late into the evening and throughout the night when the appliances switched on. There was a strong smell of fryers that permiated my room and clothing which I had a wash when we got to our next stop. I also was bitten by bedbugs and the mattress on the bed was sagging so I felt like I would fall out of the bed. The view from the window was a mess and no curtain on one of the windows meant that whenever a car pulled out of the car park at the back it would light up the room.

Beautiful location. Near the ocean. Right next to Eilean Donan Castle. Small hotel. Great breakfast.

My toilet didn’t flush until about the 20th attempt. The main light in the bathroom didn’t work so with only fewer lights, it was dim. I couldn’t find a comfortable chair to sit and read. I did finally find there is one just as I was leaving. There’s no front desk staff. The folks in the restaurant bar seem in charge of the hotel and they are busy. It looks like a really popular place for the locals to hang out.

Everything about this hotel is perfect, but the food stands out the most. Will be bringing my family back here for a week. Perfect for Skye exploration too.

The food was good both in the Clachan Pub and in the Dornie restaurant, with good service. The location was excellent.

Our room was average at best and the whole place looked tired and in need of sprucing up!
