Pros +
- Friendly staff, good food
- Breakfast was just as we ordered. Would have liked orange juice as well as coffee without having to ask for it. Toast could have been earlier coming, especially when there was no toast , potato or bread with the cooked food. We could not understand why we had to pay for unlimited toast as an extra as it is the cheapest item to buy.
- Food was excellent.
Cons -
- Dogs running g loose on the stairs.
- The stairs.
- Room decoration and facilities were tired. Carpet had stains, wall paper peeling and damp marks, bathroom fittings rusty and mouldy around bath, bed frame falling apart.

We asked for a room with a view and we got one! Rooms are a decent size as is the bathroom and we had a little balcony overlooking the moors and Plymouth Sound beyond. Complete with Tea and Coffee making facilities. Bed was comfy, very peaceful. Attentive service at reception and in dining room. Dinner was very nice, good selection, cooked to order so takes a little time, breakfast excellent and no waiting as you pre-order the evening before. Definitely good value for money. All round a very pleasant stay and would happily stay again.
Public toilets downstairs, need a little more attention at busy times.
The Moorland Hotel certainly doesn't feel like a standard chain hotel. Although the building is somewhat uninspiring from outside the service & outstanding hospitality we received was second to none! The first thing that struck us was the amazing location on the edge of Dartmoor with superb views across the Moor & out to sea.We received a warm welcome & our room was huge, clean, warm & very comfortable. Furnishings maybe considered a little 'tired' but perfectly acceptable & more than adequate considering the reasonable price we paid to stay. The food & drinks are also very reasonably priced & the masala chai on the cuurry night menu is the best I've ever tasted!Breakfast was freshly cooked & delicious. Our overnight stay was supremely relaxing & we would definitely like to return.Thankyou to all the team at Wooter.
Amazing location on moor with very friendly staff
Tired, needs some TLC
Great location- right on the edge of the moor. Views across to Plymouth Sound. Ideal stop if walking the Dartmoor Way. Staff very friendly and dinner was good. Had a nice slipper bath in my room - ideal after a long walk!
Whole place was a bit dated and need of a refresh. Cooked breakfast was good but would be nice to have some buffet options without having to pay extra.
Idyllic moorland location that offers stunning views of Plymouth Sound and the Cornish coast. The hosts were warm and friendly from the moment we walked through the door and work tirelessly to ensure that their guests have a memorable stay. Fabulous food with both the evening and breakfast menu offering a good choice of well-presented delicious dishes. The restaurant is perfectly situated at the rear of the hotel allowing guests to take in the tranquil moorland setting whilst enjoying the excellent food and welcoming ambiance.
The building itself would benefit from a brush of paint here and there, but everything else that the Moorland Hotel offers more than makes up for this. The hosts, location & food are all superb.
Beautiful location stunning views, friendly helpful staff
Very dirty, needs a thorough clean, built up dust, nasal bodily excretions on bathroom wall, and splatters on mirror, sticky dirty substance on desk and bedside tables, stained carpets, hair on pillows on fresh clean bedding.
Lovely comfortable room, excellent food with lots of choice and the staff were lovely and very attentive. The hotel is a little bit dated but the vies are stunning.
The views were fantastic as was the location.
Despite showing as open on the website, when they turned up someone shouted from a window - what do you want? Clearly had no idea they were arriving. Rooms not very fresh - covered in dust. Food OK apart from the sauces that were over 7 months out of date. Overall a very very tired building.
We had breakfast and evening meals. The food was excellent and in good portions. The manager and staff are very friendly and extremely helpful. Nothing was too much trouble for them.We will be back to the Moorland Hotel in the future without a doubt.
The evening meal and the breakfast was fantastic. We both had steak in the evening and both were cooked to our liking. Plenty to eat at breakfast. Staff were friendly and we felt very comfortable.
Stunning views from the bedroom and dining room right over Plymouth and the Cornish coast for miles. Staff go out of their way to be friendly and helpful. Excellent lamb madras!
The building itself is dated and a bit shabby. But the staff very much make the best of the limits of that.
Location was perfect with fantastic views! The hotel itself was a little tired, but clean! But the staff were fantastic.
Just that the hotel could do with a little updating.
The room was very comfortable and the food excellent. The staff were friendly helpful and willing - always cheerfulExcellent views and position
Just little things like tightening the fixings - hook on back of toilet door (room 10) and oiling the sliding doors leading onto the balcony
To be honest, the hotel looks like it has recently changed hands. Some money has been spent tidying the public spaces but certainly the room we were in left a lot to be desired . The carpet was stained and I certainly did not want to walk on it in bare feet. The shower/ bathroom was tired, the grouting stained and the flooring delaminating. The staff were friendly but not personable.Well positioned for a visit to the Dartmoor zoo, a must see.
There was no hair dryer in the room, we asked for one and were promised it would be left in the room, it never arrived. The hotel has the potential to be very good but it is going to need a lot of money and work to make it so. Breakfast was, ok but not brilliant, the bacon was not great and had obviously been cooked and then kept warm.
Beautiful view from our room, clean and comfortable room booked very last minute,. Staff lovely. Food great. Good value for money.
The property is well located in a quiet area with easy access to major roads if needed. The staff were very welcoming, professional and provided a great service with a lovely restaurant providing quality but very affordable food.plenty of space for parking ,clean rooms with great sea views nothing not to like.

The staff were friendly. Room was comfortable
The room and hotel was dated but you can see they're trying to do it up. The room smelled a bit of dogs we had a dog with us and we know they can smell but we also know you can clean a room well and not have the smell so room for improvement there. But that said it was a nice size and the bed was super comfortable and plenty warm enough. The food was ok not the best but not the worst it was a bit strange though ie branstone pickle on a curry rather than mango chutney and garlic mushrooms on a full English breakfast little bit strange. To us they seem a little bit confused in which direction to go with the hotel they're trying to go a bit upmarket but for us and the location they're in they need to be a bit more homely with a menu to match. In saying all that we would stay there again to try it out we really hope they succeed because the staff are great
