Pros +
- Staff and location and lovely places to sit inside and watch the bay
- Great hotel. Location and service was excellent
- Spectacular location with amazing balcony views. Friendly service and a really relaxing and comfortable stay.
Cons -
- Probably no demand for it but Hope Cove seems to lack vegan, or gluten free options, for us Americans. Otherwise, great food.
- Bathroom in need of a refurb and modernisation. Bedroom shape doesn't lend itself to comfort or enjoyment. very small TV, necessary due to its location on the wall that, as a result had to be moved to get to the other side of the room. Bedside lights appeared not to be individually controlled so both either on or off, not ideal if one person wants to read.

Spectacular location with amazing balcony views. Friendly service and a really relaxing and comfortable stay.
Location great, breakfast very good, evening meal also very good. However the room, despite a sea view was rather cramped and tired, especially the bathroom. The room is an odd shape and is clearly a division of an older bigger room that does not work especially well. We have stayed a few time before and had sea view balcony room which is much more acceptable. We were on a budget on this visit and as a result disappointed with our choice. However the service overall was very good and the staff very helpful and welcoming.

Comfy clean rooms with a stunning view of the Cove. The staff were friendly and attentive to your needs. The atmosphere was cosy with many historical references to its past which enhanced its charm. Perfect location
Having to go home
In a beautiful spot. Staff were lovely and very helpful. We loved the laid back, old fashioned style of the hotel.
Our bathroom was in the small side, but we got used to it.
Exceptionally helpful staff and superb food
Able to hear coughing from next room suggesting noises from our room would have been heard in the adjacent rooms. Also no lift available for upper floor.
The view is absolutely out of this world. The hotel has a real charm about it. Staff were friendly and personable. Food was lovely.
Excellent varied choices for breakfast.Pleasant attentive staff who were so helpful, especially as I am gluten free.Evenings meals were really good. The hotel is a charming comfortable place to stay in a beautiful setting. We hope to return.
Nothing, it is perfect.
Clean and comfortable Good facilities Lovely breakfastStaff were super helpful and welcomingLots of history to look at around the hotel
Nothing! The decor is a bit dated but it keeps the charm of the hotel.
Superb staff and service. Wonderful location. Old fashioned in the nicest way.
The journey there is awful!!
Traditional family run hotel with very friendly and helpful staff .We will return for sure .
The bathroom was small
Great location sea view from the room.
Depending on your personal view it is quite isolated and not many facilities outside the hotel
The staff were wonderful and friendly and we love Hope Cove, we have been back a few times
Great view, lovely welcome, good value off season. Really enjoyed now.
Slightly dated room 205. Retrofitted bathroom into the space
View from restaurant and room exceptional Staff very helpful and pleasant.
The thought of dogs possibly been in the room!
The combination of its traditional, relaxed atmosphere, excellent service, superb food and the wonderful views make this hotel truly exceptional. Our room was smallish, but we'd booked a 'budget' room in the original cottage part of the hotel and knew that it would be smaller that some of the others. Nonetheless, it was quite adequate for our needs, had a pleasant shower, plenty of wardrobe space and a lovely view of one of the two beaches at Hope Cove and the cliffs beyond. The hotel has been extended several times over the years and has many different areas in which to relax, including a snug that's been constructed to look like a cabin in an old ship. The nautical theme continues with the bar front being made from the hull of an old fishing boat, a photo of which can be seen on the wall nearby. The public rooms and corridors are covered in photos of some of the many shipwrecks that have occurred in the area. There's also a picture of the crew of a wrecked ship who recuperated at the hotel after their rescue. It's interesting to see if you can find the original fireplace that they were assembled in front of. The restaurant has a long run of windows overlooking the second beach, the surrounding rocks and the Bolt Tail headland. The sunsets from there were absolutely spectacular. The staff at the hotel were extremely pleasant and clearly took pleasure in helping you in any way they could. Dressed in their formal clothing, they looked very smart. Breakfast was excellent, with a wide range of cereals and fruit to choose from and a self-service hot buffet, plus the option to order freshly-cooked eggs from the kitchen in any style you wanted. But the crowning glory of the hotel was its superb evening meals. Being Table d'hôte, there was a multi-course menu with a good but limited choice for each course, which changed daily. All our meals were cooked to an extremely high standard, beautifully served and absolutely delicious.
I'm only writing this here because there wasn't space above and it's not a criticism at all. It took a while for us to realise that the prices on the menu were for non-residents and that for residents like us on a B&B tariff, there was a fixed price of £22 (in April 2025) for all the courses, which was excellent value. Compared to the pub in the cove which was selling fish & chips for £20, the food at the hotel was outstandingly good value for money for such high quality. All in all, we'd recommend this hotel without hesitation and will definitely return at some point in the future.
Good breakfast and views were amazing from our balcony room.
Price of stay was too high for 2 nights
The breakfast had a wonderful selection. Loved the view of hotel over the beach and cliffs.
It would be nice to have a hot pool just one large one for everyone to share.
1. Breakfast was excellent 2. Dinner was outstanding The service was impeccable, the food utterly divine and the views fantastic
Nothing - it was wonderful, like stepping into an Agatha Christie novel, full of old world manners, charm and elegance
