Pros +
- Clean, comfortable and staff very professional
- The service, location and ambience of the hotel were all amazing - staff were so welcoming and friendly and it felt as though nothing was too much trouble. The location is fantastic for a walk to Bantham and across to Bigbury by ferry where you can have a lovely walk around Burgh Island and an essential trip to the Pilchard Inn.
- All the staff are very welcoming and the facilities are excellent. We had delicious food all weekend and had a very relaxing time using the spa.The views from the restaurant are quite breathtaking and even at this time of year the gardens were very tidy and looking beautiful .
Cons -
- The room was cosy , a little more space would have been good
- Double bed booked for room was actually 2 singles pushed together which for the money for room wasn't great.
- as above could have been better staffed

Breakfast was excellent, with a good variety of options.it was well cooked and brought quickly so was nice and hot.
Great venue - great facilities & the staff were friendly and helpful.Room was clean and breakfast was amazing.
Double bed booked for room was actually 2 singles pushed together which for the money for room wasn't great.
Evening meal and food at breakfast was very good indeed; dinner slightly spoiled by being forgotten and having to chase up the lone waitress still serving when others appeared to have left her to cope (which she managed with exceptional good grace all things considered)
as above could have been better staffed
Clean, smart, beautiful decor!
At breakfast we couldn’t choose where to sit and were ushered to the furthest table from the buffet, right in the corner with no view despite there being plenty of free tables with views. This seemed was such a pity as we had been looking forward to breakfast with a view and couldn’t see out! My Mum is in her 80s and found the walk to and fro to get her breakfast a bit tedious! We politely asked if we could be seated elsewhere and were told no!
The staff, all very friendly, helpful and professional. The spa.BreakfastChristmas trimmingsThe art deco touches
Just a small thing, the towels in the spa were very small. The lighting in the bedroom, difficult to see to put makeup on.
We were upgraded to a sea view automatically as they had spare rooms on the front. We asked for this at a previous hotel & was declined ! So big win here. The bedroom was very comfortable with a large balcony overlooking the gardens with a great view of the sea. Complimentary Nespresso in the room gets a thumbs up from me.The dining room decked out like a cruise ship looked 5 star. Breakfast was excellent both days - Caroline was great.Although I booked knowing there was a spa, I didn’t expect that! :-)Location to golf, beaches & beachouse was fantastic . The Village Inn was a bonus venue & very comfortable. An alternative for food or a drink. Loved the decor & roaring log fires through hotel. Plenty free parking. I can only imagine, in the summer the outdoor facilities are a big hit with families. Don’t worry we’re coming back!
There was nothing we didn’t like.
Excellent breakfasts and evening meal. Very friendly and helpful staff. Wonderful views from the dining area and bedroom.
Good location, lovely room and some nice staff. Highly recommend the Village Inn, don’t bother with the restaurant except for breakfast
Our first night dinner, and consequently the rest of our short stay, was ruined by our treatment in the restaurant. Despite the in-room directory giving the dress code as smart casual, our waitress clearly disagreed, and as I wasn’t wearing a jacket, she was rude and very unhelpful throughout the night, By way of example, she apologised to other diners for my attire (which was smart casual) and in response to a polite request to ask if we could delay our main course for a few minutes, said “I shouldn’t think so” and walked off. It was such an unpleasant and embarrassing experience that not only did it spoil the night but it stuck in our minds throughout the rest of the trip. The hotel manager’s response when we raised it with him was to explain he was having difficulty bringing all the staff with him on his modernising journey, but he did not apologise and did not seem to get that it had been a big issue for us.Very disappointing as the hotel has such a nice location, but we won’t be back
Fabulous views, lovely comfortable decor and furnishings
Corridor outside bedrooms a little tired looking
The staff were all very kind, professional and happy to help.
The spa lift did not work which made it challenging having a mobility scooter but the staff found an alternate route
Breakfast was excellent
I was woken up at 4.57AM by the sound of breaking glass as the empty bottles were removed from the Hotel and Pub next door by the rubbish contractor. As it was summer and the windows were open, I was unable to get back to sleep due to the noise of the air conditioning units outside my bedroom window. At £354 for the night for one person this was appalling value for money.
Lovely location.Pool, spa, rooms & food excellent.
The amount of kids unattended in the pool and spa.
Breakfast was wonderful, the ladies on reception are very warm and friendly, a lovely arrival. The grounds were very well kept.
Nice view from room, nice staff,
IF hotel takes full price for children they should have the same ammenities that adults. Making restrictions on pool is not fair if u booked hotel only because pool for kids!
Proximity to the coast, pub next door, Rock Pool Cafe was an enjoyable day.
Overpriced, we had stayed in hotels across Europe and UK before teaching this hotel which in our opinion offered better value for money. tired appearance, down very narrow lanes.
The outdoor pool & bar, 9 hole golf, view from our room of Thurlestone Rock, excellent food and staff that couldn’t do enough for you!
kids menu only available until 7.15pm in restaurant.
Downstairs was lovely as are the gardens and location. Staff was very good and helpful and nice breakfast.
I was disappointed in the quality of my room maybe I was given a dudd room because I had a dog? Backed onto the service car park and didn't mind not having a view but noisy with lorries unloading in the early morning and the twin bed dipped in the middle so had to put a pillow in middle, plus there no USB plugs so for that price it was disappointing.
