Pros +
- The staff were excellent - were super helpful . Breakfast was excellent, room warmBeds comfortable
- Great location with lots of nearby restaurants and two really well stocked convenience stores. Lovely cafe nearby for afternoon tea or bacon butties
- Parking facilities were near the entrance to the property. The breakfast was of a good quality and staff were friendly. The main chef who did the breakfast on Sunday morning was brilliant and gave us a warm welcome in the morning.
Cons -
- Slightly noisy due to creaky floorboards above us but it’s an old building so totally understand
- We stayed in room 01. At first glance the room looked nice and the bed was comfortable, but then we started to realise that certain things were not right. The main window, which faces the main road had no curtains, which meant that the light was coming through the window all night, which lead to us having an unsettled night sleep. My partner decided to have a bath and when he started emptying the bath there was a horrible sound from the drains, which was loud enough to hear when the bathroom door was closed and it sounded like a fog horn. The hot tap in the sink moved, which meant we had to use two hands to turn the hot tap on and there were black hairs in the sink on arrival. There was only one main light, which meant that the room wasn’t lit up as well as it should have been and the side lamps weren’t good enough to light the rest of the room up. The fridge in the room was not efficient. We turned the temperature all the way up and even after our bottle of water had been in the fridge for multiple hours it was still at room temperature. There were good hot drinking facilities in the room, but there was not enough milk to last 1 night/ 2 days. When we had gone outside later on in the night, I noticed that a member of staff was vaping in the reception area. When we left the next morning, while checking we hadn’t left anything, we had a look under the bed, which lead to us finding a hanger, one dirty old white sock and wrappers from past guests food. Parking facilities at the hotel were good, but when I went to put our cases away the next morning, a car had parked so close to my car that my passengers could not get in without me having to pull out of the space completely, which meant I had to block the entrance to the car park for a couple of minutes.
- The room was a bit cold when I arrived but warmed up later. Breakfast was a bit random - I think I'd eat in the village itself next time

Free parking outside and a comfortable room. Friendly staff.

Good bar with Sky tv, friendly staff, quiet, attractive neighbourhood, cheery cafe round the corner.
Convenient location, basic but comfortable & clean
The man on breakfast seemed as though he didn’t want to be there!Everything seemed too much of a problem!Had to ask twice for brown sauce never given the option of fried poached or scrambled egg!had to help myself to coffee!
Excellent location with private entrance to accommodation. Lovely views across the fields too.. Central to cafes, restaurants and pubs and within easy access to major roads.
Was a little cold at times.
I would not go back.
No-one in attendance when we went for breakfast. My husband had to go looking for help.Pitiful choice. Hot choice served on cold plates,no offer of toast, croissants were over baked,no cold meats or cheeses. The floor in the bathroom was uneven so door got stuck.
Spacious room, comfortable bed. Available public parking .
Previous stay was good. This time not so. Plumbing is Saniflo system and very noisy, toilet flushing , running the taps, especially the room above showering at 6.00am. Ist day asked if the bar would be open as we had to go out to eat as the restaurant is not open early in the week. We were told 10.00pm. Came back at 8.50 and we're told not very politely that we could have one drink and then he closed the bar. We went to a social club with a local guy. . Breakfast , there was only the 3 of us, and made a point of saying if we hadn't precooked he would not have come in, so felt unwelcome and a nuisance! Nicely cooked but mine was not very warm. Same next day, mine ok , my husband's not hot. Asked on the first morning if we needed anything for the room. Grabbed some tea bags. We did expect the bed to be made and cups, glasses replaced with clean, etc but the room was untouched when we returned in the evening. Nicer barman 2nd night and did get served. Disappointed and won't stay again.
Pub bar was ok
Very poor quality room. Twin room had two “beds” practically on the floor. I’m 71 years old and found difficulty getting in and out of my bed - it was just a mattress on the floor.
Helpful and friendly staff. Good comfortable room. Stayed here before, will stay again. Cannot think of better recommendation than that.
Bit tricky getting a parking space.
Location, cost
Creaky floorboards, noisy pump for the water drain on top floor
We stayed as part of a wedding party, our stay included bed & breakfast, we found to owner and staff to be very helpful & friendly, rooms were clean and the breakfast was perfect. Couldn't fault our stay at all, also must stay if your having a drink in the bar during your stay the bar has a great vibe and gets busy. We had a fantastic stay would defo recommend and stay again !
Loved the quirky character of the building, with a great choice of seating areas, inside and out. Shout out to Paul and the whole team who worked so hard to provide a great service across all areas, including lovely food and a welcoming and comfortable atmosphere.
The noise of the Saniflow system was something to get used to but definitely wouldn't stop us from a future visit
Closeness to the festival
Not very clean, a pungent smell when I entered room. Accusations from staff the following day that I had eaten a breakfast I hadn’t paid for. Uncomfortable bed.
Location was absolutely perfect for the Hardwick Festival, a short walk across the field with excellent directions provided by reception. Our room was exactly as I expected it to be given the reviews we had read in advance of arrival. A little tired with no frills (randomly there was a fridge but it wasn't plugged in). Water and biscuits, tea and coffee making facilities provided. We received a really warm welcome on arrival, had some fabulous food (chicken parmo the size of my head!) in the pub before checking in, nice space to sit outside with lots of on site free parking. The bed was really comfortable, the pillows not so much but we were only there for one night so it was absolutely fine. The toilets are noisy as described in other reviews but with ear plugs in, I wasn't disturbed at any point by other users. Slight smell of drains at one point but it was only for a short while.Decor could do with a bit of a touch up but it's an old building......MASSIVE cooked breakfast served along with a small selection of cereal, yogurts and bread for toasting.
The room was ridiculously hot - provision of a fan would be goodPillows as mentioned but that is personal choiceBrown towels in bathroom didn't look great but they were clean so cannot really complainA little tired overall but I would use again for a one night stay for the festival
Location. Our room 8 had the shower break down. Plumber not arriving until next day when we will be gone.To their credit the Hotel moved us to a beautiful suite for our last night. Don`t think they had an option as no other rooms free.
A little dated with room a bit musty. Staff so so, bbut not really bothered.
Excellent pub with rooms to let. Everything you need in one place - beer, good food, music, comfy beds. Definitely recommended!
Good spot in centre of town, even so, good night's sleep. No food, no kitchen on that night but Italian restaurant next door was good.No WIFI, not great signal. Good shower, comfy bed. Continental style self serve breakfast, basic but well catered for. Room is clean, we laid out, quite spacious.
Wi-Fi not good but it is 2 floors. No cooked breakfast.Good accommodation in town but nowhere to work in the room, no desk.
Adequate for a 1 night...
No Reception after 5pm. Facilities (Bar/Restaurant closed Monday and Tuesday}Noisy toilet flushing system. (Saniflo)
