Location, location, location. Bar downstairs was cozy and inviting.

A little disappointed that the pictures did not match my room. Vanity mirror light did not work.

Breakfast plentiful, but slow service. Only evening meal we needed was good, and very good value.

An honest description of how small, old, and uneven floors in a 16th century building - downside of that age - would have warned us.

Welcoming staff, good food and comfortable room. Located in the centre of Saffron Walden. Old building being well used.

Car park is not far and indeed not expensive however being able to pay for over 24 hours is a bit complicated. Suggest the council makes it easier for the hotel to take money for the car park via permits.

The Christmas decoration is beautiful.Had 2 dinners at the pub and they were really nice.Room is very clean and comfortable.All the staff are so friendly.Breakfast is very nice too.Wifi works fine. Be aware if you have problem accessing the log in page, just go downstairs and access the web page to log in. After that, you can freely go back to the room to use Wifi. The signal is very good.

The location is perfect for visiting Saffron Walden. We didn't eat in the hotel.

Our outside courtyard room was difficult to access via an outdoor spiral staircase. It was positively dangerous at night and when wet. The room was okay but had a number of niggling issues.

Hotel was very quaint as expected and full of character. Room was small but had everything needed for a comfortable nights sleep. Food in the restaurant including breakfast was very tasty and well presented. Staff were all very friendly and good at their job.All in all a very pleasant experience and would stay again when in the area.

No onsite parking and very early check out time.

The atmosphere, the wonderful staff( thank you Wendy and Paul), the delicious dinner and breakfast, the location. Really a beautiful historic hotel.

Overlooks the busy High Street so a bit noisy - but also conveniently central. No car parking

Could be cleaner and didn't appreciate hoovering and mopping with bleach while we were having breakfast.

The location and building was great

Missing facilities such as coffee maker in room and no coffee even when we asked for coffee sachets they weren’t available?? There was a specials board hanging in the restaurant but we were told they were unavailable and it was still hanging there in the morning?? In the morning for breakfast there was a toaster but no bread ? No glasses for fruit juice although the fruit juice carafes were empty?

The room was a nice looking room and clean

Sadly we asked for a twin but were given a double. Also we were not told the code for the back door if arriving back after ten. (This should have been told to us at check in) we did make sure we were back by 9:30pm anyway. As we were going to sleep there were other people that couldn’t get in and broke in through the pub window and set off fire alarm! So we jumped out of bed scared!!!! We made our way out. There were no staff on the property after 10 and nobody came apart from the fire brigade. The people that broke in were also not told about the code or back door!! Also we had to stand outside in our pj’s till luckily someone came along by chance who works in the kitchen and let us in and turned off alarm. Terrible experience. And should have someone at property or nearby!!!!!

They don’t have showers in every room - so bare that in mind when you book. Wasn’t a problem for me as I didn’t need to shower

The staff were so kind and happy to make us comfortable. My daughter asked for boiled eggs, which weren’t on the menu, and they made it special by putting the eggs in cups for her. My daughter also bumped her head walking into the glass entry door and she was made to feel so important and looked after. My son loved the tiny window in his room and the age of the building, he wants to have the same room again! My father was visiting from America and loved everything. Would highly recommend!

It took a while for the water to turn hot in the shower but this was the only inconvenience and a minor one.

Clearly the hotel was short staffed we waited a while to check in and the rooms were not as expected. Such a shame as it is clearly a beautiful historic building
