- Good location. room - the suite nicely furnished, some helpful staff They provided a good venue for a funeral wake in the day.
- Rooms - small but very adequate for a night and VERY warm . Bed comfort had seen better days but again was fine for one night. All were en-suite and fine. Staff were very nice and friendly - really very good and helpful. The recent re-furb of bar and lounge/eating area was very good. Breakfast was fabulous !! Would recommend for a simple stay for the night on a B&B basis
- The room was beautiful the bed was gorgeous plus the heating in the room made it warm and the bedding was amazing. We slept really well which was very much needed. The hotel was beautifully decorated having just recently been refurbished and the breakfast was lovely as it was cooked to order - the staff were also really helpful and friendly Isobel and Elliott are doing a great job
Cons -
- The room was very cold, 1 of the 3 radiators didn’t work & the heating hadn’t been on before we entered the room, despite asking when I checked in 2 hours earlier for the heating to be put on. It was a cold evening at 0- 1 degrees The noise from the bar’s sound system was too loud to watch tv or sleep. So we left & stayed elsewhere. A man who was drinking in the bar who only identified himself as ‘the owner’ appeared to enjoy telling me he would not make a refund, saying I was going to bed too early ! Also accusing me of lying and being drunk ( neither were true) and saying the heating system in an old building isn’t his fault. . It is ! The room provided was not fit for purpose as due to the cold it was uncomfortable and due to the noise it was impossible to relax in. That’s why a refund remains due.
- Double bed was one that could do with replacing in the near future but adequate comfort for one night.
- Nothing it was perfect

Nothing it was perfect
Lovely building. Friendly staff contacted me before arrival to arrange check-in. This is because there is major building work going on in reception and bar area. I had booked so I could have dinner there and that was disappointing. However there are other food options next very close by. Breakfast is ordered by text and brought to your room during the renovation. Isobel kindly came in early to bring me breakfast so I could leave early for my meeting.
Could have advised before the cancellation time had expired about building work. I wouldn’t have cancelled, staff adjusted for the public areas being unavailable and it was fine but I think earlier warning is courteous.
Breakfast is amazing and all of the staff are so friendly and kind.Hotel had just had a refurb in the dining and bar area and the public bathrooms and it is fabulous
Room. Breakfast.location.
There was nothing to not like, and this is our fourth stay.
Staff were excellentBreakfast was excellent
looking a bit tired but we were told refurbishment is on the way
Lovely quaint property. Very clean. Excellent breakfasts and staff are all very helpful. Rooms are comfortable and have everything you need for a short stay.
Bathrooms needs updating.
Breakfast was excellent. Rooms were very comfortable. Staff were friendly.
Slight problem as key wouldn’t work getting back into rooms at night but staff sorted quickly
Lovely suite, very warm and cozy .. Staff really lovely too .. Food amazing
Unfortunately the bathroom was let down by mould around the bath, a rusty plug hole and dirt around the skirting boards .. considering this was soposed to be a luxury suite, that was a bit of a let down
Really beautiful old building. Staff were fantastic. Drinks in the pub were good.
For £130 I would have liked a bathroom that was joined to my room. Iron and ironing board inadequate.
Very comfy stay and well presented breakfast
It was noisy outside in the courtyard with people drinking but it was Xmas eve so to be expected
Located in the town centre and a nice breakfast
It does say it's an old building and floor boards are squeaky and it's not an exaggeration I think every floor board in the entire building squeaks. Busy pub on the nights I was there so quite a lot of noise from the beer garden. I could hear a constant on off whirring sound in my room I think it was the hand dryers in the toilets. Obviously quietens down when the pub shuts.
Great team, great food, great room. I really appreciated the help with the wifi. The room was warm and just right . Definitely stay there again
The situation
Our shower didn't work. The rooms are way too warm. The property needs some renovation. It feels shabby.
Cosy, warm with a decent bar and pleasant eating area.
The bathroom is in need of refurbishment; although it had been cleaned, the engrained dirt and mould around the shower and tap areas was clear to see and off putting.
Free upgrade, good breakfast, room comfortable
Bit noisy in the morning as room was above breakfast room playing music
The bar and breakfast areaThe staff were very good helpful and nice. The room was clean and warm Excellent breakfast And we got into Sheffield for Yorkshire puds
I realise it’s very 1570 or 1750 but the shower area really needs a makeover
Very rustic, good location, very friendly staff. Breakfast was yummy!
Being an old building, the ceilings were very low, I am 5ft 8 and only just managed. The husband is 6ft 5 and had to stoop the whole time (apart from the bathroom)…but that’s an us issue. Would have been nice for pre-warn. The bathroom had a lot of mould due to dampness, but it’s a room in the middle of a building. The bar was an issue, although not in the room, was quiet, but the noise in the street was quite loud from people standing outside, and also at kick out time.
It was convenient as we had a funeral to go ti the next day the breakfast was good , staff were helpful as in our original room the bed was pushed against the wall, so only one way to get in as I was sharing with my sister would not be able to get in and out easily so we had to pay another £10 each for our own single room
Concrete stairs outside going up to rooms , they were wet as it was pouring with rain I struggled to get our cases up and no one offered to help with our cases
