Pros +
- Very nice clean room and comfy bed. We could store our bikes in the room, that was very convenient. The staff were very nice and helpful. Their kitchen was being updated and out of action but they organised a minibus to take us to the Fox & Goose for dinner which was also really good food.
- The property was spacious, clean and well presented. The staff were friendly and accommodating, particularly towards our children, which as a family with young children this can sometimes not be the case. Family room was a good size. We had a lovely stay.
- The Highwayman was just the job for us. It had good car parking too! We were on a rally with vintage cars and so there was good space for trailers. The food was good- and we were happy with it! It suited our needs well.
Cons -
- I didn't have a bedside table in room 1.
- Room key cards failed a couple of times, which was a bit annoying.
- the desk receptionist was not welcoming and was exceptionally slow

restaurant staff were great and food was good, with a good selection
the desk receptionist was not welcoming and was exceptionally slow
Beautiful location! Only a couple minutes from Bakewell but so calm and peaceful. We had the best view of all the cows outside our room and the restaurant was great. I would definitely recommend this place as the perfect location in the peak district- close enough to town and for all the hiking you could want!
Friendly welcoming staff. Nice clean quiet room with a lovely view over farmland. Excellent location.
The breakfast was copious and enjoyed by most of the group. Very, very big cooked breakfast, plus cereals, pastries etc. The staff were all really nice and helpful, some of them were exceptional. Julie on reception and Kyle in the restaurant. There is a plentiful supply of tea bags and coffee. This is a good place to stay if you want to visit the Peak District and have a car. There is a local bus, but it runs once an hour. There is not a lot to do around the hotel.
The food in the restaurant was a bit hit and miss. Some of it was really good, other times it was disappointing. When we first went into one of the rooms, it smelt a bit musty, but after we opened the window it cleared fairly fast.
The location is excellent to explore all of Peak District. The staff were friendly with us and our kids. The breakfast is good value for money and was tasty too. We also enjoyed the dinner we ate one evening. For the price this was an excellent hotel.
Breakfast was very good, portion size was huge. Shower and bed were good. All very clean. Free parking.
Shower door was a bit precarious. It slid off once. Bit of a rabbit run to get to the room. Car park little far away from the room.
Lovely cooked breakfast good choices and lovely fresh cooked nice and hot food good coffee and tea choices
We were able to book the accessible room for our stay. The wet room was well designed.
The room didn’t have a radiator. We were under the impression that it was a traditional inn, but it was a generic hotel.
Brilliant breakfast, good evening meals, rooms clean and tidy ideal location
The location was great, staff were great.
The stench coming from the bathroom was vile. No one to report to on reception when we left at 8:30am
The Highwayman is a lovely place & base to explore the Peak District from, as it’s close to Bakewell, Matlock, Haddon & Chatsworth House, and nestles neatly within a beautiful landscape. We stayed for 5 nights during April & were lucky enough to have exceptional sunny weather for the time of year. You could see the mist whispering over the fields in the mornings from the view from our room window, which gave a feeling of being part of a Jane Austen novel! The rooms were very clean & staff were always helpful & attentive. The food was also exceptional for the price.I would definitely recommend this hotel.
Excellent breakfast, great food , super staff and comfortable beds
Clean. Fresh. Friendly & helpful staff
Nothing to dislike
Excellent
No built in heating only an electric fire.Water temperature difficult to control, I had only a warm bath.No wardrobesNo phone for calling reception.
Peaceful location, comfy beds, staff very helpful and friendly. Breakfast was good. Buffet style continental and cooked breakfast to order. Decent gluten free provision.
Would’ve been helpful to have two key cards for the room, although in fairness I might’ve been given one on request.
Noises fan outside window , whirring the whole time. Corridor doors are loud Great location for a wedding I attended, very clean and comfy room. No decaffe products though
The location was spot on, lovely view from our bedroom window. The receptionist (sorry I didn't get your name) was lovely, very friendly and very helpful!
