Cons -
- Install a small passenger lift for upstairs accommodation use.
- The bathroom could do with a quick freshen up.
- Unfortunately woke up the first morning with a stomach illness, not necessarily the hotel food as it tasted great. Spent the rest of the stay in the bathroom but this has not deterred us from staying again.

The property was in a wonderful location, plenty of access to stores and sites. The staff were wonderful. They checked on us frequently and extremely friendly.
I understand this is a registered building so there are limits on what can and cannot be done. There some structural damage to the windows regarding moisture and sometimes this cannot be helped and easily wiped away.
I liked the location. Nice big car park. Chicken burger was really nice and would recommend. I wouldnt recommend breakfast.
The shower in the room was either scolding hot or freezing only at 1 slight point was it Luke warm. And the fan in the bathroom didnt go off for a long time. The wondow was full of mould around the edge, so kept the curtains shut the whole time so we didnt have to look at it. The wallpaper around the edge of the room is all cracked and coming off. At least 6 ladybirds in the room on the ceiling and these came out mainly at night and was flying around which kept waking me up. Very odd to see. Walking up to the room the stairs could do with a clean in-between the spindles. This just sets the tone for the rooms. Bed was also very uncomfortable. The lights on one of the side of the beds didnt work at.
Warm & Cosy, friendly and polite staff, good food and service
We visit the Grouse once a month for a two day stay on business. Unfortunately on this occasion our room was lacking attention to detail. The carpet had small stones on the surface which suggests a lack of vacuuming. We stayed 3 nights on this occasion and on the first morning (Monday) we were heading out to an early meeting 7.30am and had not been advised that breakfast was served at 8am on a Sunday and Monday rather than 7am. We had paid for breakfast but had to miss it. Waking up on the 2nd day there was no hot water, so we had to skip our showers! The breakfast however was fabulous! We placed our room cleaning sign on the door handle headed out to work and returned at 5pm to an uncleaned room. We had to request towels and toilet paper from the bar team. We cannot fault the staff on the bar and in the restaurant. Sam was particularly helpful and polite. Breakfast on our last morning was delicious. We enjoyed two evening meals and drinks during our stay. We visit each month and are loyal customers, however on this occasion we felt a bit let down by the room and cleanliness. Best Wishes to the team we do not usually complain
The room was clean and nicely decorated, the staff were all very helpful and the breakfast was delicious. The site is only a short drive from the centre of Matlock and Matlock Bath - you can also travel to Bakewell fairly easily. There are lots of sights to see nearby, like historical buildings (e.g. Chatsworth and Haddon Hall). Overall it was well situated and provided a very comfortable stay. Would definitely come again!
Location
Room noisy , quality of food.not so good.
The accommodation was clean and very comfortable. The bar area is extremely pleasant and the food good. Staff were very friendly and welcoming, nothing was too much trouble. A good value place to stay if visiting the area.
Nothing major to report.
Big room, comfy bed and a great outdoor space with friendly staff
Could do with new windows and a lick of paint in places
The pub was nicely decorated and warm, some staff friendly and welcoming. They had a varied menu and offered a reasonable variety of drinks on the surface.
They didn't have any beers on draft even though they said they were putting it on. The breakfast was very disappointing. The room was cold when we checked in and the shower was not very hot.
Nice restaurant and good location.
Noisy electric heater in room ( clicking as it warmed up and cooled down ) . Also no towels , I had to go ask for some . Apart from that everything was fine .
The whole place was great the rooms were spacious and bathroom great, the food was great in the restaurant for dinner and breakfast was lovely as well
Good locationNice bar area
Dirty corridors and bedroom was comfy but bare and felt a bit grubby
The property was absolutely gorgeous, clean, cosy and so welcoming! The staff were lovely especially the employee who served us breakfast this morning (I didn’t get his name). Breakfast was 10/10 & the location is insane!! Overall, our whole stay was 1000/10 will definitely be returning :)
Comfortable well appointed and clean rooms, we stayed in room 6 which was spacious. The inn is cosy, warm and welcoming. Friendly and polite staff particularly at breakfast. The evening menu and breakfast were delicious. We visit each month for work and it’s our go to accommodation. Great facilities and excellent service
