    Pros +

    • view from room, pond area at front of hotel, pool looked nice, size of room, food was nice. location was fabulous shame the hotel wasn't. Matlock is a beautiful place to stay and this hotel has so much potential such a shame its like it is really. Good pictures attached.
    • We stayed in the older part of the hotel, rooms were comfortable, the evening meal was really good.
    • Good location and pleasant staff.

    Cons -

    • cleanliness of room, mold multiple places in bathroom ( lots of and very visible), bath panel split and coming off, room smell overpowering of air freshener, staff not particularly welcoming and some staff didn't speak English so couldn't help, food layout/storage was dis organised and hard to use. we were upgraded as refused to sleep in first room and the second room was only just more acceptable. The pictures of the hotel are not necessarily the room. Our room was in an extension that isn't shown in pictures as it isn't appealing but you book thinking you are staying in the main house. All towels in bathroom had holes in and bedding all had holes in ( this was the upgraded room too). Bad pictures attached.
    • Lack of heating, it was really cold in the room and although staff attempted to repair the heating, it still didnt work.
    • Breakfast was very disappointing, mostly cheap sausages and hashbrowns overcooked. We ordered a pizza from the menu one night and it obviously came out the freezer and cost around £2.Our room was outrageously hot when we arrived so we had to turn it right off and sleep with the window wide open. The next day the room smelt sightly of smoke no doubt as someone has been smoking outside.Lack of lift is irritating but I understand its an older building.

Really convenient location, just a 5 minute walk into Matlock Bath. Large carpark with plenty of spaces. Breakfast was good, plenty of hot and cold options. There was a full cooked breakfast which my husband said was nice. There were gluten free options and alternative milks available. Staff were friendly and we were always greeted with a smile. The dining area and reception were decorated nicely.

The cleanliness left something to be desired, dirty carpets that needed hoovering (especially on the stairs!). The hotel needs decorating in the rooms, there was scuffs all over the walls. I don't think we got the room that we booked, we booked a superior but the room was tiny and looked nothing like the photos. The bed was uncomfortable and very small (I'm not even sure it was double)

Beautiful location and the main building is lovely. The outdoor pool is a great attraction

We stayed in the annex. The room itself was nice and great to overlook the outdoor pool from the balcony. However, the annex is looking shabby and needs a lot of attention - especially the adjacent buildings next to the annex car park. The room felt cold and the radiator in the bathroom did not work. Carpet was dirty. We stayed for 2 nights but the room was not refreshed on the second day - so no tea or coffee etc. When I mentioned this at reception, I was told we should have hung a card on the outside of our door to request this but there was no card in the room to do this. The cooked breakfast was poor. Little choice, cheap ingredients and it looked like the hot food had been sat in the serving vessels for over an hour. The bacon was rock hard. Coffee was cold. Would have preferred a breakfast cooked to order with choice of egg etc. The only choice available was scrambled eggs. The continental breakfast was slightly better but just one type of cheese available and no cold meats etcSpent £10 to use the spa facilities in the evening. Could have been nice but I was the only one there. When I arrived, the staff member had to turn on the sauna and steam room. So they took 15 minutes to warm up and even then the stone seats in the steam room were cold! Jacuzzi was luke warm.

The outdoor pool is amazing, and it's free when you stay at the hotel. The lifeguards at the pool were so friendly. The staff were all friendly and helpful and the location is spectacular.

The room itself was a bit worn and dingy, mouldy shower sealant, and bad water pressure/drainage. It's absolutely fine, but just not somewhere you'd feel is really pleasant to spend time in the room. You do have to pay extra to go in the spa. The restaurant food was alright.

    3AngeloPosted on: 11-18-2025

The location was very serene and beautiful

The black mold growing on the landing outside room 78, plus additional water damage throughout the building. The lack of hot water for an entire day when the boiler went out. The king size bed just being two twin beds pushed together. Every security lock on every exterior door being broken so no building security.

Staff very friendly.Room very comfortable and clean .Location great .Hotel in beautiful grounds

Food choice very limited.Poor menu .Lots of choices on menu unavailable.Breakfast poor and again choices poor.We understand they have been sold and are in a transition period due to be completed soon with major and needed renovations taking place have stayed here before several times but very disappointed this time .Staff however were amazing but working in difficult circumstances.

Beds comfortable, staff very pleasant, good breakfast, pool looked great but we had to leave before it opened (9am).

Room very hot and even with window open it didnt cool down. Carpets looking distinctly tired. Lots of stairs! Coffee at breakfast lukewarm.

    8HenryPosted on: 8-23-2025

It had more atmosphere than a Premier Inn. The staff were very friendly and accommodating.

Really need a bath mat to prevent slipping and a wall handle to steady yourself when getting in and out of the bath. Could do with a blind on the bathroom window just a frosted glass to me was insufficient. Felt like you were on public show to properties to the side.

In good location, we were in a newly furnished room apart from the carpet! Loved the out door pool. Breakfast was good just didn’t seem aware of items that needed topping up.

It could have been cleaner around the hotel. Room was ok but stains on the bed sheets.

    8LauraPosted on: 8-6-2025

The staff were very polite and welcoming The bed was very comfortable The bathrooms were done very nicely

It was a bit dated in places and the stairs could have done with a hoover

    7SusanPosted on: 8-4-2025

Staff was very friendly. Breakfast was nice and appreciated that there was oat milk

The hotel looks a little tired, could use a refresh

The room was very comfortable and breakfast was excellentA beautiful hotel with lots of memories from childhood stays

The area of the hotel I stayed in was a bit shabbyThe shampoo container in the shower was empty and not refilled

    8RebeccaPosted on: 7-8-2025

The hotel was good value, location lovely. Beautifully quiet and food was pretty good.

We wanted to use the pool , but only found out when we arrived that you had to wear a swimming hat, which we didn't have. The spa was closing early, and we were looking forward to using that after a long journey. The hot water took ages to work out, then ages to come through and the bed was very uncomfortable and very low. Which was a shame

    2simonPosted on: 6-8-2025

Pool excellent though limited opening times

Very run down, tatty and in severe need of refurbishment, breakfast ok,bed was 2 divans pushed together, some lights not working, shower unit poor quality and hard to control, outer door falling off its hinges in the poolside rooms, location good and not too expensive for the area but would not recommend for spa or weddings the function rooms looked very neglected
