Pros +
- Beautiful hotel, staff were friendly and helpful. Having th golf buggy and access to the zoo was brilliant and why we chose to stay here.
- Fantastic location at the zoo.
- Everything but especially the freedom to roam around outside of 'normal' hours & the wonderful staff. HIMThe gorillas & the staff. HER
Cons -
- We stayed in a twin room which was clean and nicely presented. However, we had only a couple of hours sleep as the room was VERY noisy with the constant sound of loud running water. I don’t know where this noise was coming from but it was exceptionally loud. My daughter had to sleep in her headphones and I only had 2 hours sleep which ruined the next day as we was exhausted and cut our day short to get home to bed! There is no one in reception after 5:30 to complain to. I did tell the receptionist about this on check out but got little response.
- Shower was very poor, no pressure
- Nothing apart from the speeding ticket for being 2mph over the limit on the M25 coming home. HIMThe bar at the hotel closing early without warning! HER

A unique stay in a fascinating house in the middle of a safari park. All the staff were lovely and the room and breakfast were great. The inclusion of golf buggy, safari tour and entry to Howletts were much appreciated.
We enjoyed everything about the stay.
Exceptional location and hotel very beautifully decorated. The surrounding area it’s breathtaking and the walks around the animal’s enclosures quiet easy to navigate.
Restaurants, cafes are located quite apart from each other and without a buggy it’s hard to get from one location to another.
Gorgeous hotel bursting with character. The location was great for staying over as it is pretty central to the whole park and restaurants, also directly opposite concierge which is handy. As it is one of the more affordable ways to stay at the park I was dubious but it still felt luxurious and we got to experience all of the same add ons , like the golf buggy , as the other lodges/ huts etc. highly recommend , will definitely be back !
nothing huge to note, the bathroom was dated but it was in keeping of the house/ period.
The room and the location in the park are excellent. Staff very helpful. The hotel is very elegant. Having a golf buggy provided to use in the park was very useful.
No temperature control in the room, it did get too hot, but it is a lovely old building so maybe it has to be like this. The on site restaurant was temporarily closed so it had to be a buggy ride for breakfast and dinner but this was fun. It will be open again by the time you read this.
Great character and space, it was warm, but you have a fan. The grounds are superb, the buggy is such fun, plenty to explore and good food. Perfect family trip.
Bed mattress could have been better, but that’s it.
Breakfast was very good and served to table - but would be nice to have also self service. Atmosphere is unique. Got golf-buggy to our usage - it was great way to visit animal park. Was great to see animals and most of them had big enclosures.
Services after leaving the room could be better. For example golf-buggy useage. Transportation from Port Lympne to Howletts thru Hotell would be nice.
The hotel was so clean, beautiful, and historic. Safari truck ride, delicious breakfast were already included on our booking for 2. Also my 5 year old was given complimentary safari truck ride, extra bed and breakfast. It was a last minute booking and it was the decision I made this summer
It was summer and no AC. We were only given a fan.
The staff polite friendly the restaurants were great although we are a older couple we celebrated our diamond anniversary using the buggy was helpful we needed more signs to find areas we stayed 3 days and missed a lot have to come again
The hotel room was beautiful and we loved going out in the golf buggy after the zoo was a fantastic experience. We ate at Bear Lodge restaurant in the evening, I had the most delicious vegetarian burger ever, so nice to have something made of actual vegetables and not a slab of fake meat. The breakfast next morning in the 'garden room' was also wonderful.
We had a slight issue with bees or wasps coming into the room from a nest outside of our window but it was mid-summer with beautiful flowers outside. It might be worth the hotel checking the window seals to avoid this in future.
Incredible and magical place with scenic views and very thoughtful staff.
Could have more healthy food options - especially for little ones. Quality of coffee was mediocre at best.
Bad stay
The staff's treatment was very bad, the furniture was old, I entered the room and there were no towels, I stayed in the room and they forced me to change it and pay 50 pounds extra if I wanted to stay in it, and their excuse for our mistake was that this is not a Booking company room because Booking rooms are of a lower standard

The actual zoo was fantastic, brilliant use of the buggies and the animals and staff were fantastic.
The room was a shambolick excuse of a suite, incredibly hot room with no air conditioning. The fan provided didn't work, and another small fan was found but it didn't help. We couldn't open the curtains to let air into the room, as outside In the courtyard there were large floodlights pointing directly at the room, illuminating it like a football pitch. There was no fridge in the room, the hot water tap on the sink didn't work at all, and the water pressure on the cold tap was so low you couldn't even wash your hands. It was very strange to see an old style bathroom with a cheap electric shower on the wall and a cheap showerhead also. Very very disappointed.
Location was great, plenty of different spaces to sit out or in
Very old fashioned shower and bad shower curtain did not match the standard of everything else.
Room was comfortable and whilst the bathroom was antiquated the room was charming with nice views. Breakfast excellent. Car Parking was reasonably close to the hotel
A table for dinner wasn’t available in the Garden Restaurant. The alternative Bear Garden Restaurant was not acceptable. Children running around, nappies being changed, a golf cart buggy ride to reach…not great in the rain! Access was through a coded gate which we weren’t give the code for, the return courtesy bus was 20 minutes wait. The restaurant was really there to service the camp site. Would we go again? Yes but only if a table at the Garden Restaurant was guaranteed

Wow what can I say, from start to finish what an amazing experience. Booking on booking.com I was nervous but we had immediate informative emails from port lympne, yes it was a little pricey but we had the most amazing special time which I don’t think we can replicate anywhere else unless we were to go on a real Safari. To see these endangered animals in such good spacious environments and to see them up so close as well as after day time closing it was magical. Highlights were the lowland gorillas, and hearing the lion and tiger roaring at night and being so close to them without a single car insight. The room and view from the hotel was beautiful and the staff all so polite and attentive. Never been anywhere where even all the young staff are so dedicated and polite, well done Port Lympne. Food was pricey but absolutely delicious. We were treated to complimentary Prosecco and mimosas for our 1st wedding anniversary and it was just all such a special and memorable experience thank you.
