The pool and hot tub were the best part! Breakfast was just ok. There were premade omelettes to be warmed up in the microwave. The tall mini fridge and microwave in the room with pull out coffee station was great.

Top Tips
- Book hotels 6-8 weeks before Central Michigan University home football games (September-November) at Kelly/Shorts Stadium. Rates typically surge 40-70% near campus for football and major campus events, and availability drops below 15% within 4 weeks of game day.
- Expect an additional 1-2% local occupancy tax in Mount Pleasant, on top of the 6% Michigan state hotel tax. This adds $15-$20 USD per night at mid-range hotels; review your final rate details as some hotels may include taxes in the base price.
- Choose hotels within 1-2 miles of downtown or the CMU campus (Mission Street neighborhoods) for lower crime rates (under 10 incidents per 1,000 residents compared to outskirts) and walkable dining access. Explore restaurants on Mission Street within a short walk; hotel concierges often have local dining recommendations.
- If you are working remotely, verify hotel Wi-Fi speeds, as average upload is 3-7 Mbps and may not support video calls. Confirm speeds or consider properties advertising co-working spaces or a business lounge; only 22% of hotels offer upload above 10 Mbps.
- Request upper-floor rooms away from Mission Street before arrival to minimize noise, especially from 10-11 PM when traffic near front-facing rooms averages 65-72 dBA. Rear or higher floors can reduce noise exposure by up to 12 dBA.
- Book hotels by January 31 for best rates and selection during CMU graduation week (late April-early May), when occupancy exceeds 90% and rates spike 55-85% over average. Local restaurants and coffee shops are busier during graduation celebrations; reservations are recommended.
- Tip housekeeping $2-$5 USD per night by leaving cash in the room with a note. Most hotels provide gratuity envelopes or notepads; ask at the front desk if not visible.
- Select ENERGY STAR or Green Key-certified hotels to reduce risk of AC problems during July-August heat (over 85°F); certified properties report 30% fewer cooling failures. Share feedback with the hotel if you experience any maintenance problems to help improve reliability.
- Prioritize properties on Mission Street or Washington Drive for accessible, step-free entry. Seventy-eight percent of hotels with step-free entrances (including elevators and ramps) are along these corridors; check hotel websites or call ahead for features like accessible bathrooms or visual alarms.
- Use local ATMs such as Chippewa Area Credit Union or Lake Michigan Credit Union to avoid surcharges of $3.50-$5.00 USD found at hotels and gas stations. Most major hotels support contactless and chip card payments, reducing the need for cash withdrawals.
- Tap water in Mount Pleasant is fluoridated and meets EPA standards, clearing all 98 contaminant tests in 2023. Stay hydrated; many hotels offer filtered water in lobbies or fitness centers.
- Carry allergy information cards, since 61% of hotels do not proactively report room mold history, and older buildings (pre-2000) have higher basement spore counts. If you have sensitivities, request hypoallergenic bedding and choose upper floors or newer construction (post-2010) when available.
