Pros +
- Very friendly obliging staff. Quiet. Historic and perfect spot for winter walks.
- Location and history
- Limited parking which may be problematic at busy times . It has a great location with an outdoor terrace and lawn stretching down to the river-Lovely in Summer! 5 Minutes walk to the town centre and all it offers. The staff were personable and helpful and the booking in was swift and easy. My room was in the main house and very comfortable. Breakfast was buffet style with the option of ordering eggs to your liking.
Cons -
- A bottle of water in the room would have been appreciated. A 10.00am room check out seems a little early but to be fair the staff allowed a little flexibility in this which was appreciated.
- seems heating in the room was not working?
- There was a pretty bad smell in my room, no 25, & on the corridor outside too. It did improve overnight as I had the windows open & fan on

breakfast is good, the riverside garden is very beautiful

I loved everything about it...staff, location, comfort, free parking etc.I was made to feel very welcome, staff so friendly

The room was clean on arrival. but no heating had been turned on prior to my arrival. Communications received in advance of my stay were excellent, timely and informative.
After the first night I placed my requst for the room to be serviced on the door and on my return at 11.00 pm the room had not been serviced! The quality of the Breakfast left a lot to be desired. Some of the items on the HOT buffet were cold the scrambled eggs were overcooked an lumpy, sausages were of poor quality and hard in texture, items were not being replenished as soon as they had run out. The overall quality was below my expectation given the previous reviews.
Room was nice and bed very comfortable.Hotel was located on the river with nice gardens.Food was well presented and tasty
Parking a little restricted
The grounds were beautiful, well kept, overlooking the River Thames. The historic buildings are well maintained.
Our room was comfortable, but a bit cramped. Fortunately, there was much to do in Abingdon, and we were close to Oxford, so we spent very little time in ourroom.
The grounds are beautiful. We were visiting friends from town with a flat too small to accommodate us, the staff was more than happy to open our bottle of wine for us, lend us glasses, and provide a water pitcher and glasses for us to sit out in the charming garden overlooking the river to spend time together. Everyone was so polite and generous.
Everything was lovely, the breakfast was filling but rather basic (we are vegetarian Americans so the traditional English breakfast isn’t very attractive to us but others seemed to love it.
Very comfortable. Great breakfast in lovely setting by the river.
This place I would describe as charming and cozy. Quaint. The room was small but very clean. Staff was friendly. Breakfast was solid and the breakfast room was beautiful.
Very small room. Small bathroom. But everything was functional. Definitely what I would call charming.
Decent breakfast. Great location. Beautiful views from the garden.
Fairly basic room and bathroom
Historic, elegant, great breakfast buffet.
Got a little warm in our upstairs room as the U.K. was having a heat wave.
Staff's kindness and flexibility: we were late arriving from walking the Thames Path and I called ahead and they told us when the kitchen closed, and kept a table for us and upgraded us to a room which was more secluded to let us sleep soundly. We appreciated their kindness.
If I'm being picky, it was a very hot weekend and they didn't have air conditioning. The fan in the room was heavy duty and a good stop gap.
The location was so convenient. The room was good for ts price with a pleasant view. However, I must say that the staff were wonderful. And oh, really sumptuous breakfast.
Clean. Good location. Stunning grounds. Good breakfast. Friendly staff.
Noisy air conditioning unit outside bedroom window which started early in the morning. Lack of hooks in bathroom and bedroom. Hot room.
We enjoyed the full English breakfast in the conservatory. The bed was very comfortable.
I managed the stairs in the split level bedroom but it was a struggle. You should have let us know about that beforehand.
Room was lovely with nice view. Breakfast superb looking out over the garden. The hotel was in a very pretty location and the grounds were gorgeous.
Basic and disappointing
Room was so basic and tiny for the price. No one to greet or say good bye to in reception. Very misleading photos- so disappointed
The staff and the location
No shelf or handrails in bathroom very tall baths hard to get out unaided.
