    Pros +

    • The bar area and restaurant was bus and warm, a great selection of drinks and good pub food. The outside space was great, especially in the summer months.
    • No breakfast available
    • Nice lunch, quiet except evening, good location

    Cons -

    • I stayed in room 6, which comes with a double and a single bed. However the single bed wasn’t made up, no mattress cover, just a woollen blanket which still exposed the mattress and also no duvet cover, so unhygienic and not as comfortable as I’d hoped. Also in the room there are some really bizarre black and white paintings, which made zero sense and made it feel a bit odd.
    • Heating, the bedroom had two heaters but they either didn’t work properly or they were not set properly, the room was cold.
    • Unexpected weird quirky style, huge beam a foot off the floor crossing the bedroom, quiz in the main bar all evening which we could hear every word, no breakfast. Nice atmosphere in main bar area but all a bit scruffy

Lovely place to stay - clean, friendly, nicely decorated, comfy bed, great food available at the bar, beautiful surrounding countryside, but also convenient for shops and the station. Attractive building with an interesting history.

Staff team and the size of the room - food was also amazing and a lovely pint of Guinness

The mattress was too soft and felt the springs - the room and establishment was excellent only the mattress was not as i would have liked

Very friendly. Very comfortable. The food in the pub was excellent.

No breakfast although there is a great deli in buckland the next village.

Responsiveness of pre stay queries and very friendly attentive staff lead by Marc who couldn’t have been better.

It is unfair perhaps to mention it was a bit noisy for us, as we had to be up for 3.00am for an early Gatwick flight. There were a couple of parties that our rooms were fairly close to. We couldn’t expect them to end by 9.00pm!

Wonderful find, Mark and his staff are exceptional hosts, couldn't do enough for us. We stayed on a Friday night ready for work nearby on the Saturday at the airport. Perfect location for what we wanted. The room was clean and tidy with everything we needed. We had dinner in the restaurant, originally ordered two steaks but Mark asked to us to choose something else as he thought the steaks weren't up to scratch and wouldn't serve them. Instead we had the pie & monkfish, both exceptional dishes.

    Nothing of note.

    Decor Bed

Poor sound insulation and neighbour TV noise through til midnight - and then snoring all night!! It sounds like they're in the same room - I had to end up banging on the wall and I had a terrible sleep.I actually upgraded for luxury and a bath!Food and menu - I was looking forward to a evening meal but menu was meat heavy with the only veg options being a vegetable burger (though the staff couldn't tell me what it was!) or a veg pastry. I ended up having a bowl of dry chips served with an empty ketchup bottle.I upgraded to the king with a bath, but no taps. The bath is a 1500 so smaller than it looks on the photos.I don't often leave bad reviews. This was meant to be a treat for me but ended up with disappointment and being very grumpy the next day.

The room was clean and large, super king comfortable bed. Excellent shower

Great 1 night stopover following a half marathon event at Denbies Vineyard. Clean and comfortable room.Food at the pub was excellent.Very good value.

Bathroom could do with an update and the shower pressure was a little weak. This was probably reflected in the price though which was very good value for money.

Spacious room, great staff and food was delicious

Bit dated nowhere to eat before noon

    8McquirePosted on: 8-6-2025

Great location, good size room, quirky decor (loved the timber dinosaur outside) - the food in the pub was absolutely delicious too!

Food was good in the restaurant and the place is dog friendly.

The room was poor standard, toilet didn't flush properly then took ages to fill. Shower was old and very weak and if toilet was filling up there was no pressure at all. I've used public toilets that had better standard of fittings and better toilet paper. Only got one towel each no hand towel. Walls and paintwork was scuffed. Hairdryer in room had a switch missing! Kettle was old and covered in limescale. All the electrical equipment which had PAT stickers were dated 2017. The room seemed clean but one coffee cup hadn't been cleaned. All in all it was pretty dreadful. The restaurant is quirky but chairs are broken, walls are stained, even the flowers in jar on table were half dead sitting in an inch of green scummy water. They keep it quite dark in the restaurant and i dont think its for the atmosphere! .Also they dont offer breakfast and when compared to prices of other places we have stayed locally before with a lot better accommodation its not competitively priced. The reviews sound good which is why we booked, all I can say is they couldn't of stayed in same room and the good food distracted them from a crumbling establishment that clearly needs some maintenance and upgrades.

Got downgraded to cheaper room and no reimbursement.

The attic room was stuffy, cobwebs and unclean.

    10CarlPosted on: 7-20-2025

Lovely rooms, lovely location and fantastic staffThe owner went out of his way to help us get ready for a wedding by making all our rooms available early.

    8BothaPosted on: 7-20-2025

The owner Mark and his staff were super welcoming. The pub and garden area were a magical welcome and we spent a good few hours enjoying the lovely facilities. The room was clean and had all the essentials. Thanks for providing a fan! The view over the cricket field from our room was fabulous.

Bathroom was perfectly clean and functional but could do with some modernising. But really nothing I didn't like.

Nice cosy room, good bed clean bathroomThe room is in the attic, Lots of beams and little steps - not a problem at all unless you are unstable on your feer

A bit warm in summer, under the attic

Comfortable bed. Pub has a lovely outside area.

Decor very dated and neither extractor nor light in bathroom were working.

    7GemmaPosted on: 7-7-2025

Lovely pub, beautiful location. Manager was very accommodating when he needed to change my room. Really quiet and just what i needed after a very long drive!

    There's never enough milk!!!
