    Pros +

    • The food in the restaurant was nice.
    • Arrived to a very friendly welcoming reception, rooms very spacious, clean and with everything you need to relax in. Very quite area perfect to switching off and has nice walks around. In driving distance of the Kelpies which are well worth a visit. The spa is brilliant, very clean and tidy with an area to relax in, good sized pool and steam room. Have in the past participated in spa treats which a worth the money. Very happy with the location and hotel. Would highly recommend if you need to recharge.
    • Room was nice, staff friendly, location great. The breakfast was decent.

    Cons -

    • The general areas of the hotel were nice. The rooms and facilities were dated and could do with upgrading. Beds were hard and uncomfortable.
    • The dinner was over priced and underwhelming. A Got a £40 ribeye. It came with half a tomato and half a mushroom (Yes half a mushroom but don't worry I found the other half at breakfast). The steak was ordinary.
    • The hotel rooms could do with an upgrade as they’re rather dated.

    A lovely, clean spa area.

    Staff curtesy and exceptional breakfast

Bar service as demand was high on small number of staff

Location was good and staff were friendly

Restaurant is over priced and the food quality is poor. Asked if I would like water for the table to find out it was £5 ! Normally water if charged is not offered pre menu. Steak was lukewarm and poor quality with lots of grizzle. Breakfast was just oil on a plate but at least it was hot. Rooms are clean but tired, linens have little holes in them and tile grout is cracked. Overall for the price I won’t return.

    The pool

The smell of paint in the room and sewage in the morning this was awful.I had to send back my steak to get cooked to medium twice

The hotel was a great location for our need. The facilities were great - kids loved having access to the pool. It was very busy on the Sunday morning so I couldn't access the sauna/steam room facilities as they were full on the 2 occasions I went to use them, so I can't comment on them. Changing rooms were clean.Hotel room was clean and well equipped. It is dated, however it was clean and comfortable. Hotel staff were friendly.

The hotel staff were friendly and approachable, however the service itself was not great. At dinner, our food arrived before our drinks - despite asking about our drinks on 2 occasions. Staff were very apologetic. And whilst friendly, we didn't find them to be attentive. At breakfast, we were shown to our table but then noone came to us to take an order for hot drinks or toast. It was difficult to find staff, and we had to approach them to ask where we could find these facilities. Again, very friendly and apologetic, just not attentive. When they returned with the coffee and toast, there was little room on the table. Staff then left without removing the used and empty plates. We then had to prompt staff to remove the empty plates so we had a little more room. It would have been good to have a fridge in the room.

Lovely friendly staff and management. Room always clean and charming. Dinner excellent. We keep coming back. as it a lovely atmosphere and very relaxing and de-stressing

Breakfast service slow and empty buffet items not always topped up. Coffee, tea and toast (one slice per person) needed to ordered several times is limited. Robes and towels for the spa missing from room. No slippers available at the spa.

Front desk helpers were exceptional. So professional and helpful they were. I was warmly welcomed on arrival and this treatment continued throughout my 4 night stay.

My room was a little tired, but had everything I needed.

    Stay was good apart from...

Glasses and towels in the bathroom where dirty and when tried to call reception no one answered

    9JanePosted on: 1-15-2026

Staff are exceptional, Megan on reception always uber helpful and always so happy! Everything is great. The only reason it didn’t get 10 out of 10 was the decor is slightly tired now.

    Decor a bit drab

A good sized pool with a hot steam bath and a sauna although this was not very hot. Staff were friendly, a big bar and dining area although we did not use these Very handy stopover on the way to Edinburgh Airport without having to go to an airport hotel.

A bit large for my taste but then we like to go small.
