About
Boasting a marina setting, the Ship and Trades is located in Chatham, 1.9 miles from Gillingham Train Station and offers free parking. The contemporary bar, restaurant and hotel overlooks one of the yacht basins at the former Royal Naval Dockyard. It has waterfront seating with views of the boats and views across the River Medway onwards to Upnor Castle. Visitors can also enjoy the view from inside the Ship and Trades’ wrap-around restaurant with floor-to-ceiling glazing overlooking the marina. The 15-bedroom hotel also has a comfortable lounge area and 2 cozy rooms. Its décor is inspired by its nautical heritage, as the structure was originally home to dockyard offices and an engineering shop in the late 19th century. A cinema and several shops are within a 10-minute walk away.

Great location, close to many restaurants, shops, dock yard, and cinema. Great bar and restaurant, outside seating was nice, chip shop in the same building with an amazing kebab. Lovely staff and free parking. Bedside power outlets. Delicious breakfast. My wife liked being 20 minutes from Bluewater shops.
The location was amazing and busy so before 11 it was a bit noisy but nothing terrible. My side of the bed had a lump in it.
The bedroom was clean, and comfortable, the passage to bedrooms, needed a deep clean, quite smelly, the staff not very helpful, except for the breakfast staff, whom were good.
Location, the staff, and the restaurant. All were excellent. Greater than our expectations.
The weather the first week in June. Hardly their fault. I
the staff were helpful and friendly. I wasn't happy with the twin room we were allotted and was upgraded to room 15.The room was very comfortable with a lovely view of the marina and St Mary's Island, it added so much to a pleasurable stay. The food was to our taste so we ended up eating in the restaurant every evening.A great location for walking to the Historic Dockyard, which was the main purpose of our trip.
Great food, great bed, lovely views over marina, nice walks nearby, quite quiet, cosy and warm
Curtains not very dark, shower medium pressure at best
The location. Great breakfast. Really comfortable bed and delightful room.
Great location, amazing views, nice staff, cosy. Bed was clean and comfy. Food was good and super nice dining by the water.
Room had a broken paper holder in the bathroom, broken curtains (they were held up with paperclips - literally paperclips someone used to try to fix), and a crazy bright green light in the corner ceiling. It was VERY bright from outdoor lights and ceiling light, I had to create some makeshift curtains from the bedspread and stick some stickers to the green light on the ceiling to sleep - otherwise impossible it was that bright. Wifi slow. Super view and cozy bed. Overall, hotel is rundown and not super clean. Hand prints on all glass doors, stains on all the carpets.
Proximity to Chatham Dockyard
Property was tired looking. Lift smells strongly of urine. Located immediately next to derelict site. Breakfast was not as described - no yoghurt, no berries and no pastries…….
Perfectly nice place to stay for a weekend. We went and did the distillery tour and this was a very easy place to stay for that. The staff were all lovely and breakfast was good. We tried to have dinner here Saturday night too but it was fully booked so do pre book if you want to do that! Room was nice and clean, bath was a bit worn but otherwise all good.
Room was really nice, clean and comfortable, the room included tea making facilities and a nice coffee machine with pods was a nice touch, also fresh milk you could top up at any time, nice size bathroom and overall plenty of room, we also stayed for breakfast, nice choice on the menu, I had tasty full English and my wife had salmon and eggs, there was also some continental breakfast as well. All together our stay was made better by the helpful and friendly staff
Good room and good breakfast. Staff very helpful when my husband was admitted to hospital
Nothing, except husband being ill.
Room was clean with a lovely view. Vegan breakfast was very good. Bed very comfortaable
unfortunately the noise from the outside area was a little disturbing but nothing the property could change about that - it stopped before it got too late.
Fantastic place to stay. Staff very welcoming. Lovely room with great layout and decor. Quiet and very comfortable bed. Breakfast was delicious. Great location next marina. Would definitely stay again
Central to where we wanted to be, great parking and fabulous breakfast
Room was very light
Lovely location. I chose it because it’s close to where I wanted to be the next day but would be great for a break away. Very comfy, friendly staff and great touches with the fresh milk in a flask.
Location, good food, comfortable room
Lovely place. Buzzing. Nice big room.
The shower was only tepid. We mentioned it so I'm sure they'll sort it.
