Cons -
- The rooms had a terrible smell, the TV in the room was not working, we complained and for the 3 days that we were there, no single attempt was made to see what was wrong with it from the management. The room was not cleaned throughout our stay in the hotel.
- Reception not manned, requested late check out wanted £20 an hour. But the room was only £58 a night so for 2pm check out booked another night instead. Had to unblock shower full of hair and gunk to prevent flooding. Kept being disturbed by housekeeping to empty bin or move car. Overall it was OK for a budget stay.
- The brake fast was not great. The sausages was salty. And there was no milk in the fridge for cereal.

Pleasant
No hot water, it was December! Flicked the switch to turn on but no hot water!
Close to Rochester.
We had a room with no functioning TV. No light covers on ceiling, toilet holder hanging off wall, broken drawer and staff very unhelpful. Explained to 2 members of staff about TV. One said there was nothing he could do and other just shrugged.
Breakfast was not included. The location is excellent, very close to the railway station, the town centre and not far from the bus station. The Sultan restaurant is worth the visit, good meals and friendly staff.
The room was rather small and the view limited.I stayed there last year in October and the price semed reasonable. This time it was considerably more expensive, which brings into question value for money. I may have to look for somewhere cheaper next time.TV channels were poor, the connection was faulty, some channels were unavailable.
Location perfect, price good, parking available, room comfortable and clean and warm
Reception not manned well, no reception on tv, cable seemed to be missing and no one available to report to. Main room light and mirror light in bathroom did not work, again no one to report to.
To be honest, we never got there. We were going to a funeral, but the car broke down. The only thing I can say about The Charles Hotel is, they need to learn to pick the telephone up. I tried 3 times to inform them that we would not be staying with them that night. They never picked up or replayed to my message. So on this one small detail, POOR.
Very clean, comfortable, nicely decorated and value for money
Was very impressed with your receptionist Mohammed, who was very kind and pleasant.
Breakfast not good at all... egg was overcooked and bacon impossible to eat!But the staff were nice and polite.
Rooms are modern and beds are comfortable.
Lacks small attention to detail and could do with re-decorating throughout. Bathroom needs attention to decorating. We had no TV signal , called receptionist staff to assist but couldn’t seem to get signal either. - was left very bored with no TV all night. Booked for breakfast in the morning and was rudely awoken at 9:00am with someone knocking saying we was ‘late for breakfast’.
We got upgraded to a better room at no extra cost. Staff were amazing. And the restaurant was excellent
The hotel is a budget hotel and was what we expected. The room as a very comfy double room. The bed was lovely and gave us a good night sleep. The hotel location was excellent for our purpose. We even had parking for our car. The onsite restaurant was amazing and they catered for our allergies fantastic.
The smell of the carpets on the stairs. Could be cleaner.
Not alot to the honest was a last minute booking and hotels in the same area were probably £10 more expensive and I wish I'd paid that
Booked a double room says in description with a sofa and around 17ft etc. The room was nothing like the pictures. I was a tiny box room which had a double bed and small table with a kettle,a plug in fire next to a clothes rail with 2 coat hangers. I'm glad the booking was only for one night it looked like a run down old box bedroom. Not a luxury room as the pivtures make you belive.
Absolutely love staying here, the staff always go above and beyond. The food is amazing and at discounted price if you're staying here so its a win win. Overall very happy with our stay
There is nothing we don't like about it
CheapComfy bed
Reception closed between 11 and 7 am and no one on duty at 8am .. the amount of extra buttons to get hot water , heat in bathroom and heat in roomHeater didn’t work in bedroom
A clean room everything needed for a short stay. Close to the Chatham train station.
Not the hotels fault but it is on a very busy road.
Nothing but amazing the staff were brilliant, helped with anything we needed even when it come to booking a taxi Mohamed booked us an Uber as all other taxis were busy! The restaurant was the best indian we’ve ever had. We even had to book another night and they did everything they could to ensure they had a room available for us putting us in a delux roomWould definitely recommend it and will be staying here when we visit again in the future
Everything was fantastic no complaints what so ever!!
The double room was a good size, clean and comfortable. The towels and bedding also clean and the (memory foam) mattress was extremely comfortable. TV, coffee and tea making facilities, pedestal fan were available as well as heating. The shower room modern and clean, albeit compact. Hairdryer and iron available on request.
Upon parking at the back of the hotel, the signage for Reception led me up a steep metal spiral staircase. Having reached the top and upon entering Reception I discovered there was a front door leading to the street which I could walk around to get back to my car.
The hotel was located five minutes from the town centre (walking), theatre and restaurants and pubs all in the same area. There are local taxis companies at very good affordable prices. The breakfast was an English hot and affordable at £7.99pp all you could drink (tea/coffee). Nothing was too much trouble and we had 10%off the restaurant next door. The room was clean spacious and had all we needed. No hair dryer but just had to ask for it and it was available. Very Happy Time on a very sad couple of days.
