Pros +
- Exceptional from the moment I arrived. Rebecca was professional and efficient. The young gentleman, who was a jack of all trades, brought my luggage to the room and greeted me most days at breakfast. The breakfast was fantastic. Most of all, the view was incredible! Ate dinner there as well and the presentation and taste of the food was exceptional. The cleaning staff kept the room in perfect condition. Sam was most helpful with information about the area and someone whom you just enjoyed talking to. This will be my go-to place when I am in the area again.
- Ours was a one night stop and we were delighted with everything. Wonderful view over the whole of St Austell bay.
- Breakfast was very good.
Cons -
- Nothing that comes to mind.
- Most of the staff were lovely....but not all. One man (possibly the owner) was really quite rude.Room was pretty tired.
- The room was quite chilly and not very homely due to its large size. Also the door into the ensuite was very noisy. our bed was quite hard and we could have done with a duvet

The view of the bay was very good, as was the breakfast.

Staff are friendly and helpful in particular Sam who was really great. The location is stunning and great views from the garden bar and dinning room. It is a 10/15 min walk down to town/harbour of Charlestown via a fairly steep stepped path but it is a good 30 min walk back up via the road if dark as the path is not lit at night.
To be honest I think this hotel is over priced. The staff were really lovely and sorted out a room issue we had due to noise from other guests...but the first room we were given was very tired, small and run down, we were moved for our 2nd night to a much larger room which was in much better condition and had a sea view and worth what we paid.
good choice of cooked breakfasts, in room overlooking bay. Bar and gardens overlooking sea with afternoon sun. Short walk or drive from many restaurants and supermarkets
Shower flow was pathetic and shower drain was almost blocked.
It was situated in a lovely area. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. Plenty of parking outside for your car. The hotel was easy to find on our arrival. Lovely views from the front of the building and in the restaurant.
The room we stayed in could have been a bit more updated with furnishings and some of the areas in our room could have been a bit better with cleanliness over the weekend. Plus the pillows could have been a bit softer to sleep on. Otherwise the room wasn't too bad.
Liked the idea, but it in no way measured up to the marketing.
The manager was boorish and essentially blessed us out for a problem with his toilet. We would have left the first night, but had no car and no idea where to go. We left a day early and didn't try to get them to refund our unused night. Other staff members were fine, but the owner/manager was such a disagreeable person, our entire stay was uncomfortable.
Excellent breakfast though didn't have glutton free bread the first morning. Limited Sunday evening menu due to Chefs day off. Choice limited with a good selection but not keen on pizzas or salads.Staff excellent friendly and helpful.Lovely building and gardens to use if weather had been kinder!
There was a distinct musty smell in the whole area where my bedroom was. No signs of dampness but better ventilation would greatly improve the situation.
Lovely staff, clean and spacious rooms, very tasty breakfast, simply stunning views
Tv was a bit small and room decor was a bit dated
The location was wonderful, easy to reach many other locations. Our room had a spectacular view and was large and extremely comfortable. A very good menu, well cooked beautifully presented food. A lovely garden and a comfortable, well stocked bar. We could choose where to have dinner, ie in the bar, garden or formal dining room.
To be picky, a larger smart television would have been good, and a walk in shower would have been preferable, but that is down to our preference.
breakfast and view from one room
rooms were far apartthe room at the rear of the hotel was small and dated
The staff were all very friendly, helpful with enquiries and accommodating when I asked for specific things. The bed was really comfortable and the room was sufficient for what I needed. The bar, restaurant and conservatory areas were kept very clean and were great for sitting and relaxing but also had the most amazing views! Food at the restaurant was very good, well cooked and tasted great. The hotel is right on the coastal path so meant I could take short breaks and walk along the coast without having to drive anywhere or take hours and hours out of my day.
Some areas of the room were a little rough around the edges and needed maintenance, such as a leaking pipe on the towel rail. The windows felt a bit dated and didn't seal well, which meant my room got a bit chilly and so I had to make use of an extra blanket, even though the weather had been warm. Shame they have the rule not to allow take-away food at the hotel as that would have given more food options, but I understand why they chose to do this. The food options at the restaurant are a little limited and, for me, pricey. It would be great to have more meal options around the £12-15 price, than all being £17 - £28. Maybe even some more 'lunchy' options like baguettes for people who have already had a main meal during the day and want to buy something a bit smaller at the restaurant.
Great location. get the sea views ‘ staff welcoming . Great walk in shower . .
Nothing really . Tv a bit small .
The views from all front rooms were amazing and luckily we had a couple of sunny days which really was a bonus. There is a fair amount of outdoor seating to take advantage of sea views The staff were all friendly and helpful and worked really hard to make sure all guests had everything they needed There is a massive amount of spaces in the car park to the side of hotel
I feel it’s best to have a couple of days stay here at least, the first impression is that the hotel is stuck in a couple of decades in the past but by the second day somehow this all becomes charming Bring your own toiletries it’s just basic shower gel and shampoo it also helps to have your own hairdryer
Staff excellent, helpful & cheerful. Room with sea view exceeded expectations.
Breakfast a bit uninspiring.
Location and views a small friendly hotel
Some decor was worn and the bath room was I. Need of a refresh
The view was something that money could not buy and we were lucky enough to be there on a very warm Friday in April. The SWCP is opposite the entrance of the hotel and we walked to Duporth, Porthpean and Charlestown on the first day and Carlyon Bay, Par Sands and Par on the second. The staff (they're weren't many) were so helpful and worked so hard. Special mention for the young lady on reception (didn't get her name but she's studying Law) who not only checked us in, served us breakfast and drinks but also cleaned the rooms! She was so welcoming and helpful and also to the young man with the beard who was working on the bar and serving evening meals and breakfast ...again very pleasant and helpful. Think their Manager got lucky when he employed both of them!
The hotel bedroom was slightly dated and mattress very hard (but we're used to a soft bed) but didn't spoil the visit and the room and bedding was spotlessly clean..
Lady who served breakfast was amazing and friendly Very small tv
Wonderful hotel. Lovely owner. Staff very friendly. Clean and comfortable Evening meal, and breakfast very good. Lovely setting. We would recommend ? great value!
