Pros +
- EVERYTHING was just wonderful, room with a view of the sea, comfy bed, everything very clean, just perfect and the food superb
- great hotel, lovely feel, helpful staff, very special location, great spa, food good value and excellent standard.
- I am glad I did not see some of the negative reviews of this hotel before I booked or I might have missed out on a nice stay. I guess people have different expectations. This is a historic hotel and has all the charm and imperfections that come with that (like a squeak in the floor, or the fan on the roof). This is not the cookie cutter perfection of a hotel chain like a Hyatt Regency or a JW Marriott. It reminds me a little of parts of the Hotel Del Coronado (at least 20 years ago when I was there). I am not sure what era the current decor style dates to (70s?), but this type of vintage hotel feel is getting harder and harder to find. A special place, and I am grateful they offered a booking at a great price. Nice walking trail along the coast down to Charlestown as well.
Cons -
- Nothing, How do you improve on perfect?
- we chose a small room and we were not surprised to find it a bit too small
- Normally when I book on Booking.com there is an automated welcome message from the property. There was no communication from the hotel, and I wondered if I had a legitimate booking. I did not have a way to call, but I showed up and everything was fine!

Location is outstanding with incredible ocean views. This is an exceptional hotel. Played golf on the property. The course is very well maintained and free for guests booking directly. .Breakfast was delicious with a wide variety of food. The restaurants are gorgeous.
Rooms seemed a little cold ( late October)
Everything was terrific, indoor pool , outside heated pool, bars, dining rooms were terrific too.
Comfortable clean room with garden views
Noise of the extraction fans outside.
Lovely view, excellent food, good spa.
Gorgeous hotel - privately owned - great facilities Loved the spa and outdoor heated pool !!Food was excellent Staff excellent Room lovely and spacious
Location was ok.
No air conditioning/ heating/temperature control. No ‘fridge. Room very old fashioned. View of car park. When you are paying £380 per night you expect something special which we didn’t get.
The service and quality of food and drinks. The location
Curtains in room dirty at bottom and steam room dated making it look soiled
This is one of the best hotel I have saty in the UK so far, the location it's great with a lot of things to do around and visit, with a beautiful vew from some of the rooms, in my own experience the room I stayed had a balcony where I enjoyed evey morning watching the sea and garden it was fabulous and relaxing. The staff were really friendly and helpful really kind and always asking if I needed anythings eals (they were 10 out of 10!) I can't remember the name of the guy and girl who attended me but they were excellent! wich make me go back and stay there again. great choices of food in they menus I really enjoyed my English breakfast evey morning haha. Facilities spa was great, I could still enjoy the sound of the piano in the evening from my room which I think I stay above really enjoyed it (for some people might be louder but not for me). I 100% recommend this hotel. No complain.
Comfortable, good facilities, good quality food
Had to wait for toast at breakfast too long. Small children in restaurant who were noisy.
Fabulous setting, well maintained pools and spa facilities. Excellent food. We loved the complimentary golf. All staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful.
Stunning location. Reception staff excellent.Hotel itself dated. Spa facilities were very poor. Tiny pool, steam room and sauna.Service at breakfast was below par - slow to take order, slow to remove plates. It wasn’t even busy.
All was lovely
Everything, food, spa. Staff where amazing
Communal areas were lovely staff were amazing
update rooms as they were a little old fashioned and needed a bit of a spruce up
The room was fantastic with a full sea view, very well appointed, decorated to a very high standard for a standard room. The restaurant food was exceptional for taste and quality. Spa was very good too.
Nothing not to like.
It’s luxury feel and the location was very nice overlooking the sea
The room got hot but was ok when the window was open also no fridge in the room
Most of the staff were very kind and polite and helpful. Our first room had issues, but afer they changed our room, we had a great night sleep.
The food was very delicious but for unknown reason, I was very sick around four am, my daughter called the receptionist, he said call the ambulance yourself. No one attended to our room to check on us, for a hotel of this state, this was not acceptable. The shower in both rooms was not very good.I also saw, how the cleaners washed the glasses and mugs in a small room, next to the lifts. Very disgusting. I had to wash all the mugs in our room, before use.
Wonderful food, very attentive staff, fabulous spa.
