Pros +
- Chequers is in a beautiful rural setting with stunning walks on the doorstep and well located for the town centre, my wife and I stayed in the double room with four poster bed was a very comfortable and charming beamed room with the most stunning view of the countryside to wake up to.The fabulous freshly cooked breakfast was served in the lovely conservatory overlooking the garden, the couple who own the hotel were friendly and welcoming, we will definately return to this wonderful place in the future.
- The breakfast selection was very good. The staff very pleasant and helpful.
- Great choices for breakfast and quality ingredients too. We loved the interior design and the fact that you could buy items around the house and room. Great idea! Lovely Owners, very welcoming.
Cons -
- Nothing can think of.
- Room was small. There was no wardrobe/closet, we had hooks on the wall to hang clothes. There were no draws, so we had to live out of our travel bags. the only chairs were two upright dinning style chairs on which we put our bags, so no were to sit other than on the bed. The shower room had a shower in the bath, less able persons would have found it difficult. The toilet was squeezed between the shower screen and the wall with the toilet role holder pressed into your side.
- There was nothing we didn’t like.

Staff were amazing, place comfy
Dated rooms and overgrown garden, would have been amazing in it's day.
Ideal location, wonderful breakfast. Very clean & comfortable.
Would have been nice to have access to the bar & lounge
This beautiful eclectic hotel is extremely welcoming just perfect for a country getaway. The staff are fantastic the rooms are snug but big enough and everything worked. The breakfast was superb.
The breakfasts were excellent; the proprietors were very friendly and hospitable.
The light above the bathroom mirror wasn't very bright. Shame that they don't provide meals other than breakfast although I do understand why.
Breakfast poor. Toast like cardboard and eggs revolting. Dining room light and airy .
Pretty shabby throughout although we asked for just a standard room it really was just above basic. Could do with some good maintenance! Travel Lodge win hands down for excellent basic accommodation. Unable to comment on superior rooms.
A little gem! So friendly and cosy, lovely clean room and an excellent breakfast. Would absolutely recommend!
Excellent breakfast- really tasty and freshly cooked. Ambience created by vintage artefacts delightful. Lovely owners. Small, pretty garden. Beautiful view across the lane
So minor, but no shelf for toiletries in the bathroom
A lovely B & B in a glorious setting in the countryside. The host and all staff were very pleasant. The breakfast buffet was plentiful, fresh and very filling.
Friendly staff and very comfortable beds and the room was spacious.
It was a nice get away to the country side, room was functional and made best use of the space that was available. We had a "road side" room and needed window open so traffic noise was distracting when trying to sleep.
I didn't experience anything during my stay which would make me feel the need to say I didn't like this or that. A minor but perhaps more personal point I just found the pillows a bit hard and prefer feather filling as opposed to foam or other padding.
The breakfast was delicious food. A choice of hot freshly cooked food. Also available was cereal. Fruit.yogurtJuices and hot drinks
All was very accommodating
Lovely little hotel very welcoming. On arrival I asked if they had a bar although no bar to sit at you can order drinks and they will bring to your room. Room was spacious beutiful decor and clean large comfy bed. We came for 2 nights as we were attending a wedding.Breakfast was delicious freshly cooked to order.
Fantastic breakfast, good room, lovely hosts (very helpful when I needed to iron a shawl for a wedding - thank you!)
The room was fine and the breakfast was good and in.a nice conservatory. It's an easy 10 minutes walk from the station.
The host isn't very helpful. He should have shown us how the shower worked and we were very disappointed not to be able to leave our luggage at the hotel to pick up later in the day as we were using public transport.
Great, friendly staff. Breakfast was excellent, tea & coffee facilities in room. Very comfy bed, great sleep. Lovely garden.Family vibe was nice.
Room & bathroom were a bit tired and could do with updating/refreshing! Hot water took forever to come through to shower. Position of hotel next to roadworks (looked permanent) meant that you could not walk down to the local high street.
Large room. Excellent breakfast. Friendly staff
Interesting old building. Good location for station. Friendly staff. Excellent home cooked breakfast with plenty of choice. A powerful rain shower though over the bath in our room.
We hadn’t realised beforehand that we couldn’t store our suitcase after 11am checkout. The hotel reception is not staffed all day.
