Gorgeous, festive hotel with a welcoming, friendly and accommodating team.
Menu options for dietary requirements were a little restricted, otherwise the 9 would have been a 10.
Generous Good quality local products Interesting choices
Size of the bed
Large clean comfy rooms, amazing food and staff were lovely, great location, very pretty will definitely return
The dog friendly dinning room tables were rather low and uncomfortable, we had to sit and eat breakfast and dinner at these. No EV charging points
Location of property was lovely, we thoroughly enjoyed the restaurant and Christmas market was a bonus! The staff were extremely helpful and friendly, the size of the room was very good.
The shower didn’t work in our room, which was unfortunate and an inconvenience. The coffee machine in our room and some form of dirt stuck in the water section of the machine. Finally, the bed was extremely noisy when getting on the bed which was more of an inconvenience for rooms around us.
Excellent food, lovely staff, reasonably dog friendly,
I do feel the need to comment on a couple of real issues for us that would probably mean we would not book again or indeed recommend other dog owners to visit.Hotel stated as dog friendly, which in the main it is, BUT if travelling with a dog you are not permitted to leave your dog in the room while dining, which means you have to eat in the Olive Lounge or leave your dog in your car. We actually chose to dine in the Olive Lounge believing it to be set up to accommodate 18 diners at tables and chairs, as your web site describes an 18 cover seating area for those eating with their pets. Sadly, in reality it is not laid out for proper dining but 2 double sofas and a long communal table for 12. This area also doubles as a very small hotel lounge (there is no other lounge space for residents), so on the second evening we were sitting with people working at their PC's, while we dined, which somewhat spoiled the atmosphere, celebrating my partner's birthday with such lovely food.In addition, trust me, it is not much fun eating our food on low sofas bending over to get to our meal. When pointed out to the hotel at end of stay, in connunction with all the praise of excellemnt food and staff, I received a rather snooty and unhelpful response which soured the whole experinece, so if travvfeling with your pet do investigate further.
Quiet, lovely location.Easy parking.Coffee maker in roomLovely restaurantGreat breakfast
Small double room but very comfortable and warm. We liked how clean it was. Lovely Molton Brown toiletries.
No towel rail in the bathroom for hanging up the bath sheets. Breakfast service was really slow at times.
Lovely room, comfortable bed, towels nice and softStaff friendly and ready to help. Lovely restaurant food very nice. L
It would have been nice to have better bike storage maybe a shed instead of just at the back of the kitchen. The porridge for breakfast was a bit like cardboard but everything else was lovely.
Very friendly and helpful staff, nice room, good location, and a tasty breakfast in the morning!
Free WiFi didn't work, I mentioned it to the receptionist.
Comfy room with lovely view. Phone charger points in lamps. All exceptionally clean. Dinner and breakfast food was excellent. All staff young, friendly and very helpful.
No draft ale but I do understand that, as a small hotel, they can't sell enough beer to make it viable. Wines were a bit more expensive than we would have liked. Room was rather compact, if staying longer than a couple of nights should ask for a larger room with more storage.
Comfortable,clean and friendly staff Food
Well located to where I needed to travel to, comfortable rooms and good facilities.
Thought restaurant was very expensive and not very varied
The location
We requested and extra bed that came with a reasonably extra charge but when we arrived in the room was not extra bed and when we made them aware they bring us a mattrass and they put in the floor with no base just like in a camping. The power of the shower miserable...Also we requested an early breakfast because we had an appointment at 9am but they ensured us that they could bring the breakfast at 8am on dot, so we came down by 8am and guess what? nothing was ready, we had to wait for everything and we ended up being late at our experience (the fruit platter was embarrassing, we had white watermelon... shocking).
Great location with great walks. The food, both for dinner and breakfast were outstanding, loved the local food and drinks. Staff were very engaging and welcoming from the moment we walked in. The mattress to the bed was lovely and soft. Nice size room. Great value for money. Love the history of the building and the rooms named after people with links to the building or local area. We will be visiting again.
The pillows could have been better. We could hear noise very clearly from the bar downstairs until around 10pm and then in the morning when people arrived, we wasn't too bothered but some might be. We would book a room further into the hotel next time. An addition of local biscuits or snacks to the room would be welcome.
Comfortable hotel - a little remote, but with an extremely popular restaurant serving lunches, afternoon teas and dinners. Full meals and bar meals may be eaten in the Olive Lounge, although the tables are a bit low for the former. Staff were very attentive at dinner - a pricy menu, but tasty. The breakfast menu was extensive and also tasty; coffee is served by the cup from the adjacent bar. Dog friendly with plenty of grass around the hotel and signposted footpaths just beyond the extensive car park; there was also a jar of dog treats at the reception desk.
There was nothing discretionary about the “Discretionary 12.5% Service Charge will be added to your bill” … it was simply added to our bill; something to bear in mind, perhaps, when choosing food.
Large rooms, nice location and comfortable
Cost of the food but mainly drinks were very expensive. But all very nice
Beautiful country views. Friendly helpful staff. Room nice a cosy with a comfortable bed. Good bath & shower with plenty of hot water. Tasty breakfast.
