Pros +
- The location was great as it was near to the racecourse and easy to find. The Staff were very pleasant and friendly and couldnt do enough to help myself and my Friend. The room was spacious, bed comfortable and food was very good also, everything that was needed for a weekend away racing.
- - The bed was comfortable
- Room 11. Smelt of sewerage since we got there. Top floor and disabled. Nice. No cider at all or fosters even though St. Ledger races were on and also Donny Rovers won and got promoted. Disabled car park spaces taken up up by white van men. Smashed windows and taped up with sellotape. Mens toilet in the bar area...had to go to bar toilet as this floor we were on was a 'joint' toilet had piss on the seat. The bar toilet hadNo locks on the toilet door at all. And you have to squeeze in tight to shut the door behind you. No good for bigger people (or disabled). Went through the door from the bar to the stairs and an oven was on the floor directly behind the entrance door. Plus boxes all down the hallway. Safety and fire hazard. Up two flights of stairs and wall paper hanging off the ceiling... Our room (11) on 3rd floor and knackered, was in serious need of decorating, new or even second hand furniture would make it nice. Could not plug the kettle in from the tiny shelf you have in your room. Again, disabled... So had to put the kettle on the floor to boil it. Next day... Could not wait to drive 150 miles home for a shower, wash all our smelling clothes, and put this experience behind us. Honestly. I almost slept in the car. Even sleeping rough on the streets would not be so nauseating. -8/10. Even 0/10 is top marks. Disgusting. Never again and needs serious looking at.
Cons -
- - The outside looked run down due to several smashed windows The inside looked run down, with paint peeling off the walls/ceiling- The staff weren't friendly & didn't explain how we'd have to get back into the building later that evening (we got back at 11:30pm to the pub locked up)- Our room backed onto a room that wasn't for guests & the male inside appeared to be playing on-line games/talking to someone very loudly well after midnight
- Nothing at all. Disgusting, unsafe, smelt so bad, health. Safety and fire escape issues. Unpleasant to look at let alone try and sleep in. No good at a for disabled people like me. -8/10.
- Operationally the hotel is unable to change a lightbulb (there were a lot of blown bulbs) or unblock a sink. Our room smelt of sewers and lacked shelving in the bathroom. Also the staff had been instructed to play happy hardcore in the bar underneath our rooms all day long at blistering volumes whether there was anyone there or not. When there were people there they were mostly snorting coke in the toilets. Over our stay I began to worry if there was anyone staying with the guests overnight (i'm guessing not based on what happened the last night) and even if the fire alarm was functioning. On our last night someone smahsed all the ground floor windows with a baseball bat which obviously woke me up and of course there were no staff to do anything. If you're looking for a nice place to stay this isn't it

Staff were lovely

Stay here a lot staff always great you get what you get rooms are nice convenient and comfortable will be back again again when in the area
It’s an old hotel but barely unlikeable
The Staff were really nice and helpful and the location was perfect for me. Housekeeping was great and the place was clean.
Was a perfect 3* Could have done with a bedside lamp by each bed but aside from that all was good.
Pub looks lovely outside completely different when you go through to the back paint off the roof on the first floor hair all over the sink wallpaper hanging off the walls got photo's Wifi didn't work. I asked in the bar, then was told there's nothing they could do about it. This place needs closing down. I wouldn't recommend this place at all
The beds were broken, the bathroom disgusting. I hurt myself on the broken towel holder in the bathroom. No food available. Pubic hairs on the toilet seat and holes in the walls.
The price was fair.
It wasnt clear on Booking.Com that this is a pub, not a hotel. The welcome was frosty upon arrival. The accomodation is very run down and basic, but clean enough.
Lovely big pub with a pool table & dart boards, staff were great so friendly & the price was amazing value, breakfast was the best & near to the race course
Location was good. Friendly helpful staff.
The room would benefit from redecoration and there was still signs of mould on the ceiling in the bathroom that had been painted over. Nowhere to hang clothes and no desk or chair in room. Breakfast was advertised however in the morning the kitchen was closed and no staff were available.
Not a lot
Room had peeling wallpaper on both ceiling & walls, there was no hot water coming out of the tap, the shower was electric but the pressure was dreadfully slow. No light bulb in light over mirror, no table lamps and light switch was over near the door, so had to return to bed in the dark.. huge holes in skirting boards where pipes had been removed.
Staff were very helpful and accommodating allowing a late check in due to travel constraints. Thankyou.
Location was good. The pub seemed decent although I couldn't spend much time there. TV and tea / coffee facilities although no spoon to stir it with
The plumbing made random noises through the night !
It was local to where I needed to be. Bed was comfortable.
The shared bathroom was very run down. Shower curtain pole had fallen down and was just lying in the bath, so was unusable.
The location
Sub standard. No breakfast available despite breakfast advertised as available on your site and on paperwork in room. Basic bathroom, nowhere to put toiletries.Bed had no mattress protection and mattress had large stains on it. Unfortunately we didn't check the mattress until we were leaving, had we noticed it when we arrived we would have walked out. There were signs in the hotel stating we could only eat food from the hotel on the premises, but when we asked for food we were advised to buy something elsewhere and bring it back to the hotel. There was no table to sit at and only one chair in a double room .The stair and hallway carpets were filthy, I thought they were worn but it was just dirt!
Clean, comfortable rooms. Nice pub with a really nice breakfast
Bathroom needs new shower headsNeeds updated fixtures
Night before v day had a blast close to shimala restaurant staff were great staying again 2/4 for a theatre trip love it here perfect for us bars friendly to
Not a lot
The location was ok but hard to find with Google maps
Mess in room, cleaners did not clean the room properly due to there being rubbish left in one of the draws
Lovely spacious room, lovely & clean, good selection of tea/coffee etc. good parking
I was next to the extractor fan which was switched in around 7am which was quite annoying as I had a late night but that was the only fault
