About
The Union Hotel is in the center of Penzance. A 5-minute walk from the sea, the 17th-century building houses Hamilton’s Restaurant and also Nelson’s Bar, where there is free WiFi. Rooms at The Union Hotel retain their traditional style, many have excellent sea views of Mount's Bay, and most are en suite. All are centrally heated and have a TV, a radio and tea and coffee facilities. A full English breakfast is served in the theater bar, visited by Charles Dickens when he stayed at the hotel. The restaurant serves homemade dishes using produce from the local area. Guests can enjoy live music at the weekends in the on-site bar. Penzance has an array of restaurants offering Cornish cuisine as well as globally influenced menus. The town’s cinema and theater are a 2-minute walk from the hotel, with a selection of bars and coffee shops even closer.

- Great location
Cons -
- No lift, very winding stairs, shower did not work second day, noisy at night from restaurant
- The roofs of the hotels were smothered in seagulls.all day and most of the night.their screeching kept half the guests awake. Didn't bother me,but some people may find this annoying.its not the hotel s fault, just nature
- The man at the front desk was extremely unpleasant from start to end. I had to deal with him several times during my two night stay and each time he was extremely grumpy and unpleasant and snapped back at me at just about every question I asked.

Comfortable, crisp soft sheets, very long tub.
Vanity table blocked ‘sea view’.
It was warm cosy and welcoming Lovely hot water in the room and good breakfast Lovely communal areas and fascinating paintings/history
The room (we requested a sea view) was tiny for two people and luggage and there were some basics missing - for example no towel rail, no bath mat, only one sink plug headboards stained and tatty, decor generally scruffy in room However the communal areas and corridors were all beautifully decorated and all radiators on all 3 floors were on!!(I think we were the only guests) So all good except the room itself!
The room was beyond expectations, beautiful elegant room, warm throughout stay, very comfortable beds. Towels and toiletries provided. There was also a coffee/tea station with ample amount of coffee and tea provided, and even a small refridgerator. It was so comfortable I would have liked to have stayed an extra day, just to relax and read a book. The hotel is close to the centre of town, but also close to the theatre (reason for our stay). There are pubs and restaurants in the same street so everything available closeby for an evening out experience. Full breakfast provided/included. We live in a local village but staying in the hotel is not only a treat, it takes the hassle out of trying to get home at night now that the bus service is not so reliable back to the village during the evening.
The tea provided with the breakfast was too strong to drink, an extra jug of hot water would have been useful to dilute it. At the same time I could have asked for extra hot water, but did not.
This hotel is very convenient, an old historic property. It has a very attractive bar which was busy when we arrived. We had a nice breakfast the first day in the Theatre Bar, a nice historic room.
Our room was comfortable, certainly no stinting on the heating as we had to turn off the radiator and open the windows. The mattress needs updating, as did the old pillows, but perfectly ok. The shower was a problem as it was erratic with the hot water, which would stop and very cold water coming out. The sink had reliable hot water. The second day, the Sunday, nobody showed up to open the breakfast room - we called the hotel, we could hear the phone ringing in the bar and the reception but nobody answered. By the time we checked out, nobody had opened up so we left the key at reception.
Good location for central Penzance. Good heating.
The hotel felt very dated, rain leaking by the bar, tired decor, everything creaked everytime you moved, pipes made noises when water was run, so we couldn't relax and you could hear everybody talking as they walked past.Breakfast was included, you preordered via a breakfast slip the night before but in the morning there was no staff in the breakfast room and it took 5 mins of calling to find someone. We had to ask for coffee, salt, sauces, felt disorganised & not worth £125 a night.
It was convenient location
Although booked, no one was there to receive us in the night. Apparently we dint know it was shut during chirstmas.
The location was superb , staff in the bar excellent,, unfortunately when we went for breakfast on Sunday morning the hotel was locked up and no sign of life what so ever
Lovely place, staff were really good, very clean and surprisingly big with a lot of history behind the walls! Certainly will be staying there again!
It was clean and tidy and warm and cosy
Considering we were the only occupants the breakfast was over cooked and dry poaching eggs over done and toast undercooked
Location
The Dated Room, the mattress was shot to pieces, most springs gone on 1 side so bed was on a slope, plywood under it!!!
Staff were very helpful.Nice pint in the bar.Room was clean and bed was comfortable.
Nothing negative to mention.
A beautiful historic building with a lot of original features, staff were great very polite and friendly. A very good breakfast and live music in the bar in the evening was good. Our room wasn't huge but the bed was comfortable. It is right in the town centre wich suited our needs and parking on site was a bonus.
It could do with a lick of paint and general updating.
Nice staff. Relaxed and genuine Cornish. Good atmosphere in the breakfast room and the bar, not least wt. free live music Saturday. The Nelson lounge is adoring and steeped in history (Although, as a Dane I am not unconditionally happy for Lord Nelson ;)
The carpets in the corridors are battered and rather dirty. Anyway, why having carpets in the common areas of a hotel? The left side of the queen bed in room 12 is falling apart. Worked OK to sleep on the right side and the room has a stunning view of the sea.
late check in was possible, and they were kind enough to arrange that due to delays to our train journey from London
The bathroom was not as clean as expected, the fire alarm went off in the middle of the night and there was no one to tend to. Breakfast was offered, but was a buffet that was not restocked in time despite there being very few guests at the time.
Friendly staff in the bar and a lovely breakfast
Rooms where not very clean, there was bags of rubbish left on the landing for the 3 days that we stayed at the hotel and that rubbish stated to smell.
Location and history. Good breakfast b
We did not know at the time of booking that there would be live music below our rooms until 11.15pm
The building is impressive and historical. The staff were very friendly and the breakfast was great. There was a great band playing in the bar in the evening. Beds were comfy
It was incredibly noisy outside
