About

A few minutes' walk from Richmond town center and rail/Tube stations, the cozy, popular Red Cow is a restored inn offering home-cooked bar food and comfortable accommodations. The Red Cow has a history that dates back to the early 19th century. Although recently refurbished, many of the original features, including wonderful glassworks, have been retained. Richmond Station has frequent rail services to Central London, and the Tube station is connected to the District Line and London Overground Line. Pros +

    • The staff were very friendly and welcoming, I stayed there alone so I appreciated this a lot. Also the food was amazing. The room was much better quality than I was expecting for being above a pub as well.
    • The Red Cow is in a great location, good food and drink and a friendly and helpful staff. Definitely would book again.
    • The room was beautifully furnished and perfect for two single travelers. The location was excellent for all of the exploring we wanted to do around Richmond and we even got to experience a few of the unique holiday events happening around town.

    Cons -

    • No, everything was how I had hoped.
    • Would like to have known in advance that the pub was located directly under the rooms and that there would be quite a bit of noise (loud music, crowds cheering the rugby match, etc.) going well into the night. We had ear plugs, which were helpful, but the vibrations from the bass were hard to sleep through.
    • Very small bathroom, only 1 PowerPoint worked in the room and it was under the desk so hard to access

Great location for getting around Richmond. Great bar and restaurant just below the rooms.

Friendly and competent staff. Great room and comfy bed. Was worried about traffic noise but was not a problem at all. Good cafe opposite with nice breakfasts. Free snacks in room were excellent.

    No complaints.

The location is lovely. Staff welcomed us with a smile and checked the in on us daily. Great selection of beers in the bar and delicious food. Great coffee at Alberts across the street. Five stars for the Red Cow! We will return!

Excellent location and extra cool to stay above a pub! Felt like a local

    Toilet didn’t flush consistently

Room was nice - was next to road, so have traffic noise, but that was fien for us

Pleasant room with an ok but tiny ensuite bathroom. I could hear a little noise from the pub below but nothing that bothered me and they closed at a reasonable hour. In this part of London the noise of the planes is inevitable. The cambodian food in the pub was delicious and the staff was really friendly and professional.

Room was clean and comfortable, although a bit tight, but expected. Staff were friendly and was an easy process to check in. Bus service runs right by the Inn and easy to get around. The bathroom was clean and everything worked well. Outlets to charge phones were a bit lacking, but again, not surprising in an older building. We would stay here again. Please note that music in the pub below plays until 11:00 on Saturday Nights, so plan around that.

    Really don't have any complaints.

They immediately changed our room when we found a problem. The second room was clean and comfortable. There are several amenities and restaurants nearby.

The first room was incredibly pokey and the plumbing did not function properly. They did change us and upgraded when we raised the concern. You need to be careful if you are booking a twin: not sure about the other rooms but this was very tiny and dark.

Friendly staff. A fridge and some basic breakfast items in the room. The Red Cow is just a short walk from Richmond Station, and from the Thames riverside. A very convenient place for a short stay.

One night in Richmond before leaving London. I wish we had stayed a week. The staff was so friendly and kind. Would recommend.

Very helpful staff and a great location. They allowed us a late check out and provided cereal, milk, yoghurt and croissants in the room which we weren't expecting. Thank you.

We loved the friendliness of the owner and staff … especially on ‘quiz night’ on our first night. What a hoot … even though we came last. We are Aussies travelling in England.

An incredible breakfast and an unbeatable location. A 5 minute walk from the station. In 40 minutes you are in central London by tube.

    9ColinPosted on: 3-10-2025

Really friendly, welcoming and helpful staff with nothing too much trouble. The recently refurbished rooms are superb and sit above a terrific pub. Highly recommend the Red Cow for anyone staying in Richmond.

    Location, friendly staff, nice pub

Small room, no window in bathroom, unable to open windows

    10MarkPosted on: 2-17-2025

We went for the rugby, so just needed a place to get our heads down. We had a triple room, it was spacious, three good-sized single beds. The bathroom was a squeeze but for the money paid it was more than ok. The staff were great on check-in and we spent most of Saturday night after the match in the pub with a live singer. All in all it was excellent!
