About
Striking and modern, The Marquis of Granby is a former village pub that offers contemporary dining and chic rooms, all amid beautiful Kent countryside near Dover, Folkestone, Canterbury and Ashford. With views of the Alkham Valley, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, The Marquis of Granby was transformed in 2008 to combine timeless rural England with boutique-style luxury. It is 'Highly Commended' by the AA. Space, light, art, fine furnishings and beautiful fabrics: 21st-century on the inside, but with a typically English view from the window. As well as the rolling green hills of Alkham Valley, 3 of the rooms offer a view of the village cricket field, one of the smallest in England. The restaurant mixes the global with the local, with fresh, seasonal menus providing modern cuisine amid chic surroundings and a well-stocked bar.

Pros +
- This was a beautiful inn with character and charm. It was located right where we wanted to be near Dover.
- Lovely welcome and check in process. Room was very pleasant. Plenty of hanging space in room and wardrobe and proper coat hangers! Breakfast menu was very good and everything was beautifully presented. All the staff we encountered were very helpful and friendly. Would have been happy to have stayed more than one night - which, for us, is always a good measure of whether we like somewhere.
- Absolutely brilliant stay, we have been here 3 times before and it does not disappoint! Staff are incredibly helpful and the chef was able to accommodate to dietary needs. Ideal setting for a staycation.

- The lighting in the bathroom wasn't the best for my husband shaving - but that is more an observation than a criticism.

Everything was top notch - high end furnishings, a very comfortable bed, excellent shower, wonderful food and top service from a highly motivated and dedicated team.
Nothing!
The breakfasfrom fresh fruit salad/Greek yoghurt to a full English was made from fresh ingredients. Also the evening meals changed daily and made from fresh local ingredients. The room was beautifully decorated and clean. This is the second time we have stayed here and will do again.

We have been cheerfully welcomed by the staff, and showed to the cozy, quiet, lovely room upstairs.Breakfast was excellent. Sarah keeps the rooms impeccable and Charlotte was really kind and professional. We thank the entire staff for making us feel like at home.

Great place to relax in a friendly atmosphere. Very good food, not just breakfast but also dinner and nicely decorated rooms. Highly recommended!
Beautiful room, very comfortable
Food was very expensive
Everything . The beds were so comfortable. The food was delicious
The pillows but I have a neck problem
The staff particularly Sam and Grace were so friendly but professional at the same time. The room was perfect - immaculate and had everything you needed. The mince pies were a nice touch and breakfast was delicious. Great location - highly recommended.
Great atmosphere, good breakfast excellent bar staff all all good
Coming home
Lovely place staff extremely friendly and welcoming room amazing would stay again
Arrive Sunday evening and no longer did food which I was unaware of, however they did make me soup and sandwich but was craving a Sunday roast which I think would of been amazing there, I’ll arrive earlier next time if possible
We had a fantastic stay at The Marquis of Granby, just my wife and I enjoying a much-needed break. Everything about our visit was excellent, the food was outstanding, the accommodation was comfortable and beautifully kept, and the hospitality was genuinely warm and welcoming. The staff were brilliant throughout our stay, with a special mention to Sam, who went above and beyond to make our experience truly memorable. His attention to detail, friendliness, and professionalism made a real difference and added a personal touch that didn’t go unnoticed. We thoroughly enjoyed our time here and will definitely be returning. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a relaxing break with great food and exceptional service
I had to come home!
Gorgeous property in a lovely isolated location - typically english in character - oldy worldy
Nothing!
Fantastic food, service and beautiful rooms. Exceptional value for money included breakfast to go as we were catching an early morning ferry from Dover. 15 minutes by car to ferry port. Will go back next time
Really nice staff Izzy and Ella were really friendly and helpful. Nicely kitted out rooms all round. Handy for Dover ferry.
Bed was a bit small and wasn't sure why the sinks were in the middle of the room.
Liked the individuality of the room design and nice view over the valley. Good breakfast with attentive service.
Unfortunately we could clearly hear the sound of voices coming up from the restaurant below. Also the single glazing not sufficient to stifle the sound of passing traffic. Slight draft also noticeable from the sash windows.
Lovely pub with great kitchen and stuff. Nice and clean rooms. It’s so good we stayed there on the way back again.
Great brekky, great location for tunnel and ferry, great staff and lovely unique rooms.
I liked the quaintness of the property and the warmness of the staff. I loved the stand alone copper bath in my room and had the most amazing bath!
Single glazed windows which meant you could hear outside noise and vehicles passing by, and needed the heating on in the room as it was cold without it.
