Pros +
- Breakfast was meager, not on par with any extra cost! Poor choice of pastry, no choice of meats or cheeses, or types of egg, only what was plated. Just a real disappointment. Staff was very good, helpful and considerate! They were the only reason to return!
- The staff were very welcoming & attentive & nothing was too much trouble.
- Very comfortable bed, lovely spacious and powerful shower, plenty of hot water. Very nice and helpful staff and a good selection for breakfast.
Cons -
- The stairs, need more comfortable chairs in the room & perhaps a fan.
- In room tea and coffee not always replenished and the duvets are thin and not warm enough for the weather in April Others may find them OK
- The steep climb up two levels of stairs. Should have asked for a room on the ground floor at the time of booking.

Its location. The staff and room.
The steep climb up two levels of stairs. Should have asked for a room on the ground floor at the time of booking.
Bright, spacious, clean, nice garden, great continental breakfast.
Friendly people, cosy caffeè, and a huge room. A perfect location at a distance walking from the central station. Lovely restaurants and a shopping mall within 5/10 minutes of walking.
There was no fridge.
Welcoming staff. We'll appointed room with everything I needed.
Stairs to top floor were very steep.
Large and clean room. Very nice decoration. Breakfast was very good. Location is central. Staff is very nice.
Clean, cozy, quiet and full of love. Small property allows for personalized attention, delicious meals, superb service. Excellent location in the heart of Alphen and close to the train station/ bus station. Very steep stairs so be prepared to drag your luggage but remember it’s an adventure! Was in no way a deterrent to me. Thanks for an amazing job, team!
The breakfast was SENSATIONAL! So much food for one person and so beautifully presented by staff who were extremely obliging. Couldn't speak more highly of it. My room itself was well appointed and better than I expected.
The stairs were two stories up and VERY steep!
The Stadsherberg is located practically in the centre of Alphen aan den Rijn, very close to a multitude of shops. A relatively new hotel with an enormous charm, warmth and very friendly staff. We've never before stayed in this town, and I absolutely recommend Stadsherberg as the place to stay. Our room was spacious and we had a veranda. The room had a separate toilet and a bathroom with a great walk-in shower. Bed was very OK, we slept very well, decorations cozy and sweet, breakfast was fabulous too, it was just perfect!
Nothing that I didn't like. The only thought I had....people with disabilities would not be able to reach the rooms, I didn't see an elevator.
The fresh bakery-breakfast was served to me, to my choice and with speed but care, kindness and thoughtfulness for my needs. At request, they included the delicious speculaas (Dutch spiced) cake from the salon window cake stand and barista standard cafe lattes. Lovely, belle époque decor there and in the bedroom, with the best ever pillows and cushions that made even the wooden chairs a pleasure to sit on. Real Spanish tiles in the bathroom broadcast a recent and meticulous renovation.
Ones own kettle rather than the coffee machine because it gives one ownership of the coffee making process ie., we are living in the room and need this normalising, 'home' activity. But many so-called luxe hotels do not even have a machine so of course it was still appreciated.
Great staff, friendly and helpful. Good restaurant
Maybe in summer with outside terraces it could be noisy possibly…..
Location, friendliness of staff, spaciousness of room.

The friendly staff, decor, food, cleanliness! Everything was outstanding! We had originally booked to stay for 2 nights and ended up staying for 5!
An exceptional little boutique hotel. A great team, lovely design, big rooms, lush decor. Fabulous breakfast, at half the price I would have expected to pay
Nothing at all
Friendly staff, clean spacious and beautiful room, lovely breakfast
The decor was lovely, the shower is excellent and the hotel is in a great location for the train station and the town.
The check in procedure online was great but when I arrived the restaurant was closed and trying to get in was really difficult and no advice was given about what to do.
breakfast was in a cute room and it was very tasty and for me and my mom definitely enough :) It had juice and tea and yoghurt and bread and croissant and some toppings and fruit. Perfect. As well as the room. There was a good, and clean, vibe in the hotel.
nothing!
Lovely spacious room, very unique hotel, superb breakfast and great staff
No hangers in bedroom
