Staff were lovely and the location is great, however, my room was very tired looking and not very clean. My bed sheets were stained and the room needed both updating and a deep clean.

Very convenient and comfortable hotel in the centre of Antwerp. Large room, friendly staff, great breakfast.

The room was very comfortable and the hotel’s location is very good. We had a problem soon after we arrived and Erik was incredibly helpful in solving it

Cancelled a day before arrival

The hotel cancelled the reservation a day before the arrival, forcing us to seek last minute accommodation for a Friday night.

The location was perfect for a city trip to Antwerp. A quiet street right near the very centre of town. Breakfast was served by a very nice gentleman. Not extravagant but plenty and enough choice. Eggs were boiled to order and hot whipped milk to go with my coffee. I will go there again.

The stairs are steep and there’s no elevator. The person at the front desk carried the suitcase upstairs. So it was not a problem.

The hotel was in a great part of town with many lovely stores and restaurants close by. It was also close to the Cathedral and several other places I wanted to visit during the trip.

They did mention there is no lift, and that wasn't a problem for me. However ...if you can't do a flight or two of stairs, it is something to be aware of.

The room was beautiful, gigantic, a great hot tub. It’s like a small apartment in Brussels. Location is perfect.

We were the only ones in the hotel and at night there is no receptionist. You have a number to call if something happens, and nothing did happen and all was perfect, but it felt a bit daunting to be alone in the whole property.

Great location, booked the day before and was very easy. Got checked in early, very comfy room and great bathroom with lots of complementary products!

The room was spacious and there was adequate space to place bags and to use the lounge seating in the room. Location was quiet and the landmarks visible, especially through the skylights were great!

Only the stairs, spiral and normal, but the hotel website makes adequate warning of these. Baggage is carried to your room as needed and the central location totally offsets this drawback.

I was fortunate to get upgraded to a lovely big room in the attic. It was so comfortable. The hotel is in a terrific location (though taxis can't drive to it, so you do need to carry luggage a short distance). Very convenient for shops, restaurants, the cathedral, etc.

There was a dead fly on the floor. The blackout curtain was broken.

Very helpful staff on reception. Great location. Lovely atmosphere downstairs as you enter with relaxing classical music playing quietly and a nice area to sit and have a free coffee if you wanted. We had a small room but it was perfectly adequate for 2 nights. Very quiet considering the old town location.

Nothing really. There is no lift but that didn't bother us.

At check out, I was told my balance is 35 euro, which includes breakfast and city tax for 2 persons. I gave the owner 50 euro. He did not give me the change. Later I found out the city tax is 3 euro per guest. The right charge should be 30 euro. So I was overcharged by 20 euro.

Wonderful hotel in the old city of Antwerp. Great location yet still in a quiet area. Close to the cathedral, local bars and restaurants and transport links..The room was spotlessly clean and comfortable. Great communication from all the staff. Would highly recommend Hotel Matelote and look forward to returning soon

There was nothing

The location was excellent, and the host was a friendly and very knowledgeable local resident.

The towels could have been thicker.
