    Pros +

    • It was like staying in a museum in a good way! So many collections and past items nicely displayed Good bike storage. Wonderful breakfast. Wish I had more time there.
    • A wonderful old, traditional style German building with modern, clean, comfortable rooms. Perfect location for hiking the Rheinsteig. The breakfast buffet was delicious!
    • Fabulous hotel in an old, historic mill, full of interesting paintings - very friendly and helpful staff and particularly the owner, who couldn't have done more to make us welcome. Our apartment room was spacious and comfortable, with a separate lounge.Breakfast was amazing, and couldn't have been any better in a 5-star hotel. Plenty of choice, and it would be hard to think of anything else that could have been supplied. The meal in the restaurant was particularly good.Parking was OK (but booking advisable) and our dog was made welcome too!

    Cons -

    • When it rained, the rooms were very humid because there was no cooling ventilation. The same problem came when it was a sunny day, so the air in the rooms did not change. But this was traditional, so you can't demand any luxuries like in new hotels.
    • The room we received was next to a road with constant traffic. The room and TV did not have wifi
    • When we tried to book table in restaurant before arrival we were advised the restaurant was closed for the duration of our visit. For this reason we changed our reservation to just one night. The only other restaurant open in the village was cash only ( we did not know)On arrival ,instead of a superior room in the hotel we were put in an AIRBNB across the road. We were told this was because we requested a shower which they didn't have in the hotel, the website does not indicate this. The sheet on the bed was so coarse we had to sleep on the duvet. One of the pillowcases was soiled with bird mess.We do not expect perfection in an historical hotel but we do expect a certain standard from a hotel that is rated 4 star.I would not have submitted this review had the hotel responded to me when I contacted them with my complaint..

We were looking for traditional accommodation and we found one. A quiet hotel and good history because few hotels have a working watermill inside.

When it rained, the rooms were very humid because there was no cooling ventilation. The same problem came when it was a sunny day, so the air in the rooms did not change. But this was traditional, so you can't demand any luxuries like in new hotels.

A beautiful mix of historical buildings and spaces with modern facilities. The rooms were quiet and comfortable, the breakfast was fantastic and the staff were friendly and accommodating.

We were really looking forward to our stay having read good reviews about the restaurant and the bedrooms on the website looked lovely.

When we tried to book table in restaurant before arrival we were advised the restaurant was closed for the duration of our visit. For this reason we changed our reservation to just one night. My favourite place that I stayed on the Rheinsteig. Extremely atmospheric and large comfortable bed. Great facilities in the room and an absolutely amazing breakfast buffet. Owners were extremely friendly and offered me a takeaway bag for a packed lunch for during the day. Can’t recommend this place enough- really amazing stay for anyone on the Rheinsteig and I will definitely return

Had some slight issue with check in as I arrived quite late but it was sorted extremely fast- there is nothing I didn’t like about this place

Location in centre of town but away from the road. Historic building with unique features.

Beds were not comfortable and rooms basic but clean.

Beautiful old buildings with large room & bathroom. Lovely breakfast, and we felt very welcome.

Many stairs, but we had too much luggage!

Beautiful hotel in the heart of this village. Friendly and helpful staff, very clean property, delicious buffet breakfast. Perfect place for our family to stay in the Rhine River valley.

    8TheresaPosted on: 8-1-2023

Clean, nice specious room with enclosed patio area and parking (at additional cost). Good breakfast with plenty of choices served until 10:30. Dog friendly although we didn’t have our dog with us.

They didn’t respond to the questions I sent via email in advance of our stay, even when I translated them to German. The curtains were white so they let a lot of light in and the pillows were horrible, totally flat!

Very nice location with mill setup at breakfast area

Receptionist who run around and spoke German all time, although I have informed her 3 times if we can communicate in English. She then spoke for few seconds and carried on anyway. Well 31 missed phone calls at reception desk says a lot

    Old look of the building

It felt like not open for the season, restaurant closed, etc

I think is is the most beautiful hotel I ever stayed in Germany. It was also clean and comfortable.Great breakfast. Kind staff

    9GerardPosted on: 5-25-2023

good location, hotel is full of history, the town is nice, right next to the Rhine.

    9GuillaumePosted on: 5-7-2023

lovely historical place, with lots of charm, great breakfast with the possibility to take a pic nic. very kind people. they have a restaurant and a lovely garden where you can relax. we could put our by circle in a safe place and they reserved a parking place in front of the hotel for us. just perfect place to relax and start various hiking and bicycle tour.

our first bedroom was not really charming but we have moved the day after to a more typical and charming one.

Very friendly helpful staff when staff was present.

Very strange artwork. Lots of paintings of men grabbing women's breasts and disected dolls with underwear. Very uncomfortable for us as travellers with children. Beds and pillows were not particularly comfortable. One of the cups in the bathroom was dirty with toothpaste upon arrival and towel rack was falling off the wall. Keys were left on the desk with instructions to our room, but no one was at the desk when we arrived. We had a hard time following the German instructions to one of our rooms. Wifi connected for my husband but not for me. Roomservice listed, but restaurant was a completely separate building from the hotel.

The room was very clean and well serviced. The breakfast was exceptional as was the evening dinner. The staff were very welcoming and helpful.

The parking can be a little difficult when the hotel is fully booked. But we were accommodated.
