Pros +
- We had a great stay at the Anchor Hotel in Fukuyama. Staff was very kind and accommodating. Breakfast hot dog was a little surprising but it was good ?
- The room is too small for us (1 adult 2 kids) to spend time in the room, and bathroom is surprisingly tiny! However, they offer Onsen style bath which is located in the next building for free, so it will do. I didn't like the color of the carpet (dark green) since it looks so outdated, but we didn't much time in the hotel, just to sleep, so for value perspective, it could be a great choice. The staff is very nice and welcoming. and The location is very close to the station.
- The hotel was really stylish, the bed was really comfortable and the room was really clean. The amenities were really good and the items you could borrow like the denim yukata and carry bag were really interesting, I liked that they highlighted local products and industry at the restaurant and inside the room. The hot dog in the morning also had a sausage from a local butcher which I thought was cool. The room was a good size and the staff were really helpful and kind. The breakfast was cool and original with the cute hotdog and they give a nice welcome drink when you arrive as well with craft cocktails and teas as choices which I thought was a really nice touch. The shower inside the room is really small but you can use the public bath at their sister hotel next door which was nice. This is a really cool hotel and I think it's great value for money as well.
Cons -
- The carpet and tiny bathroom. Dark lighting and there is no desk that I can work with my PC.
- The owner felt kind of cold to me and I felt like she didn't like me, particularly when I asked for help to call a taxi to my next hotel. However the rest of the staff was kind. I have allergies to dust and feather so I didn't like the carpet in the room which felt a bit smelly and older, and it detracted from the rest of the furnishings which felt very high quality and nice. When I first arrived I felt that the air quality in the room wasn't great, I think because of the carpet and maybe the aircon, however the staff brought me a new air purifier and a heater for the room, and after that the air quality was decent. The owner also brought me some extra blankets when I said I'm allergic to feathers (it's a feather duvet in the room). So I appreciate how helpful they tried to be. There was a staff who seemed sick like coughing a lot in the morning making breakfast which I didn't like, although she was wearing a mask. Other reviews mentioned noise, I could hear other people a little bit, but nothing too bad. I think if there are kids over you you would hear them a lot, however. Overall I would definitely recommend this hotel, particularly if you don't have any allergy issues!
- Not a criticism but realize this is a studio apartment, not s hotel room.

Excellent location near castle and station. Nice staff. Tasty breakfast. Access to a sento (public bath) two doors down a nice extra.
Not a criticism but realize this is a studio apartment, not s hotel room.
Saiya-san, Asuka-san, Yuichiro-san and all staff members are very kind and professional. I had a beautiful view from the room, and it was very close to the station and the castle. I love the interior design as well. Thank you for a lovely stay!
Very close to the station but not noisy, very comfortable room with everything we needed, staff super kind.
The location was a short walk from the main JR Station and Castle. Easy to spot from the street. Also a short walk away from restaurants and a convenience store. Staff are friendly and helpful, especially when I needed help with the check-in dates.
Location. Fresh, airy, free atmosphere of the hotel, modernity.
Breakfast was too minimalist (3 options, the best was according to my toast).
The hotel is 5 minutes walk from the train station and 5 minutes walk from the castle. I could even see a piece of the castle between the houses from the balcony of the room. The staff is super polite, sincere and friendly and speaks excellent English. I was glad to have the opportunity to practice Japanese and I am grateful that they all used simple Japanese. I was given a complimentary coffee upon check-in. In the evening, it was interesting to try shōchū for the first time in the hotel's bar. The design of the room is incredible, very modern and cozy! The walls in the room are thin, so you can hear other guests talking, but no one was noisy, so I slept well. The lavender soap also helped. For breakfast, I chose a hot dog and tea. It was delicious and filling. You can buy some denim staff at the hotel. Only after the tour of the castle did I learn that it is locally produced, and I regret not buying anything. Well, next time! I really liked Fukuyama Castle, Sanzo Inari Shrine, art and history museums. I didn't have time to visit the Holocaust Education Center and Fukuyama Auto & Clock Museum, and my visit in Kusado Inari Shrine was very short, so I would like to travel to Fukuyama again. And next time I will definitely stay at this hotel again.Fukuyama and kind people of Fukuyama will stay in my heart.
Everything was perfect.
Cool place, newly renovated, and very close to station
No clock
It was good value for money but rooms were basic. The staff were very helpful. Ideal for back packers.
Air conditioning didn't work very well so quite uncomfortable at night. Tried leaving window open but too noisy.
We stayed here for Shimanami kaido cycling. The location was convenient to the station, and the amenities and breakfast were a mix of traditional and Western styles.
Spacious and well appointed room. Great location. Friendly staff.
Super clean, stylish room with more amenities than you can shake a stick at.Staff were amazing and actively interested in providing suggestions for activities and restaurants.Close to the station and amazing restaurants.
The breakfast were great. I like the hotdog. The quality and taste was very good. The hot tea was a perfect drink with it. The location was also very good. The hotel is closed to the railway station and my workplace.
None, for the price.
The property was close to the station. The rooms are spacious and truly feel homey. The staff were absolutely amazing. They were so kind to us and treated us like family rather than guests. The property is very clean and very organized when you arrive. We will be only staying here when we come back!
The interior design of the hotel was really fun and it was conveniently located.
The breakfast could have been larger and/or the coffee stronger.
The design of the hotel space was thoughtfully crafted, creating a welcoming and enjoyable atmosphere throughout our stay. The kimono-style jackets provided were a stylish touch, made even more special by their use of locally sourced materials. The room offered ample space for two, ensuring comfort and ease of movement. Additionally, the hotel provided a generous supply of daily necessities, which made our stay both convenient and hassle-free.
Made me don’t wanna leave haha
This was the best hotel experience of our 18 day trip to Japan. It’s located steps from the train station and has lots of good options for food nearby. Immediately we were greeted by a very friendly staff. You can see the hotel has put a lot of thought into the small details and it really makes a difference. The bed was comfortable, the shower and bathroom were lovely, the breakfast was amazing (including fresh squeezed orange juice and croissants and yogurt). I wish I could have stayed in the hotel with each place I travelled to in Japan and would go back to Fukuyama just to stay here.
The bathroom door was a sliding door but there is quite the gap between meaning there’s less privacy.
Nice hotel with friendly staff. Rooms are big and clean. Heating works really well and the shower is great. Very close to Fukuyama station, some decent shops and restaurants. Great place if you're using it as a base for day trips. Breakfast choice is limited but changes daily.
Only downside is having to go to the hotel 3 doors down to do laundry or for the baths, but it's seriously a minor inconvenience.
