Low key but surprisingly high quality stay. Great pool and gardens. Access to hotel amenities are a definite plus especially free and ample parking..

Breakfast charge seems excessive.

Location is perfect. Really love the pool and shared kitchen.

Wish there was a way to make coffee in the room.

Perfect for the family

As with all things in Switzerland, a bit expensive for a small room, however it was clean and the shared bathroom was also clean. The complex of buildings was beautiful with lush gardens and lovely pathways to the pool - which was also very clean. Location was ideal and there was easy free parking, if you come with a car

Beautiful, very nice facilities. Located close to train/bus station. Hotel is one level above and adjacent to train station.

Location was good (Near to Lugano train station) and staff was also good and helpful. However, rooms were crowded (16 beds in one room, I didn't expect that) and washrooms were shared between 3 such rooms. Washrooms were not very clean and I didn't consider this worth the price.

I was booked into a shared room and it was really overcrowded…Then I was forced to pay extra to be in a single room.The reception was really annoying. It was a bad experience. I do not advise anyone to book there.

My room wasn't ready at check in, so I asked if I can get a locker to store my heavy bag, this was refused and the only other option offered is to leave my bag in the common room which everyone has access too. So I had to delay my plans until the rooms were ready to be able to store my bag in the locker to go explore.

The hostel and hotel were located inside a beautiful park area, with a lot of facilities such as a swimming pool, bar, restaurant etc. Also the hostel had a kitchen (though very small) and seating area, which were nice. The staff was really helpful and attentive.

The room I booked was not in the hostel, but in the annex of the hotel. Those rooms were extremely small (esp when taking into account the price), with quite outdated furnishings. Luckily after the first night I was able to transfer to a less noisy room (i.e. less train noise, which was quite disruptive). Yet it was still noisy as I could hear everything happening in the corridors through the doors, also because the cleaning staff started very early. So if you're looking to relax in a quiet room, these rooms are not it.

Everything was just great, very friendly staff, beautiful garden, beautiful pool, big, hotel, wonderful cuisine, just wonderful. I recommend everyone to stay there.

Staff was not nice when checking in. They didn't make me feel welcomed and demanded a cash deposit, which made no sense since I didn't check anything out. Finally, a manager came and showed me to the room without any other issues, but it left me with a bad impression..I was bitten by mosquitoes, which I didn't know were in the area.It would have been nice to have been alerted to it to protect myself. Lastly, the lack of soap and paper towels in the bathroom seems unreasonable for such a basic and essential hygiene necessity. The water faucets are rotating style, so after turning on with dirty hands, you have no soap or paper towels; that's a contamination risk.

Great staff, clean rooms and bathrooms, good facilities (kitchen, common room, pool).

Lockers in the rooms were too small and could only be accessed with a 2 CHF coin. Very little space in the room to fit everyone's stuff, and we were in 6 (the total occupancy was 9, which would've been chaotic). No sound proofing, men in the next room were chit chatting till late at night and we could hear everything.

Huge hotel property, gorgeous big gardens and lots of outdoor area to rest. Very kind staff, wonderful buffet for breakfast. Nice big pool area. Right next to train station. Very well organised place

Room was small, bathroom even tinier. Too tiny. Could not close blinds of one window so got woken up. Very loud train sounds as we are right next to tracks. Crowded buffet.

The Montarina is a classic. It is important to understand what type of lodging this is: casual, simple, with a hostel heart yet offers private rooms. If you approach it with that in mind, you’ll be rewarded with a fantastic location and grounds, clean lodgings, and access to a great breakfast and pool. It’s also right next to the train station.

The room could use a fan, and we are still not used to the common European duvet + flat sheet style. An extra pillow or blanket could be helpful. We would love a coffee maker in the room or kettle.

Everything was perfect

Very close to station and easy access to town via funicular. Air con very effective and appreciated!

Since we got a private room we were moved to a separate building with a hotel setting.

There wasn’t anything I disliked other than the hill we had to walk to get there?

The hotel is a short walk to the center, it is clean and the room is comfortable
