- Everything was wonderful, from my lovely top floor room with balcony, to the super friendly staff and the excellent location on a pedestrian street in the old town (and only a 20 minute walk from the train station). Even the crooked spiral staircase added to the charm.

All was wonderful
Needed accommodation for 1 night, Hotel de la Paix was nice and affordable. The staff were very helpful and kind. The room was small but had everything you need. The internal stairway within the hotel was old and beautiful.
Stairway may not be suitable for people with a lot of luggage or mobility issues. Otherwise, no other issues.
Hotel well situated in centre of La Rochelle for all amenities
On arrival I was advised that only a double bed available despite having evidence from Booking.Com of a 2 single bed booking. Charged a Euro 50 supplement by the hotel for a larger room with 2 single beds. Decided to pursue a refund once I had returned home. After lengthy email conversations with both the hotel and Booking.Com, where detailed documented evidence had been provided by myself, both eventually ignored all communications. This is despite the hotel acknowledging in an email that they they had altered their booking process following my issue. My advice - be very careful when booking!!
Staff were very nice and helpful, place was very clean and central. There is a double bedroom on 3rd floor with balcony, really, really lovely.
We had 2 rooms booked for 5 people - the room for 4 adults, in my opinion, is not suitable for 4 adults as there is a "pullout" bed underneath another bed -I would say it is more suited to 2 adults and 2 children.

We are still waiting to receive our (3 night) refund from this hotel and it has now been TWO months since our stay in August. The refund was agreed with the hotel Manager and FOH staff, but the hotel has STILL not transferred the virtual payment to Booking.com despite many phone calls/emails; all of which have been either ignored or requests for payment fobbed off with implausible excuses each time. Allegedly, there was some technical difficulties according to the hotel, but Booking.com have told us this isn't an issue and they have offered support to hotel staff. Processing an agreed refund is a basic hospitality process which this hotel doesn't seem capable of doing. It would appear that the hotel management are quite happy for customers not to be refunded, leaving them out of pocket. The hotel manager stated that the refund had to be processed through Booking.com, so he couldn't and wouldn't refund us directly. We expected more professionalism and customer service from this hotel, even though it's two star. The reason for the refund was unfortunately due to the fact that the hotel room was seriously mis-advertised - our room looked nothing like the online room photos, did not have air conditioning as listed and wasn't a garden room (the one window looked onto a 'conference room', so you had to keep curtains closed. It was impossible to sleep in the room, as it was airless and so hot, uncomfortable and noisy due to poor soundproofing. The room felt and looked tired and the decor left a lot to be desired.
Comfortable enough and a great location. We liked the immediate area and food market at the end of the road. Good bike storage through the main reception in a room at the back of the hotel. Breakfast was good.
We stayed in 20+ different hotels/chambre d'hotes throughout our cycle and the staff were not as friendly/engaging/interested at Hotel de la Paix as in the other hotels (but perhaps this is because it's La Rochelle, a large town). The hotel has a great location; our room was a little tired.
I didn’t have breakfast. The room was very clean and the bed very comfy. The big bonus for us was that the hotel is within 5 minutes of the bus stop from which the bus took us directly to the airport
We were on the second floor which was very awkward as there wasn’t a lift. The staff brought up our cases on arrival but we had to take them down the stairs which went round and round on leaving.
Friendly staff
Curtain in room and kettle
Very close to town centre. Very quiet and close to reasonably priced parking.
Very creaky floorboards, lack of sockets in room.
Lovely hotel in a perfect location on a quiet pedestrian street. 5 minutes walk from the bus station and 10 minutes from the harbour. 2 minutes walk to the Central Market. Great room with a balcony - everything perfectly proportioned in the room. Plenty of places to eat/drink nearby. Very nice atmosphere in hotel - staff extremely helpful and friendly.
Location good and staff helpful
Air conditioning broken in room when 40 degrees and humid outside.Breakfast nice and plentiful but, due to some items like jams, fruit, yoghurts etc being left uncovered, flies crawling all over them.
Charming old building in an excellent location. Lovely breakfast and very helpful staff.
Our room was a bit tired but can see they are in the middle of renovations
Great location lovely family room and breakfast
We’ve stayed here before and chose to come back to this hotel. Decent value for money. Great central location. Comfortable, quirky room. Our daughter loved the bed chair. The receptionist was very friendly and helpful.
Nothing much to dislike, the over bath shower was a little awkward to control but that’s it.
Location of hotel was excellent. Manager was very accommodating and helpful. Breakfast very good.
The bar didn't appear to be open. Balcony outside room could have been much tidier.
Way to reach by walking
Thousands of bedbugs in our room! In the beds, in/on the stone wall, on the floor- everywhere. When the morning came, the bed sheets were covered with spots of our blood. We gain several scary pictures of the bedbugs attacking us that night. I have attached one picture showing one of the pillow side of my wife, when we lifted this pillow. The was the most disgusting night I ever spent in a hotel. When we ran away in the early morning we should pick up those bedbugs out of our hair on a bench in the city park. The hotel proposed a free breakfast, but we have declined the generous proposal, because we just can’t stay any minute longer at this “hotel”.When Booking.com proposes such a hotel, it is definitely jeopardising its reputation!
Beautiful hotel in a lovely old building, fab decor, very friendly & helpful staff. Quiet at night (our room was at the back of the hotel) Short walk to the centre / marina & very close to Place de Verdun bus stops.
No air con (we weren’t expecting it) but had a fan in the room which was great on a hot night
The room was OK and the receptionist friendly at first. Location of the hotel is excellent.
We booked this especially for air con as we knew it would be a hot time of year. One room had no air con at all but on the first floor and with a fan it was just about bearable. The second room was on the top floor. And the air con unit had broken. It was quite literally impossible to say in there. We immediately asked to be moved but this was a no. We were provided with a woefully inadequate old fan. Attempting to make do we soon realised it was impossible and complained again. This time there was an attempt to mend the air con and it worked immediately (but only while we were out - why could this only happen when we vacate the room?) Why did we have to spend so many uncomfortable hours? To top it off the key to this room (up 3 flights of stairs - no lift-in 37° heat) was first handed to my 83 year old father. It was only once we'd inspected the rooms we knew the lower cooler room was better for him. We took the breakfasts which was expensive (€13 each) for a lump of bread and some watered down orange and a coffee. Here the guy serving did not speak to us once... We felt very unwelcome.
