About

This 14th-century ivy-covered castle has a dramatic setting overlooking the valley of the River Águeda and the amazing Campo Charro countryside. It is ideal for a relaxing break in an atmospheric, historic setting. Set on a hilltop with a steep drop to the valley floor, the Parador de Ciudad Rodrigo features a dramatic location in this ancient city. It is surrounded by historic monuments such as the city’s cathedral and Plaza Mayor, beyond which you can enjoy the peaceful countryside – known as the Campo Charro. The ancient stone buildings of the carefully restored castle come with their own attractive gardens. The delightful interior is full of traditional, Castillian furnishings, charming, period details, sunny courtyards and comfortable lounges. Admire the huge dining hall, with its stone arches and historic tapestries – a great place to enjoy characteristic local dishes, a succulent roast and Iberian hams.

Coffee maker in the cafeteria does not work well , not a great way to start the morning, went to the local coffee shop instead. Loved the little outside courtyard area very peaceful. Grateful for the English speaking staff . Wish we could’ve had two chairs to be able eat breakfast for room service.

Great location and parking. Old town good for tapas.

Cuidad Rodrigo is a great historical town and the hotel could not be more in fitting with this. Very comfortable, Hotel and lots to do in town, especially if you are interested in Wellington Bonapart era Also a good stop off for Santander ferry

This is a beautful hotel in a thoughtfully restored medieval castle. The restaurant was excellent, the staff very kind and the room, as I had requested, was ideal for someone with a disability. We would certainly like to return there.

The worst part was actually accessing the hotel but narrow medieval streets are to be expected if you stay in a medieval castle!

Very modern room with good lighting and shower.Good restaurant with good food and very friendly and efficient staff !

We had an interior room without a view

Beautiful old hotel, decent rooms not super luxurious but very comfortable and very nice view. We booked a king room but were given a twin because they gave our room away the day before.

Unfortunately the hotel did not provide air-conditioning as advertised. We had to leave the French doors open at night to sleep because it was so hot (this let in mosquitos). The doors led onto a common balcony shared by numerous rooms so this was a security risk. We would have eaten in the restaurant but it was lit up like an hospital operating room and had absolutely no ambience.

Fantastic old building in spectacular location

A challenge to find within the walls but worth the effort

As usual Paradores more than met expectations. From reception to departure excellent attentive staff. Always willing to help. The location is unique a very short walk from the centre; and the Parador itself is in a historic building. Two splendid main staircases. The room was very comfortable and well appointed and easy to access.

Two minor dislikes, one the parking charges which are relatively high, and it looked as if you could park outside free and the second one was that breakfasts are relatively expensive by Spanish standards

I had a wonderful time at Parador de Ciudad Rodrigo! The beautiful architecture made it feel like a fairytale. The location is perfect for a stopover and offers good value. My room was simple yet comfortable and clean. The staff was attentive.

We loved staying in this Parador, a beautifully converted castle with a superb location and terrific views over the river. The room was exceptional with a super comfy bed and a lovely sitting area in the window. We didn’t use the restaurant for breakfast or dinner but the bar/cafeteria was excellent with good food, drinks and friendly staff. A wonderfully peaceful hotel to relax in after exploring the historic walled city.

    9DenisePosted on: 10-6-2024

The location is superb as is the ancient building and has spectacular viewsThe town is delightful

We were not advised in advance that a mediaeval fair was taking place which prevented both vehicular access to the hotel and the closure of the dining room! Reception staff would benefit from attending a course on hospitality! No complimentary water in the room.Bathroom door didn’t close Breakfast service would have benefitted from extra staff. One poor member of the team was trying her very best to cope

    10StevePosted on: 9-13-2024

It’s an old castle but very tastefully converted to be very comfortable but to still be very much a castle. Easy to walk into old town centre which was both interesting and buzzing!

    9ZoePosted on: 9-8-2024

The dinner was lovely and great service. A huge bonus was being able to explore the castle walls and tower. Room was clean and comfortable, bathroom and air conditioning were great.

Breakfast was expensive, and the prices weren’t easily found.
