Pros +

  • Italian warmth and hospitality at its best! Giancarlo, Daniela and their son are genuinely beautiful souls who welcomed us as though we were family! Any language barrier soon faded as we all enthusiastically attempted to brush up on our Italian (and the hosts their English), with the help of apps like Papago! The standouts for us were the cleanliness of the rooms, the fragrant and pretty bedsheets/spreads and absorbent bath towels, and the beautiful kitchen and breakfast area basked in morning sunlight. The breakfasts were prepared every morning with such care, with delicious cakes straight out of Danielas oven! The home-grown walnuts (which we had the pleasure of cracking open and sharing) - were a special hit with our Swiss relatives. Waking up to the morning sun streaming through the kitchen window and being fussed over by Giancarlo as he would climb the stairs twice or sometimes three times during our breakfast to make sure we were comfortable and happy, were the perfect start to our Tuscan days. I also liked fact that there were only 3 rooms for guests, as it undoubtedly made our experience a cosier family farm-stay experience.
  • The building and surroundings were beautiful and the family incredibly gracious, friendly and helpful! With a translation app they were able to help us understand the traditions of the current Palio that was happening in nearby Siena. The breakfast was delicious (the self made cakes divine) and the room comfortable and clean.

Cons -

  • If I had to be extremely fussy, I would have liked to have a sandwich press in the kitchen to heat up the delicious prosciutto and cheese focaccia. A mosquito spray would also have come in handy. And we didnt like the rain!
  • I am not sure there is much the owners can do to change it, but just for others to be aware to use mosquito repellent before arriving. When we opened the car doors a cloud descended and we were eaten alive in the five minutes it took to walk to the door. The owners kindly offered us spray and plug-in repellent but it was too late for us. We were scratching for the remainder of the holiday :( The furniture is very old and basic, but this added to the charm of the historic building and area.
