    Pros +

    • Loved the museum like quality of the hotel. The staff was outstanding and always helpful. The location was perfect and the partnership with the nearby Hotel Dolderhorn gave is access to great facilities such as pools, saunas, steambaths and more.
    • Nice setting, quaint and traditional set in the valley
    • Loved the rustic buildings! Loved the quiet location. Loved the welcome drink and spa at the other hotel. Good service!!!

    Cons -

    • Checked in over dinner hour as per advance notice. We were asked to sit at outside table by the waitress, and then ignored for 30 minutes. The table wasn’t cleaned and no drink offered while the waitress attended to diners who arrived after us. Dinner was average, nothing special as anticipated by the photos. Bed was hard and pillows flat. Breakfast indoors was like eating in a cow barn, flies everywhere! I understand you will have flies given the rural setting, but this was insane! We had to keep one hand shoeing the 50-100 flies surrounding our table while trying to eat with the other. I don’t know the solution, but breakfast was far from relaxing. Check out was across the street at the Dolderhorn where I now wish we had stayed.
    • A bit hard/slow to check in, since there is no reception. Quite alot of flies. Should put up a fly catcher during night inside the resturant.
    • The shower in our room was very small.

This is a great Swiss historical hotel. It has a lot of charm and character. The staff was friendly and organised. The room was spacious and the bed was extremely comfortable. The access to the spa in the sister hotel across the way was heavenly.

The shower in our room was very small.

Very cosy, cute and comfortable chalet. The room was very spacious and clean. Excellent fondue in warm and welcoming restaurant.

Night tax payment needs to happen at the hotel 5-8min walking, not ideal when not having a car and being on bus/train schedule for check-out

If you looking for typical Swiss experience, this is the right place!Staff is very friendly and accommodating, breakfast is exellent and the sister Hotel has a big SPA right across the Street where you can go (included in your room price)Car Parking behind the house.

Be aware for those who need a TV, that there is none, but you have internet...

Apart from the obvious — the incredible location, landscape and historical surroundings — Ruedihus made sure to be extra generous with all kinds of free treats: chocolates, water, an abundant breakfast, tea and cake, and access to a really good wellness area with different kinds of saunas. You really do get A LOT for your money here.

It was sometimes unclear where to go or who to talk to. And difficult to get ahold of someone who could help. The check-in process what a little bit all over the place, as there is no reception at Ruedihus, and they partner up with the hotel across the road.

Beautiful setting and garden. Uniques 1753 farm house. Very rustic. Free parking. Access to amenities at partner hotel across road.

Room was very small, as was the bathroom. Mattresses were too firm for me. Only one pillow each. Hairdryer was on its last leg and then died. Lots of stairs.

Nice location but service could be better and info could be better.

I went to check in at the given time (3pm). I had to message the hotel and wait around 1hr till someone showed up in a car to ask me what I am doing. I didn't actually get into my room until around 4:20pm. No one was in the hotel to see me. It turns out you had to go to the 'sister' hotel over the road to check in. Having this information before hand would be good, so people don't have to sit and wait around for no reason. All the services and amenities were at the sister hotel across the road, this meant walking backwards and forwards to do anything, no one tells you this before you book the hotel.

I felt like I was staying in a living museum. The antique furniture, squeaky floorboards and comfortable bed made this a wonderful experience. All the staff were very friendly towards me and my dog. I loved it.

The room was amazing, we had the upstairs room in the separate new building. Spacious, fantastic bed, warm in the winter and great bath with claw feet. The adjacent hotel across the road had a lovely sauna which we could use.

The reception was confusing, tried checking in and there was no apparent check in desk. Spoke to two staff members that were serving in the restaurant that told us contradicting instructions of where to go. We then sat and had a very nice meal while they sorted out our room. Eventually we got a key and instead of being shown the room, it was pointed to us. The room number on the key wasn’t actually written on the room we were staying in so had to fumble around trying to see if keys worked in doors and unfortunately disturbed another guest. The staff just seemed to be very busy and distracted.

You could help yourself from the buffet, the rest of the breakfast was set up individually. The room was nice, although cause of the age / style (wood) of the house you could hear walking people around. You can use the wellness area and cake buffet in the hotel belonging to the Landgasthof Ruedihus.

Check in was in Landgasthof Ruedihus itself, a little bit confusing. I couldn't find a reception, and my impression was that the personnell didn't know about the booking and needed to clarify everything first. The check out has to be done in another hotel (both hotels belong together), unfortunately.

unique location, good breakfast, excellent vibes

slightly far walk from the train station, about 15 minutes. not the end of the world.

    9SandraPosted on: 7-22-2022

The hotel is beautiful - almost like staying in a museum. What is awesome is that you can use the spa of the sister hotel opposite. A very quaint hotel in a beautiful location for anyone who enjoys a break away from noise and civilization. I will definitely be returning. They made my dogs feel very welcome too!

The only "problem" is the rooms aren't insulated against noise. It is an old hotel maintained with the original doors and furniture and stuff. This is what gives it all it's charm. But then you mustn't expect recent technologies. The floors creak, you can hear the rooms opposite opening and closing their doors, or people talking in the corridor. But no other noise - no roads, traffic or things like that. So at night it is very quiet.

We were greeted by a smiling upbeat hostess with a welcome drink on the Terrasse with the most gorgeous view of The Valley and the surrounding mountains. They also were very accommodating with minor special requests and the food in the restaurant was excellent.

We had our breakfast on the Terrasse every morning because there were just too many flies inside. The owner’s son was very inattentive bordering indifferent at restaurant service.

Fine breakfast and dinner. Delightful antique farmhouse decor. Beautiful location.

Staff was spotty. Some fine; some not. Room was too small, and bath was both small and a bit dated. Not great value overall.

If you want a typical Swiss experience try this hotel. From it’s lovely facade one is captivated by the beauty and charm. There’s a welcome beverage of your choice upon arrival. The restaurant and its delightful staff serve delicious Swiss dishes (breakfast, lunch & dinner) in a number of cozy dining areas inside & outdoors. Don’t forget to utilize the complimentary 4:00pm tea time (with more sweets than you can imagine) and all-day jacuzzi/sauna/pool/steam room/etc. available at the sister hotel across the street! The price is well worth the stay - you will not be disappointed!

The housefly infestation in the indoor dining areas appears to have slightly subsided from when we previously visited this hotel early in the week.

This place just oozes historic charm! We’ve stayed here in winter & summer months and it’s lovely. If you’re looking for a place to rest your head in Kandersteg this is the place. The food consists of typical Swiss dishes, the rooms/beds are comfortable and you can use their sister hotel’s sauna/pool facilities across the street for free.

When we stayed during the summer months there was a housefly infestation problem in the indoor dining areas only - just sit outside and eat and then it is no problem.

the location, the house, nice terrace and restaurant

I was very impressed by the hotel itself. It’s over 350 years old and they have kept the old fashioned Bernese style. It’s filled with antiques and the staff dress in traditional costume. People could speak both German and English, as foreigners, we felt completely welcome. Also, last minute we lost our babysitter and had to bring our daughter with us. They brought a comfy bed and had it ready while we ate dinner. The food is exceptional and them have a wide menu to enjoy dinner. Try the mushroom fondue, it was great! Breakfast was very prettily served and delicious.

Because the building was very old, some of the steps are uneven and the doorways are small, you must pay attention when walking. This wasn’t a problem at all but, if you’re tall or not sure-footed, it might not be the place for you. We loved the uniqueness though.
