    • A real gem here; the aesthetics of the hotel's interior is splendid. Food, drinks and service were also exceptional, and the staff are really friendly and helpful. Looking forward to my next stay.
    • I loved the historic building, with its Victorian hallways and sympathetic restoration and decor. The bed was comfortable. The bathroom was charming and well-equipped. We enjoyed our Sunday roast dinner in the dining room/bar, with comfy chairs near the log fire. The historic photos on the walls were fascinating.
    • Rooms are cute, good spot.

    Cons -

    • Bedside lamps too dim for reading in bed.
    • Was nice until we got locked out in the middle of the night. The keys we got were wrong and we didn’t get a front door key. It was lucky we had friends staying with us or we would have had to sleep outside for the night. I had no way to contact any staff.
    • The stairs however they were part of the architecture and original to the building

The hotel is full of character and charm, and the staff are friendly and attentive. Featherston is well placed for exploring Wairarapa, with plentiful parking and town services.

Our stay at the Royal Hotel Featherston was one of our ultimate highlights on our trip! Our room was decorated so elegantly, the bathroom was incredible, the dresser was full of warm hospitality items, the Featherston book was so creatively done and fun to read, the hotel felt so historic, and the town was amazing! Don't forget to see the ONLY fell rail engine in the world, the INCREDIBLE cheese shop, and the bakery. This is a must stop place and the hotel took our stay to the next level!

    Nothing!

Loved the bath, but may be difficult for some people to manage.

An idiosyncratic hotel. The dinner here was great. Lovely bathroom. Hotel obviously a local social hub.

Featherstone itself a one horse town. Our Queen room was small and dark. The traffic noise was a real problem as the hotel is on a junction.

Restaurant was good. Quirky old building.

Lots of road noise, pillows poor.

I liked the method of choosing breakfast the night before and agreeing a time to eat so it was served five minutes after sitting down.

The rooms are excellent. Very comfortable & decadent. A little on the "cozy" size if you like a bigger room but they were perfect for us. As coffee snobs, we were most happy to find plunger coffee & a plunger in the room so we could get our fix first thing. Beds are very comfortable & we had a great night's rest. There was some confusion at breakfast as you need to fill out a card the night before to get breakfast early. Because we had to leave, there was a chance we'd miss the breakfast we'd paid for but the staff were so accommodating & made us coffee whilst the kitchen prepared us a couple of takeaway breakfast rolls. Made us feel particularly valued.

The dinner service was slow. Full disclosure...it was a special evening (Valentine's Day) & they were very busy so I'm sure under normal circumstances this wouldn't be an issue. Wasn't a massive problem & gave us the chance to have a great chat with the couple seated beside us. Still a very enjoyable dinner.

Location Is good. Some decor is nice. The bed was comfortable. The aircon was nice. The wifi worked. The toiletry products were nice.

The staff were too gleeful to tell me loudly that I was yet to pay upon checking in. I was already aware of that. This was within earshot of other guests. They also did not show us around the facility or to our rooms, or offer to help with luggage. Also room 4 was too dark. The toilet levers were broken in 2 of the rooms. The area to prepare drinks within the rooms was too small.

We were upgraded to a larger room. Lovely room and very comfortable bed. Great size bathroom. Dined at the restaurant and meal was excellent.

Beautifully presented, clean, comfy bed, fabulous ensuite, friendly and helpful staff, really quiet a/c and fabulous food. Have I missed anything out?

Difficult to read with bedside lights.
