Pros +
- Ample restaurant choices. The food at the Italian and Lebanese restaurants was excellent. The pools were amazing. Access to the ocean was ok. (This could be improved.) Staff tried very hard to delight. (The restaurant serving staff at the Lagoons Buffet should have additional training to refine the customer experience.)
- I liked the location the most and the staff was very friendly.
- It wasn’t the Grand Makadi as our booking was changed due to circumstances beyond our control to the Makadi Palace several weeks after accepting our booking so was always going to be a compromise.,
Cons -
- The restaurant serving staff at the Lagoons Buffet should have additional training to refine the customer experience.
- The interior of the rooms is very old There's no variety in the menu almost Same food everyday. The beverages also wasn't good quality .
- A bit dated now, and there do seem to be improvements ongoing at the complex

The Makadi was lovely for families. The pools are fabulous as they are well heated in winter. The food is good and a nice selection. The Spa which is at the next hotel is wonderful!! This is a very good spot for snorkeling as the have a pier right onto the house reef, which is sooo beautiful!
NB this is NOT a 5 star destination. The hotel rooms are VERY Tired! The beds are knobbly and the linen is clean but ancient. We had lots of bites which management said were from mosquitoes but we didn’t see or hear any. They did come and spray the rooms after we complained. Even though this is specifically a family hotel there is no food available for young children
Very good location Luxury hotel The staff were extremely helpful, friendly and professional starting from the house keeping team , front desk ,restaurant staff Everything was simply fabulous I don’t want to forget anyone because every single one was gorgeous Special thanks to Mr.RagabMr.AlaaMr.sherif Mr.shenoda And the chefs :Chef Kandeel Chef seeny Chef Mahmoud they all tried hard to fulfill my daughter’s picky requests
Snorkeling Food was 7/10ServicePeople
The furniture and rooms are very old
Nothing, I regret staying in this hotel
I was charged in foreign currency yet it is clearly stated that Egyptian citizens should pay in local currency. The restaurant is not air conditioned and is extremely hot, hence having a meal becomes a nightmare.Rooms are old, not maintained, I switched more than 3 rooms because the air conditioner is not working. The room is extremely hot. They sent me a technician to check the ac and he told me this is the best I can have!!The reception guys lied about the ac and told me it is being fixed and it's a matter of an hour yet the other staff said that the chiller is broke and not being repaired. Even the guys working in the restaurant are suffering because they work in a very hot environment. This is not human to treat the staff that wayOn the other hand, food is very poor, no variety, quality is very low. Most of the time the food is the same.On check out. I couldn't get an invoice because the hotel does not have except one printer that is not working!
Staff were friendly and helpful, and the pools were amazing. There were a variety of restaurants for dinner, and the room was spacious.
Food quality could be improved, and no bed quilts in the room, some issues with plumbing. However, the staff responded quickly and did the needed repairs in a timely manner. The mini fridge didn't work properly. There's room for improvement, and it's not that difficult to fix these minor things to get a better rating :)
all was fantastic, My stay was perfect and The rooms were good, the staff was very friendly cooperative, and very helpful especially Mr. Ragab many thanks to all the staff. My room was immaculate big, and hushed. The AC was cool enough, The view from the room was amazing it was closed to the sea that was good for me. Everything was perfect accommodation
No wi-fi in the room
Staff is super friendlyCoral reef and colorful fish is great and the snorkeling experience is amazingRoom is big
Food is ok, no many options for kids( it’s understandable since there were very few kids)Hotel need renovation in general specially rooms- (mini bar was broken and replaced) -( cold tap water pressure was very weak and plumbing in general was not great)Pool needs more attention( broken tiles)Very poor cellphone coverage specially in roomA shower at the jetty entrance( beach-side) would have been nice
I recently stayed at the Grand Makadi and had an absolutely wonderful experience. The staff was incredibly nice and kind, especially at the reception. Mr. Ahmed El Gendy was always available to inform or help me with anything I needed, making my stay even more enjoyable. The food was great, with a variety of delicious options that satisfied all our cravings.
The only suggestion I have is to keep the beautiful beach for snorkeling open until sunset, at least during the summer months. Other than that, everything was perfect.
We chose Grand Makadi because of its location on the best coral reef in Makadi bay - perhaps even the Red Sea. The reef was spectacular. Access via the pier at low tide was a bonus. We also loved the large pool meandering amongst the villas.
In general the food was adequate, but uninspiring and tended to be to be rather'samey'., except for the Mezes in the specialist Lebanese restaurant which were excellent. And why is Egyptian cheese so dull - we longed for something with a bit of bite! The pillows in the generally pleasant accomodation (we were in a Junior Suite) were extremely hard.
The hotel has a lot of nice things.1. Starting from the staff, honestly, they were all professional, friendly, and accommodating, and I did not meet a single person who was rude. And this is a huge bonus point.2. The variety of restaurants inside the hotels is nice and the food was nice too, also the waiters and personnel islnside was so professional.3. The snorkelling beach they have is so nice, but there is one bad thing I will mention below.
There are 3 main bad things that should be in any hotel but weirdengly it was not available or was chargable at this hotel.1. The Wifi, they say there is free wifi in lobby, there is wifi but is terribly slow, Also, there are no wifi provided outside the lobby, meaning no wifi in public areas or rooms, and if you want wifi, it is chargable with a very expensive amount of money (7€ per person per night). This is considered very very expensive for Egypt.2. The transportation from main gate to reception. We had a nightmare in allowing our transportation to come from the gate to the reception to take us, and they keep telling us to walk from reception to gate, which is not acceptable especially in that hot whether and having a family. This issues needs to be resolved. I understand that there is part for security but majority of it is business, they want to force you to use the facilities provided by companies in hotel which is sooo expensive. For example, (an Uber charges for a route 45 EGP and the company taxi charged me 250 EGP, you calculate the difference). We took the company taxi at checkout because we where family and had luggage and we did not want to get problems going out the hotel.3. Finally, the beach and pool opens very late and closes very early, idk why ( 10a.m to 5:00 p.m) and sometimes they can let you up to 7 p.m, the sunset is 8:p.m and this is the best time to swim in the pool and snorkel.Overall, the experience was good, only that three problems was not good, hoping for improvement from hotel side.
Perfect stay for our family of four (including one 1-year old and a baby). Clean and spacious rooms / public area. Super friendly, relaxed and helpful staff. Great variety of food. Fantastic location for snorkeling!! In my opinion, by far the best in the bay.I’ve also liked that next to the resort (on the outside) there was a normal beach.Definitely would return, if we ever go back to Egypt again.
The room is big, nice and cleanThe stuff is very friendly and helpfulThe resort is big and in Egiptian style, very nice! All meals are good enough. Many swimming pools and a big, private and clean beach.Free private parking place!
The alcohol drinks are very bad ?, I mean those from all inclusive system. All of them. If you want to drink something decent you have to buy it.
Location near desert beach, beautiful architectureGood for disable people.
A little bit old room, not properly cleanedNever found free sun umbrella early morning.
I will NEVER come back!
1- Poor food quality: you can find a grill station offering only grilled corn and sometimes grilled vegetables! I asked for a cappuccino at the main bar they replied the machine is not working! Fresh juice at breakfast is for extra charge!2- Untrained staff: almost every worker is begging for tips! The receptionist was quite rude at check-out, he was complaining his own problems to guests saying he was working alone and had nobody to cover him to take his lunch break!!!3- Rooms have problems: We had to change our room from the first moment because it had no cellular signal on both networks and wi-fi is for extra charge. Our second room had a problem in the toilet that required a plumber to visit us twice and wasn’t solved at the end. Pillows are of low quality and not comfortable. They didn’t provide the room with shampoo and body lotion until we asked for!4- The bellman didn’t use the luggage carrier at check-in, he carried half my luggage and made me carry the other half! When we had to change our room, he made us use a dirty staff-only lift to reach our room!!5- We didn’t find an iron machine in the room, we asked the reception for one they replied they didn’t have any at the hotel, they offer ironing service for extra charge!! When i went to the only existing receptionist to complain he replied i could rather go to downtown and buy myself an iron machine!!! A few hours later they brought me one to my room and told me they borrowed it from a neighboring hotel and need to return it back when I’m done!!6- The beach is rocky and you need to have swimming shoes to get into.
Cleanliness, our room was fine well tidied however just noticed our beddings didnt changed the whole week we stayed, some staff are friendly some staff are not, location is good.
Room doesnt have enough socket to charged your phone, only one available that we need to unplug either the tv or fridge inorder to charged other mobile phone, the kettle also we dont know where to plug or boil its either on the flloor or on the table next to our bed and thats the only available socket to charged our phone, the room is so dim not enough lights, was gutted unpacked/packed our luggage upon arriving and going back, very dim i dont like working or doing things with dim lights. Same in the bathroom dim also, if you go for a bath or shower no lights above the bath tub. they can put lights but not dim lights. Fridge is so noisy during the nights, we need unplug and again plug in the morning. We dont used the tv at all because you dont understand, no english at all. Some staff in the reception are not very helpful, and also the guards or security on the gate, there is one time they dont let us in with the car and waited less than 30 mins.
Friendly staff and good reef
Access to the sea is not very easy if you have any kind of walking disability. The reef can only be accessed via a long walkway at the end of which, there is a stare way down to the sea.Access to the sea adjacent to the loungers is also tricky as the sea can only be entered during high tide and water shoes are advisable. . I wasn’t sure how families with young children would manage this. The beach is not a sandy child’s play , type of beach..
all was fantastic. A big thanks to Mr Karam from the reception who gave me a very nice room with terrace. All the staff was very nice and friendly. A big thanks also to the reception manager who allowed me to have a late check-out at 2 p.m. instead of 12 p.m. and to take a shower on a ground floor room before I left at 5.30 p.m. Food is good overall, I loved the Star Fish bar on the beach, the Caribbean restaurant and the French one. The animation was soft and in the evenings we had a place near the pool to assist to some shows and to dance. The coral reef is also very nice.
