Pros +
- Location and proximity of the hotel to the beach is fabulous. Esmerelda is quiet and peaceful as each room is a separate studio. Staff was friendly and accommodating throughout the visit. Breakfast at Astrolabe every morning was enjoyable and reasonable.
- Fantastic Location, right near all the shops in the beach
- The location, the beach and all the staff were excellent.
Cons -
- It would be nice if they had a gift shop/convenience store on the property. Understandable as they are still rebuilding after the hurricane. Lighting on the main path to the beach at night should be improved for safety and access purposes. Airport shuttle
- Rooms are fairly small and not very well equipped. Rooms are dated with some deferred maintenance.
- The property and accommodations are somewhat dated. The toilet in our room needed to be replaced. However the beds were comfortable. The continental breakfast included with our room needs some more variety. Majority of the selection was bread with a limited fruit and yogurt selection.

Breakfast was fine. Excellent wait staff service. Included breakfast was bread, pastries, yogurt, a coffee cake type product, coffee, expresso & tea. For $5 pp a day you can sign up on arrival for American breakfast.. bacon, eggs & hash brown or you can choose standalone delicious french toast or pancakes . Other things available on a menu for additional cost
Drinking water must be obtained daily from the registration building where they have ice & filtered water… bring your ice bucket or large water thermos cups to fill 1-2x a day. It could be a 5-10 mi. Walk depending on building location. The water is fine for brushing teeth but apparently everyone drinks bottled or specially filtered water. There are little grocery stores 10-15 min walk in Orient Village so could buy bottles of water there.
We were in a superior room, which was spacious and well equipped with all we needed. Internet connection was good. Bed super comfy.
Once there was a shot power cut but it lasted only 10 mins.
Amazing location. Exceptional staff. Facilities are a little old but well maintained. The bed was a little too firm for me but my husband loved it. Pool shared by the villa was a lovely bonus. Easy parking right in front of your room. Quiet, safe, fantastic access to the beach and complimentary access to chairs/umbrellas at multiple beach bars. Hotel restaurant (L'Astrolabe) was phenomenal.
The Staff is extremely friendly, as in Saint Martin in general. Response is immediate and efficient. Location is excellent, you get access to free transats at 4 beach restaurants where the service is superior. Dont forget to tip the waiters as their salary is very low and cost of livng is high.
Breakfast quality and standard could be better. It's probably due to the fact that everything is imported. Extra charge for salty breakfast. This should be included as the room price is not cheap. The island is not cheap in general. So in a way, it is understandable.Furniture is a bit tired and deserves a makeover.
Nice location near beach. Peaceful other than noise/ music from hotel across the road in evening and some traffic noise
Expensive - but it was almost fully booked when we booked. Noise on occasion - see above
beach, pool, beds, shower
Breakfast - for price of our stay breakfast was poor quality , inconsistent and minimal. Croissants stale sometimes, fruit always the same, nothing cooked was part of the breakfast deal within the price of the accommodation. Really disappointing. Our porch chairs were really uncomfortable. The bathroom was really dated. The 'kitchen' was underequipped. The beach restaurants did not open in the evening.
Spacious room with deck, breakfast, proximity to the beach, landscaping, pleasant staff
The staff were all super nice and helpful. We loved L'Astrolabe and the breakfast, also the shower and the Figuier Fleur bath products provided. It's great that they have a two bedroom suite option, as we were travelling with my parents and it was great we could stay together! Excellent location, within walking distance to the beach, shops and restaurants!
The power went out a few times while my husband was on work conference calls and the lighting could be improved in the living room: it's quite dark in there at night with only 3 dim table / floor lights.
Fabulous location and simple beach access....Rooms excellent with own pool shared with 3 other rooms...Staff very helpful...
Breakfasts were excellent
Room close to busy and noisy main road.Room furthest from beach.Living room furniture consisted of one chair. This is NOT a 4 star!
The location is great, walk to beach and restaurants. We did rent a car to explore the island. The restaurant, Astrolab, on the premises was fantastic. Beds were very comfortable. Very quiet and peaceful.
Beaches are very windy on the French side, not the fault of the facility, just saying. But I really don't think I'd complain about anything. It was lovely.
Beautiful beach, friendly and helpful staff, Astrolabe and Coco Beach restaurants were great. Lots of restaurants within walking distance. We had a suite,, which was quite spacious and comfortable. We also took advantage of the plunge pool, which was nice on the days when the beach was very windy.
While all the facilities were clean and comfortable, some furnishings appeared to be a bit worn.
The Esmeralda Resort has beautiful grounds with very short walk to the beach. The staff is nice and helpful. That about sums it up.
The room we stayed in (building 52) was old, outdated, and falling apart. The bathroom door knob kept falling off, the water closet light is on a timer, so while using the facilities the light flickers and turns off unexpectedly. They clean the room with Clorox, and the smell is what hits you when you walk in. The mattress was old and outdated as well with very scratchy but clean linens. The balcony was nice, but too many mosquitoes plus flees that bite your legs. Herd of very unhealthy looking cats that constantly hanging out on the balcony and lay on the chairs, because that is the only food source - the guests feed them. The room is spacious but so little furnishings which makes it look so odd and unwelcoming. The kitchen missing coffee maker, had a tired kettle and instant coffee packets. The breakfast included was only fruit cups, mini croissants, bread, butter and jam. On day 4 we discovered there is also yoghurt which disappears immediately after staff puts it out.... Extra $5 per person / per day will get you eggs / thin bacon / small hash brown. On day 4 they finally told us that we can pick anything from the menu that is $9 or less. Would be nice to know the rules of this game on day 1, got tired of same boring eggs/bacon/hashbrown. The resort doesn't have it's own beach you have to rent the chairs ($30 - $70 per chair depending on the club) from separately owned beach clubs, or sit in 3rd row for free in farthest club.
Great location, staff are very friendly and helpful. Good breakfast spot, again great staff.
Beaches, Food,Hotel Staff everything was super outstanding. Check in was easy, staff was Excellent, rooms were large and very well kept, Awesome!!Best Stay Ever!!!

My stay at Hotel Esmeralda was absolutely wonderful! I loved how private my room was, with it's own pool, and how easy it was to access the Astrolabe restaurant and the beach. The service was impeccable, and I hope to make Hotel Esmeralda my go-to vacation spot for years to come.
no complaints whatsoever!
