Pros +

  • Actually nothing, everything was disappointing
  • Right on the lagoon. Very quiet. Kayaks available for rent. The dining room is right on the water. The room was super rustic and unique that it was an integration of nature. Really cool property, we loved our time there with the superior room on the water with our own private dock. A great place to relax, everything moved slowly there. A destination hotel.
  • Clean, nature surrounded

Cons -

  • I got the suite and bed full of ants, breakfast for free was 1/4 of a mug and 3 half cm slices of fruit plus tea. I really was expecting more; was the most disappointing hotel I have ever been. Staff rude. A marijuana plant in the restaurant!! Poor lighting
  • A bit weathered. Activities like yoga were offered but not really, hard to say when the yoga teacher would turn up. The road to get to the property is rough and muddy, so it’s not easy to get to and from. Good place to stay if you’re going there to relax and unwind
  • Lazy chef unhappy to work Staff were half day sitting eating talking at the main restaurant Argentinian chef made unhappy face when we asked to prepare hot tea and paid with tips for it :(

The lagoon was very nice,

The cabanas are ok, however the cleanliness can be improved, the pool is nice but the dogs come and drink water from there, the smell inside the bathroom is very strong, the service in the restaurant is very slow, looks like they don’t have enough staff cuz the food takes forever to be served, once served no one approaches to ask if anything else is needed, no sugar or napkins, etc

The room was really nice and comfortable once we finally got into it. We There was a little kitchen as well as living area. And it was right by the lagoon so the view when we woke up was nice.

From the minute I drove off the main road, it was like I went off roading. I don't recommend with a normal car. There is a lot of mud and it is dangerous for the vehicle. I actually scratched the bottom of my new car to the point where we had to get out and check to make sure nothing was leaking. Also the "breakfast included" was three tiny slices of fruit and a coffe that they didn't even really want to make. Upon arriving we were told that we were not staying on the embajada property but another one that was owned by the same company. So when we woke up in the morning we went by the Embajada property becuase that is where the restaurant is located. The receptionist present was not welcoming at all and instantly told us that the breakfast for us would be prepared at the property we slept at so we return. When we did we were told to return again to the embajada property and that they would contact the receptionist. We went back and honestly it felt like we were begging for the food.

A Tale of Two Experiences: The Good, The Bad & The Tiny BoatLet’s start with the positives—because there were some! The location? Stunning. The food? Absolutely delicious. Massive kudos to the restaurant staff for delivering amazing meals, even if the overall management style left much to be desired. The pool and restaurant area? Gorgeous and creatively designed, making it a great spot to relax. The boutique, however… let’s just say it could use a deep cleanse, possibly a sage smudging, and maybe an exorcism. Now, onto the surprises! One little detail they conveniently forgot to mention during the booking process: You arrive by boat. Now, don’t get me wrong, the boat ride itself is beautiful—but the vessel? More of a nutshell than a boat. Picture this: two suitcases, two travelers, plus three unexpected day guests, all crammed into what felt like a floating shoebox. Not exactly the VIP arrival experience we envisioned. Luckily, we had the common sense to ask Alfredo to come back for us so we didn’t turn into an overpacked game of Tetris. The three other guests looked immensely relieved at our request. So, if you're coming for the views and food, this place has its charm. But if you like hot showers, cozyness, customer service, and full disclosure about transportation methods, you might want to reconsider.

A Stay to (Not) Remember! We arrived at this charmingly chaotic establishment, excited to round off our two-week trip in style. The photos on Booking.com had us dreaming of relaxation and perhaps even scoping it out for a future retreat location. Spoiler alert: Absolutely not.Let’s start with the ambiance—if by ambiance, you mean a music playlist that could double as an endurance test. The real fun began when we realized that the concept of hot water was an unsolvable mystery. After an ice-cold bonding experience with the shower, we promptly booked another place for the next night. Unlike another establishment on our trip that had the decency to inform us of no hot water before our arrival (and even refunded us 100%!), this one had a different strategy: Take your money and ghost you faster than a bad Tinder date. Emails? Ignored. Refund policy? Nonexistent. Customer service? Let’s just say, if it were a person, it would have failed kindergarten. Then came the sleeping arrangements! The room did come with its very own buzzing mosquito entourage, ensuring we had to choose between being a midnight snack or an ice cube under the AC. Would a mosquito net have helped? Probably. Was one provided? Of course not!And now, the pièce de résistance: breakfast. I kindly asked Alfredo for just fruit instead of the standard continental breakfast (which was included in our rate). My husband ordered a paid option, meaning his untouched fruit could have easily made its way onto my plate. But no, Alfredo, the guardian of the kiwi, made sure I didn’t receive such luxuries since I was a mere non-paying breakfast peasant. The result? A wooden board graced with exactly two pieces of watermelon and two pieces of melon. A true feast. All in all, if you enjoy paying premium prices for budget-hostel experiences, being serenaded by the worst playlist ever, and living a thrilling "Will I get hot water?" adventure, this is your place.

The place is very nice and the boat trip is a highlight of the trip. I would say they should start breakfast earlier. Also, the mosquitos here are crazy. You have been warned.

The location it’s unique and it’s definitely worth it. Also I wanna leave a review here clarifying prices of the restaurant are normal. So many reviews saying was expensive. Honestly very affordable prices and staff is great

8LelaPosted on: 2-3-2025

It’s beautifully hidden away, and quiet. Staff is more than friendly and kind. It’s like being lost in nature we can’t wait to return. Sasha gives a lovely massage, and the Caesar is very hospitable

We had a stupid tropical cyclone ?, not anyone’s fault. I loved everything about this place

1LundenPosted on: 1-9-2025

The boat driver Eddie was great! The view of the mangroves and lagoon was beautiful.

We splurged for New Years to stay at a more expensive place which was over $240 US and were very disappointed that we wasted our money. We have stayed in such gorgeous location throughout the Yucatan which were less then $100 and included so much more. There were no amenities on the property to prepare food and in the room there was no bottled water or mini fridge or coffee maker. So you need to rely on the expensive and understaffed restaurant. The restaurant food was terrible and we are not picky. It was also very expensive. The restaurant is meant to offer continental breakfast but they had nothing prepared including no coffee at 8am.Everything including the kayaks were an extra charge. The deck furniture was moody and ripped and unusable. The ladder and swimming deck from our room was old and unkept. You need to park your car at a house and take a boat because the road is blocked off. When we got back from our night stay our car was blocked in by many other cars. When I contacted the manager to let him know he said he is not responsible for where the cars park and just said sorry. He offered nothing and so we had to find a way to drive through the yard to get out. Good thing we had an SUV. I am hoping we can receive some money back for our troubles.

Unique location in still untouched lagoon. We had the room with direct access to swim which made it very special despite the rainy conditions. The decorations are also great and so is the food! I find the other reviews nonsense! This place is absolutely worth it!!Tip: take the boat free of charge and leave the car on the other side of the lagoon to avoid a bumpy ride

There was a bit of water coming in to the cabin so I suggest better isolating them. Also would recommend changing the kayaks as they are rather old and not in the best conditions

9FosterPosted on: 7-10-2024

The location was beautiful, and hard to beat swimming in the water and pool. They also had kayaks which were lovely for going out onto the quiet lake. Super comfy mattresses too, and if you are travelling on less of a budget there are some very deluxe rooms available.

It is a very secluded location so it would be harder to do for long stays but for a couple days is perfect!

7ShyamalPosted on: 6-12-2024

Cute setting and nice little bungalows.

Breakfast was limited.

8RobinPosted on: 5-31-2024

This is very secluded. 1 or 2 nights is perfect for a solo traveler. The internet didn't work in the papala, only in the common area.

No internet in papala.

Beds were comfortable and water villa was beautiful, very picturesque! The staff were very attentive to us.

More comfortable seating needed across the property as everything was super hard and uncomfortable to sit on. Food and drinks could be slightly cheaper if I’m honest.

8LisaPosted on: 3-21-2024

Amazing location on the lake. Friendly and helpful staff (though slow service). Lovely rooms. Delicious food and drinks.

My room was next the sewage /septic tank. Really stank. The pool was not clean. The food /drink is very expensive.

8KarenPosted on: 2-24-2024

This is a lovely place on a gorgeous lagoon. The bed in the room was super comfortable and their are beds by the pool and lagoon to lounge in.

The listing showed the location in Huay Pix when in fact it is on the other side of the lagoon. You have to do a lengthy drive down a crazy dirt road. A road that can become impassible in the rain. Thankfully it looks like there will be some road improvements soon. Also the price I was charged was significantly higher than the price shown.

The morning staff was way nicer. Super friendly with my dog and son.

Too far, not really in Bacalar. Evening staff a little off. But in general it was a good experience and we had a nice time. Thank you

Beautyful lakeside bungalow, very nice staff and delicious food, great cocktails!

The bed was a littlebet to soft for us, and the way, to reach from the highway must be renewed!

5MaciejPosted on: 1-17-2024

beautifully designed and embedded within the nature. good for instagram photos.

- the highway is less than a kilometer away in a straight line, which means you can hear vehicles at night- the music is usually played till late and the strong bass in particular means that if you are someone who likes to be asleep before midnight you will struggle- the smell of sewage in the room was also a problem
