poor service

The staff was hospitable, and when we forgot my sister's ring, they helped us find it. The room was very spacious. The location is absolutely great!

The WiFi was slow. The bathroom didn't have towels, so we had to request them. The soap was not replaced. The lighting in the room is too dim.

Nothing except for the receptionist who was quite sympathetic to my condition

Everything! The hotel is being refurbished at a very poor taste at that. The rooms reeked of paint smell that potentially could trigger asthma, the walls were moldy, carpets were old and smelled like dirty socks, the bathtub in the room creaked when I stepped on it and was covered in mold one side as well. Despite numerous complaints, the managers did not bother to fix the issues and left the poor receptionist to handle the matter. No one contacted me to apologize as well

Bad and old facility, water was very soft and bathtub water never been filled in, it's leaking.Noisy environment and window was old and no sounds proofs. Air conrd was bad and weak, sweating whole night until another room changed, slightly better but the air con come out bad smell, humility smell.

Never go back to this hotel again, feel cheated by the photo.

The location is excellent. As it's main road of George Town. Most important excess to food. And all transportation. Room was large and quite as it was a high floor.

May be if bfast was available would be great and the coffee house was functioning..

Limited hotel parking, 2nd night car park full. Parked at nearby paid parking :(

We've stayed many times at this hotel. We find the location convenient.

The first room we had was 705 - bathtub was excessively used - which we didn't mind but the air-conditioned did not work. Thinking that the weather is hot and it will cool as the day goes by. Unfortunately, we had to insist on changing room in the middle of the night. The second room (#205) was offered was no better. The air-conditioned did not work as well. The third room (#208) was a little better but making my booking way in advance and requesting for a high floor with a good view, we got a low level room with no windows. In moving from one room to another, then another in the middle of the night - I lost my identification card, drivers license, and bank cards. The staff were helpful in saying that they would contact me should they find it. Merchant Hotel - I've stayed with you before the pandemic. I've stayed with you after the pandemic - you were understaffed, so I understand, but this will definitely be our last visit to your establishment.

Strategic location

All plug cannot be use except only 1. The TV is also not working, very dim light.

Disappointing

The toilet bath tub is dirty And poor maintenance I stay 3days 2 night they charge Rm1k+ not worthyid for the money And same breakfast for 2 days I wish to the hotel management to improve the maintenance of the hotel...

Walking distance to tourist attractions

Pillows got bad odour.Found a charlie in bathroom.Room kinda dusty.

my son enjoyed the room.he feels like in a space.even me also enjoyed.

upon check in all was fine.the issue only started the next day when my check out and during breakfast.1.No receptionist during my check out and there was few other guest waiting as me.all waited almost like 20 to 30 minutes.this was realy frustating.2.while room was delayed for check out,so me and my wife decided to have breakfast 1st.when to the counter,the staff(bangladeshi)told us that we cant dine due to our room number was not in the list.that made us MAD more.we had to argue and he accepted at the end.3.hot water was not hot enough.4.room pillow need to be changed.5.please do look over the 4 points above please for a better future.

Cleanliness need to improve especially the toilet and floor as using carpet (got dirty mark on the floor)

the location is good near to supermarkets and restaurant also. the staffs are always helpful during our stay in penang we only book in merchant hotel. we love the place

One of the standout aspects was the friendly and helpful staff. The location is another huge perk of this hotel. It’s centrally located, making it easy to walk to many of Penang’s famous attractions, local eateries, and historical sites. If you’re here to explore, the hotel’s location couldn’t be better—everything is right at your doorstep, so you save time and transportation costs plus it also have free on site parking (limited)

The WiFi was a bit frustrating as it was slow and sometimes barely worked at all. Additionally, the water pressure in the showers could have been stronger, and the water temperature only reached a lukewarm level, which wasn’t ideal. Other issues such as noises from nearby karaoke and street might also be taken into consideration (esp for light sleepers).

The staff are great. I lost count of the number of issues I had, but they tried their best to help me and make me feel welcomed / comfortable. Special shoutout to Michael for going above and beyond!The hotel is very close to lots of major sites, and the room was spacious.

Firstly, if you are staying at the front of the building, be prepared for noise all night. Bring ear-plugs. If it's not the music, it's the birds chirping or cars zooming down! Very very noisy!!The internet connection in the higher levels didn't work for me (level 6). So I was moved to a lower level, but then this didn't help my noise issue, as I was closer to the street (level 2).I also had a number of things broken in my room. The staff fixed as many as possible, and as I was only there two nights, I tried to just get on with it.
