About
Listed in the Domesday Book, this historic manor house hotel is set in acres of beautiful grounds, in a delightful Wiltshire village convenient for Bath, Bristol, Cheltenham and Swindon. A wide columned entrance welcomes visitors to this attractive, stone-built hotel standing in 5 acres of beautiful grounds in Stanton Saint Quintin, near the city of Bath and within the famous Cotswolds. The hotel is close to junction 17 of the M4. The house was once owned by Lord Burghley, chief minister to Queen Elizabeth I, and was rebuilt in 1840. Modern facilities and comforts combine easily and unobtrusively with those of the past, which include magnificent Tudor fireplaces and stone flooring. The hotel's bedrooms with attached bathroom are spacious and individually designed with very comfortable furniture.

Pros +
- Nice room overlooking the garden. Excellent food in the restaurant. Quiet at night.
- Comfortable stay in a large room, staff were fantastic and the breakfast choices were great. Would definitely stay again.
- The setting, staff, decor, room and grounds were fantastic.
Cons -
- The WiFi was terrible in room unfortunately.
- The food wasn't as good as we'd expected for a hotel of this quality. We only had dirty fries and chicken wings but the fries were what appeared to be frozen chips and, honestly, I'd say it was about the standard you'd expect from a Wetherspoons. The breakfast was of a similar standard.
- I slept well but I prefer a softer mattress.

Beautiful gardens to explore, spacious clean room and en suite, charming staff, delicious breakfast. Love the old character of the building. Convenient for motorway and Cotswolds.
I slept well but I prefer a softer mattress.
Staff was fantastic - polite and attentive. Nice and quiet. Loved the "old school' feel of the hotel. Nice patio to enjoy a drink or snack. Clean, spacious room. Immaculate bathroom.
Restaurant was not very inviting or up to date. Dinner was so so; breakfast was outstanding.
Lovely hotel, Very spacious ground floor garden terrace room. Hotel was reasonably empty when we stayed mid week but im sure every weekend it fills over the year as it is beautifully set up for events...So we really appreciated the calmness.. Staff are excellent, attentive but in the background as they should be ??? Would definitely stay here again.
A little more sunshine but not too much ?
Amazing hotel with beautiful views. Staff was super friendly and I really enjoyed the location....loved everything. Will be back soon.
Food is little bit expensive, other than that all is perfect.
A lovely house exceptionally clean and comfortable good size rooms with TV and very nice bathroom and shower.
Nothing to dislike about this place and would highly recommend it to anyone
The staff were lovely and the food was great
The hotel was very dated and tatty. Repairs not executed well.
Location. Lots of parking spaces. Access to the grounds, which are quite large and offered a lovely view from our ground floor garden room. Quiet at night. Comfy bed. Good night's sleep. Tea and coffee facilities. Room clean and well proportion, light and airy. Sofa is a nice addition to the room. Breakfast was very good and staff were attentive and friendly. There is a bar on site, again with friendly staff. Enjoyable stay.
In our bathroom, there wasn't any storage cupboards or a shelf. The only flat surface was the windowsill. There wasn't a grab rail for exiting the bath/shower. This could be tricky for some people as the bath can become slippery.
location,grounds,dining
NO heating in our room or in the bar/ lounge area.Reported this to staff but nothing was done to improve,no heaters or extra blankets provided was very cold whilst having drinks in lounge area after dinner. Also very dark and uninviting area. For the price of our stay I would expect more in terms of comfortable temperatures in both public areas and in bedrooms.
Great food, the room was really nicely decorated and the staff were very lovely.
Room 3 could hear everything from room next door so struggled to get to sleep. Staff were super lovely about moving me to a quieter room. No one’s fault just clearly thin walls. I needed a good sleep ahead of an early work meeting so it was a bit disruptive to that but the beds were very comfortable.
Lovely big room and spacious bathroom. Friendly staff.
Breakfast a bit disappointing in terms of quality of ingredients.
Everything was perfect, the staff were very helpful and friendly always greeted us with a smile. the room was spacious and very clean. The evening meals and breakfast were well cooked and tasty
Nothing!
Beautiful property and great staff! Stayed 3 nights with friends. Breakfast was excellent!
Back door broken and handle missing. Bed mattress was to hard.
Food is excellent and room is clean. There is just few silverfish seen in the bathroom.
We stayed in the ground floor. I wasn't able to sleep at all on the first night as the guest upstairs keeps talking whole night. Footsteps can also be heard quite loud. On the second night, guest upstairs are not awake but I can hear his loud snore. So didn't sleep well again. Upon checkout, no one is in the reception. They only work from 0800 to 2200h so I just realised that guests are alone in the hotel at night which is not ideal incase of emergency. Would be better if someone is in the reception all day.
Nice and quiet with a historic feel, you need to drive as there isn’t much locally but nothing is really too far away.
Ease of access from junction 17Ease of parking Very relaxed setting amidst gardens
More choice @ breakfast Different menu on 2nd nightDraughty windows & curtains that was difficult to get to meetMissing hook on bathroom door Lack of signs for directions to facilities
Fairly spacious well equipped clean room.
I don't like the deep gravel drive - very poor for motorcyclists.
