Pros +
- The rooms were cute and comfortable staff were nice.
- Location
- Lovely room with a beautiful big shower room, loved the bold decoration, lots of little touches like the tiny bottles of fresh you can collect to use for your hot drinks
Cons -
- You could hear the sound of the bar below the music was super loud and although it stopped by around 12 ish I think it was a little off putting. Checking in at the bar was also strange but I understand the concept of it being above the venue.
- No windows in the room, no breakfast included. Self service for water and iron
- Our only thing that would of been nice would of been some ordinary coffee granules for those who dont drink the pod coffee

Room is clean, spacious enough & location is superb
No window view
Room was fabulous. Spacious, clean and well equipped.
Location and style, decoration and books around, free water and the pub donwstairs, looks fresh young and cozy at the same time.
A bit noisy when the pub is full or there is any event downstairs, nothing too bad.
We stayed one night, and really enjoyed the room.Great location for train station and restaurants.Easy check in.Elevator/ lift.Room was spacious, comfortable and clean. And, some beautiful decor eg wallpaper and bathroom floor and tilesWe both slept well: dark, very quiet, comfy bed, duvet, and pillows.Importantly, the place was WARM
There were no windows you could open. Not possible to ventilate the room or get fresh air. But, it still did not feel stuffy
Comfy bed, lovely big room and bathroom. Excellent location
There were no staff around early morning for check out so I felt a bit confused
Breakfast box was a bonus I didn't expect - thank you! Everything was clean and comfortable; the room was well-provided with hooks for clothing and lovely large bath towel - plus tea & coffee supplies. I also appreciated small refrigerator to leave food overnight. Staff was very welcoming and accommodating.
The convenient downtown location (walkable from train station & Abbey) means there can be street noise which cannot be controlled by The Market House. All was quiet from about 10:30 p.m. when fewer public buses passed - until, unfortunately, a person was very loud outdoors about 5:30 a.m.
The room itself was beautiful and a nice size. The bed was very comfortable.
When I booked the room, I was not aware there was a very loud bar on the first level. The music vibrated the walls until midnight. If you enjoy a night scene, that’s great. This place would be perfect. I just wanted to sleep so it didn’t work great for me.
The room was stylish and comfortable.
The lack of reception, the lack of luggage storage, the lack of a phone in the room and the restricted hours of on-site staff to resolve issues. Some of the general premises of a hotel are not met. First, there is no reception. Second, staff is only available from approximately 9am-10pm. So, if you need to arrive or leave outside of those windows you must prearrange it. Even when you do inform them that you will arrive after 10pm, you must **hope** that they actually provide you with the necessary instructions and key to enter the building. They did neither for me. Otherwise, you will be left on the street, as I was in the freezing cold. If you are so lucky as to have a UK phone, you may call a number on the door and a very sleepy, somewhat disgruntled woman will answer and eventually send someone to you. If you don't have a UK number, you'll be stuck on the street unless you can convince a nice Brit randomly walking by to make a phone call on your behalf. The point is, the basics of a hotel have not been thought through. Without a 24/7 reception, you are on their restricted schedule or screwed. This is highly inconvenient and so very open to error. There is no place to leave your luggage should you need that in the morning either as staff won't arrive until 9am or so. There is no one to ask if a problem arises over night (unless, again, you have a UK phone as your room does not have a hotel phone either). This is poorly thought out and I do not recommend it for foreigners. I do recommend it for UK nationals though as at least you can access the proprietor.
Great room, clean, plenty of space, modern furnishings and decor
Slow service for dinner but apologised and food good
Very central location walcable from the train station. Nice modern look and feel of the rooms. The room was also spacious. I would recomend anyone to stay there.
The only thing I remember that the room was a bit warm when I walked in, I just had to lower the termostat and all was good.
Convenient location
Extremely loud as it is above a pub that has a deafening bass.
Staff lovely, nice rooms and good location
Didn’t actually have anywhere to hang clothing in room 11
Great location and comfortable room, was NYE and Lostcity (Reading renowned DJs) were hosting which topped off the night. Breakfast was a basic stir pot porridge, orange juice fruit and biscuits. Greggs opposite though so problem solved.
Location is fantastic. The room was clean.
It felt cold to me and could not get it cozy warm . Building works outside disturbed our morning. The shower was super slippery - I have risked huge injuries to my already bad hip- I literally was sliding down?!! Cheap plastic coating plus my hair conditioner=bad danger. Drink cups were tiny- for an avid tea drinker those tiny coffee cups were not suitable.
I didn’t
The toilet seat was broken, the shower didn’t drain so it flooded the floor, poor lighting in the room so you can’t see properly when getting ready. No iron or ironing board in the room.Very noisy outside in the early mornings
Centrally located, easy to navigate to.
Located very close to neighbouring drinking establishments, and above a bar of its own - it’s not exactly peaceful prior to 11pm
Great value in centre of Reading, nice interiors of rooms.
You are staying above a fairly lively bar/pub, but there wasnt any late night noise. just might not be for everyone!
