Pros +
- Helpful staff; cute rooms; proximity to train, town, and university.
- Breakfast was excellent Room was a little cold on arrival
- A great central location, fantastic character, a very warm welcome, comfortable beds. We also enjoyed a lovely bespoke cocktail in the bar and delicious dinner and breakfast in the Alice restaurant. We enjoyed the storytelling regarding historic and fictional connections to the hotel and Oxford. We appreciated being able to leave our luggage at the hotel for the day once we checked out.
Cons -
- Tell your cocktail maker to smile. A bit grumpy. On our last stay a few years ago the cocktail maker was fun and chatty. The morse bar was very busy so we took our drinks to the drawing room. No staff in their to fetch us more drinks and had to do it ourselves. Poor for a hotel of that stature. Reception staff lovely but took a while as they needed help with a few things we needed.Lovely cleaning staff. Very friendly. Door men were a bit grumpy too. You need to tell the chap making cocktails Thursday evening 19th Feb to interact with the customers. Turn that frown upside down!
- We didn't understand the heating controls initially and when we first arrived in our room the heating was set to 24 degrees so it was extremely warm. We worked it out eventually and managed to bring the temperature down. The lifts are very small, but we found the stairs to the 2nd floor worked very well for us.
- See charges on two drinks £3. Don’t mind on a meal but a drink seems extreme. Also bar staff were arguing g whilst making drinks very unpleasant and then added a charge!Needed a place to drink on Friday evening - restaurant was empty but we couldn’t sit there so nowhere to sit.

Location is great only a few minutes walk to Oxford centre.Beautiful hotel, staff were very professional, happyClean, comfortable room, lovely buffet style breakfast.Lots of Morse connections.Car parking available at an extra cost which is convenient.
Did find it quite warm in the hotel, that could just be me!Requested an early morning call one day which didn't happen luckily I did wake up, some confusion with my request getting passed on to the relevant person.
Hotel is in very good place , in the city centre. Very old and amazing interior, amazing history and rooms, lobby, The Alice restaurant, nice stuff and people. Amazing experience.

Great location and valet parking
For an accessible room the tray with kettle, cups etc was stored in a cupboard close to the ground. You needed to lift it out and plug it in yourself. Not very accessible to the disabled guests for an accessible room.
Very nice location, close to most of the Oxford's points of interest. Really beautiful hotel, with multiple classy rooms, old books, and all these things that bring the spirit of Old Oxford. Restaurant is nice, breakfasts are good. Just a tiny tat pricey, and spa is just OK, nothing spectacular. You need to book it in advance, and it's a bit small.
The hotel was exceptional. Staff very helpful and attentive
The shower did not heat up for an enjoyable shower, the room was extremely warm which could not be controlled with the thermostat
Very good facilities and efficient staff
Hot water took over ten minutes to heat up in bathroom. Then end of the stay was spoilt by taking a deposit which I was not told about and overcharging for breakfast. When I discovered this on checking out I was told it would be refunded immediately. It has not and I have been told to keep waiting.
It’s stunning staircase and entrance hall. The ambiance and the location. The breakfast in The Alice was excellent. The Morse bar is stunning.
I had to call housekeeping and request that our rooms be made up on both days. No turn down service , in one room ( room 163) there was a terrible odour in the bathroom like sewers. The shower was difficult to use and the shower tray would fill with water when using it. Our rooms were supposed to be disability accessible but were far away from the reception and we had to climb stairs.
Old world glamour with vignettes from history.
Could have had a gym. It is designated as a five star but has no pool or gym
Good location
Large spiderwebs in the corner of the room, shower flooded due to clogged drain, taking minutes to drain, rendering the shower totally unusable. When we asked the concierge to use another shower, they offered the public spa shower. Had to push back and was eventually offered a smaller room. We were not offered any compensation/refund, we had to ask for a free breakfast (23£).Our room was over 500£ per night. Even without the shower issues this felt overpriced for the overall quality of the room.
Great service, location,breakfast and spa!
Room heating was inconsistent, but overall very comfortable stay
Nice renovation.
