    Pros +

    • Quiet and 24 he check in, close to Oxford free parking, helpful staff
    • Staff very helpful, good size room, parking on site, well located to access Central Oxford
    • The property is located local to the centre of Oxford but far enough away that you can good the rush of the city centre. The facilities in the room were perfect for a night or two away, and the food whilst pricey was very nice

    Cons -

    • Bed was a tiny bit small
    • In our specific room the hot water took a while to heat up, but other than that, no issues !
    • The bathroom shower was a bit congested, otherwise no complains.

Extremely peaceful and quiet hotel. Good location and spacious dining area and reception. Rooms were clean and well maintained. The gentleman at reception in the evening was very kind enough to cater to my Ramadan Iftar needs. God bless him. Excellent customer service

The bathroom shower was a bit congested, otherwise no complains.

Location good, quirky historical elements, breakfast.

Hotel is a bit tired following our last stay. Bathroom amenities needed attention in our room as they were not to standard in terms of cleanliness.

So tranquil and elegant mansion house. Accommodating staff! Breakfast meals were delicious and warm. Not far from city centre. Peaceful neighborhood.

    None at all

Breakfast was good and staff were friendly.

The beds are not double beds but two singles put together badly. We found they weren’t zipped together properly in the morning so there is a big gap in the middle.

We had an excellent two-night stay at the Mercure Hawkwell. The hotel is ideally located for Oxford, about a 2-mile (and very pleasant waterside) walk from the city centre or a c.15 minute bus ride if preferred. There is a spacious, free car park which is very convenient. The hotel itself has a nice, quirky and individual feel with information and displays relating to clothing and footwear, with the theme included in the bedrooms. The dining room is set in a lovely conservatory-type area which lets in natural light. Our bedroom was very spacious and comfortable, and spotlessly clean. There's plenty of storage space (e.g. for hanging clothes) and the bathroom was very large and well-appointed. We had a hairdryer, iron, ironing board, safe and fridge in our room, as well as a large good quality TV. The heating/air conditioning was easily controllable by a wall unit, and the room was very quiet at night. We had an excellent breakfast on both days - there is a great buffet selection (including full English, cold meats and cheese, fresh fruit, pastries etc.), plus items to be cooked to order (such as eggs benedict and pancakes). We also had dinner and a bottle of wine one evening which was really nice and good value too.All of the staff were extremely professional, polite, friendly, and efficient, and we would like to give a special shout out and recognition to Wendy who was fantastic at breakfast!

On one of the mornings, it took a bit longer than expected for the water to run hot. This was when it was quieter and it was better the other (busier) day, so maybe it just took a bit of time for the hot water to reach our room when not many people were using it. A very minor matter which did not impact on our stay at all.

Really lovely building with some very nice decor and some quirky features like a shoe coat hangers

Had to ask for someone to serve at the bar and was particularly busy in the car park on arrival due to a conference or function but that was resolved by 5pm

Breakfast was fabulous. Plenty of choice, nice and hot. Wendy, who works in the restaurant was exceptional - what a star she is! Lovely dining area. We met the breakfast chef and praised the delicious food served. We hope to return and plan to have dinner there too next time.

Me and my husband cannot think of anything we were not happy with! All staff were so helpful, informative and friendly. Bed and pillows so comfy. It was a lovely hotel. A great location - we drove to the Park & Ride (5 mins away) left the car there for just £2.50 all day and used the bus into the city centre. Excellent value.

Tomek on the front desk was excellent as always, hes very helpful and nothing is to much trouble! The breakfast team are amazing they always make a fuss over our son Alex and make him feel special. The hotel always has a family run feel about it, there's always a famililiar face to make you feel welcome.

Well located, excellent service, great breakfast.

    3ZhifeiPosted on: 2-9-2026

The room was clean and tidy, with well-equipped facilities. The environment was absolutely quiet, very suitable for a short break from the city. The staff were OK and I felt welcomed in the hotel. Comfy bed as well.

The bathroom/toilet was an absolute disaster. The ventilation wasn't working at all and the window was completely LOCKED. As a result, every time I took a shower, it literally felt like bathing in the Amazon jungle. Everything was moist and wet – the floor, the wall, the mirror, the toilet roll... absolutely disastrous. Avoid room 314 if possible, since you literally have to climb up the stairs with your luggage.

The staff were all super friendly. Location was great to the bus stop which we took to and from the hotel. The rooms were clean and well maintained. Overall a great experience.

    10KarenPosted on: 2-3-2026

I really like the staff at this hotel. They were exceptional. Could not do enough to help you and make your stay the best thrThe room was great too. It looked like it had recently been refurbished. Very comfortable bed, tea coffee etc, water in the fridge. Shower and toiletries were great.

I do prefer a walk in shower but that is just my preference.

Breakfast was lovely, vegan yoghurt would have been nice. Electric charge points were very useful

    7AnnaPosted on: 2-1-2026

My son and his girlfriend stayed and loved the location and breakfast.

The room was freezing at first and there was no way of turning it up, which was uncomfortable. The heating came on in the middle of the night and made a huge nose that gave both of them nightmares. It also woke them up.

comfortable room with good facilities. staff were attentive and parking easy.

we were a bit cold, but the staff delivered an extra heater when we raised it. Also only had decaf capsules for our coffee machine. would have liked regular coffee

Loved the use of old working traditions as decor throughout the hotel and rooms. Location and grounds are great

    Very small bathroom
