    Pros +

    • Very charming. The location is great and very close to everything in town, and also very quiet at night. The guys at the desk were really nice. The wifi worked. I didn't use some of the other services (happenstance), so I can't really comment on those.
    • The lady who greeted us was superb. We were shown to our room straight away. She was still there in the morning at breakfast and made our stay so welcoming. She seemed to be doing everything! The free parking was such a relief right in the centre of Wallingford.
    • We got a good freshly renovated room - very warm, clean and with a lovely bathroom! Appreciate that the George team gave us one more duvet (we just can't sleep under one). Really a good team, thoughtful service, and tasty breakfast. Thanks a lot!

    Cons -

    • There was one time when somebody outside was burning something in the middle of the night, and having an alternative way of ventilating the room would've been nice. Not the end of the world, though.
    • The fact that a family member was fined 100 quid for being 1 minute over while we said farewell in the parking lot! How petty to gain a penny! That part is outrageous!!!
    • A bit too hot in the rooms with no obvious thermostat to turn adjust the temperature. Bedroom doors tended to slam shut like fire doors, so was a little noisy in the early mornings if you wanted to sleep in.

Location. Character. Staff. The Tavern (George Hotel Bar) was absolutely fantastic addition with sky sports and a wonderful tradition English pub vibe and wonderful friendly staff, which was amazing. But as a tiny little criticism it would have been nice to have some continental lagers such as Madri, Peroni, or Asahi or similar.

A bit too hot in the rooms with no obvious thermostat to turn adjust the temperature. Bedroom doors tended to slam shut like fire doors, so was a little noisy in the early mornings if you wanted to sleep in.

    Location , and comfortable bed

The Bar prices - be aware , £13 for a small Prosecco …

Nice comfortable bed with a bathroom which had a bath a real treat. Good location with parking nice open fire in the bar.Room was lovely and spacious parking good.

Toilet seat was ill fitting and moved around. The breakfast was ok nothing special didn’t feel freshly cooked. Bar area had a lovely fire place but tables and chairs design felt out of place. Music was too loud and unnecessary.

Well-located with respect to my meeting

This hotel "met my expectations" because I was told what to expect by colleagues in advance. It is well-situated but a bit tired and worn. The heating in my room was not very effective, and there was no heating at all in the bathroom.

Location parking clean and updated room

Nothing was perfect for what we needed

    10ShannonPosted on: 1-22-2026

The staff was what really sold us on our stay here. They were so great both at the front desk and in the pub. The food at breakfast seemed a little pricy for what we got, but it was good. We ate dinner in the pub twice and it was absolutely delicious. In fact, we had the same thing both days because it was so good. I had also emailed a lot of questions prior to my stay with some requests and all were met and answered. Really enjoyed it, would absolutely return here.

Breakfast and breakfast waitress were delightful

Room was freezing unlike the corridor outside. A colony of tiny spiders were occupying the bathroom. Sink taps loose. Considering the hotel was virtually empty, why was I given the worst room. I suspect because I booked through booking.com at a cheap rate. Bath needs ripping out and a decent shower cubicle installed.

Starting with its picturesque exterior, the George Hotel combines personality with good service. My room was modest but offered required facilities. A bar and bistro were on the premises, and parking was provided. The town's shopping, services, restaurants and pubs were a few steps away, and riverside walks not much farther.

    10AnnPosted on: 1-12-2026

I have always used the George to stay when visiting my son who lives in the town, convenient and has parking too

    9GemmaPosted on: 1-12-2026

Great location, beautiful rooms very comfortable

Food wasn’t great. Too much salt in the food and too much pepper in the scrambled egg for breakfast.

    10MartinPosted on: 1-5-2026

The hotel is clean, and in a lovely location close to the river. Ample parking with friendly, efficient staff.

    Nothing - perfect stay

    8SandraPosted on: 1-5-2026

I know this hotel well having stayed here many times. It is in an excellent location. It has obviously had a rooms refurb which was good. The staff were friendly, cheerful and helpful. An added bonus was the free EV charging

Whilst very necessary, the fire doors are extremely heavy and difficult to open in the “ newer” part of the hotel and being situated at the tops of very steep stairs, makes accessing these rooms extremely difficult for older people

    9WendyPosted on: 12-31-2025

Terrific location, clean, well-presented rooms, great water pressure in shower, friendly staff

Not a concern, just noted some rooms are upstairs and there’s no lift so you need to carry your luggage. There are rooms on the ground floor if that’s a problem.

    6JohnPosted on: 12-28-2025

    Very good breakfast

the ground floor rooms are double only and expensive for a solo traveller. This is unfair to people with mobility problems. There is no lift.

Great rooms especially the club rooms

The Christmas Day lunch food was not good at all and very slow service
