- Quirky and different. Made a nice change from staying in a ?normal? hotel!
- Excellent location and very clean comfortable hotel. The staff is super helpful and friendly, giving good recommendations for tea rooms and restaurants.
Cons -
- Room was dark and the temperature was difficult to regulate--had to keep balcony door open to generate air flow, which required us to contend with noisy (drunken) customers outside
- I wish the shampoo and soap dispensers in the bathroom were better but that’s the only complaint.
- The only issue I had was with the air conditioning. The room was quite damp and warm. The thermostat (maybe? It was hard to tell what it was) seemed to make no impact.

Wonderful, clean, historic!

Nice room with an unique feel given its 'prison' location. Central position for Oxford attractions.
Breakfast was a bit overpriced given the OK quality.
This is one of the best hotels I've visited. The staff is super helpful, the room is spacious and super nice. We stayed in one of the ex prision cells and it didn't disappoint. I'd totally return to this hotel. And it is located near the station but the city center as well.
Great location and setting - bar, restaurant, and rooms are excellent. A real talking point and exciting place to stay.
Perfect location Clean room Wonderful staff
No complementary water bottles
Fantastic location
Lots of strange noises at night for the heating and plumbing, plus flashing lights from the smoke alarm and heating.
Location great, comfortable, clean. Very unique hotel and breakfast was fab.
Amazing decoration considering it was a prison not long time ago. Bed very comfortable and great bathroom
I don’t have complains
What a cool place. It’s actually part of Oxford castle…the part that was a prison until the late ‘90s! So much history, right in a very walkable part of town. The restaurant was fantastic, too. Our valet was particularly attentive. He was always available and had our car ready without us even asking.
Everything, staff were very accomodating

Beautiful property inside and out.
Hard to find. Very hard to find. If you have step by step directions from parking garages. You have a small parking lot only available for a high price. Parking vouchers would help.
Unique architecture and very good breakfast.
Rooms are kind of small and the shower has little pressure. I found it overpriced.
Great location
They didn't tell us we had to walk up and down basically three sets of stairs to get to our room. The elevator wasn't working and it didn't look like they were doing anything to get it working again. We expected to stay in the old jail, but they put us in a room in a modern annex. That took away some of the mystic.
The location. It was a unique property being an old prison.
The closet in the room was in an odd location where you could not open the doors properly. There were no controls for air or air conditioning. One safety handle in shower was very loose. Breakfast was £25 , no a la carte menu.
Beautiful, unique hotel in a great location in central Oxford. The staff were professional and friendly, and always willing to assist you with any requests.
The room was clean and ready even though we arrived early; breakfast was good, continental items were offered buffet style, with hot options available by menu and delivered fast; dinner at Chez Mal was excellent and exceeded our expectations. Location was an easy walk from the train station and very accessible to other attractions. The staff was extremely kind, helpful and efficient.
The room was a little warmer than I prefer, and adjusting the thermostat (a dial with ambiguous functioning) didn't seem to affect the temperature. I would have appreciated a separate bottle of hair conditioner, as my hair doesn't do well with only shampoo in the shower/bathtub.
Unique concept as former prison converted into boutique hotel. Bed was very comfortable and location was near city centre, but also quiet. Had dinner at the hotel's restaurant Chez Mal and it was top notch.
