Pros +
- Great character of on old English pub Inn within easy walking distance of Oxford University. Nice breakfast from a very helpful lady.
- Great location, comfortable beds, excellent shower- nice & hot, great water pressure. Coffee & tea left for us.
- We stayed in a self contained apartment with four people, behind the Inn. It was conveniently located just around a corner of Cowley Street, where we could find nice breakfast and dinner places, and in approx 10 minutes we were in the center of Oxford. Everything was well within walking distance. The beds were comfortable and clean. The communication with the owner was through booking.com and went very smoothly.
Cons -
- Bedrooms were great, but the pub itself is worn. A lick a paint would fully restore its charm. This is a city center so noises start at early. Contractor loading in the pub car park at 7am could be more sensitive to guests sleeping a few feet away.
- Nothing not to like
- The bathroom was a bit small.

The bathroom was a bit small.
Great location. Lots of room. Quiet.
Worn and dated. The Internet was horrible, and often didn’t work (ancient Netgear equipment). No wash cloths. No top sheets. Flooring is worn badly. The door to the water heater next to the shower didn’t close. Some of the bathroom tile grout has spots of mold.
Nice location, very walkable to Oxford sights and restaurants.
Room was quirky with roof angles and a bit loud from traffic outside window.
Wifi is fast. Free Parking. There was no air conditioner, but the room had fans. There is a nice little pub below, and it is not loud.
Location is good
Poor bed. Small space
Name, location, price. Opposite the Oranges and lemons, an excellent pub with good breakfast.
Check-in is advertised as from 1400hrs but no one was there until 1630 and no response to 'phone calls. Some people were waiting to check out, which they said they had been told was available at 1400 but no one there. Their onward journey must have been heavily compromised. The signs outside the place advertised access from 1400 every day of the week and the place was locked up from about 2030hrs. Accommodation severely cramped. We were on the top floor and I banged my head on the ceiling (I'm 5'10") so many times it wasn't funny. bathroom so small one couldn't turn round, never mind swinging a cat. Stairs very cramped and awkward, staff was very pleasant and did help with luggage. on the stairs.
This was a nice and clean room. I am most happy because of its location. It is across the bridge from the busy city center. It was calm in our neighborhood. It is across the street from a great pub, Oranges and Lemons. It was a stone's throw to a venue to see music. We saw music performances twice. We ate at the Oranges and Lemons pub at least three times. The pub has the cheapest best English breakfast we had on our tour. This Inn was a perfect relax and respite.
All English Inn ceilings are low.
Fantastic location - short walk to everything. Easy parking (for an extra fee, but hey, it’s central Oxford). Room was quiet despite being above a pub, access was ‘fun’ for two tall Canadians (we both hit our heads on the low ceilings a few times! Yow!) but that just made it all the more charming.
Nothing - it was great.
Old, dirty, cramped, unmanaged.
Our room was an odd shape, old, dusty, dirty, cramped. The worst accommodation in our travels.
The room was comfortable. I liked that there was a small refrigerator. Whoever furnished the room seems to have taken extra care to make it as pleasant as possible. The location was convenient, not far from Magdalen College.
There wasn't any bag storage available when we arrived before checkin time. The hallway and stairs were somewhat difficult to navigate, with low ceiling clearance. There is no breakfast provided.
Location and parking are excellent. The building and rooms have character, it was enjoyable!
Our bed wasn’t very comfortable though our daughters was fine.
They have not served BREAKFAST since 2019Handy location to Resteraunts
No service to rooms no clean towels till day 4 Water flow to SHOWER had been reduced to a trickle and controls for shower temperamental HAND BASIN had full force of water
Location was excellent, owner was very pleasant, and its nice to have cozy room over a bar.
The hotel was ideally situated for a short break in Oxford with easy access and parking. The room was very clean and seemed to be recently refurbished. We didn't try the restaurant .Although breakfast wasn't included there was a place just round the corner..
Although it was an Inn it didn't feel very Inn like.
its a nice inn but the surrouding area has a noise pollution problem
there was a lot of street noise in the night. passing cars, shouting people. that is not in the control of the inn but i was woken up multiple times between 8pm and midnight
It was within a good walking distance of the train station, not too far from the shops, and situated exactly where I needed to go.The owner was friendly and helpful.Getting in and out was no problem, very easy to do.The room was a bit small, but for a single person that was rarely in the room, it was exactly what I needed.Comfy bed, working facilities, exactly what I needed.
The bedroom window was difficult to close at night. The fridge was not rather clean and made a loud noise, so I had to turn it off at the plug at night. There was a broken hairdryer in the drawer. One night, there was a strange sewage smell in the bathroom, and I am unsure whether this was from inside or outside wafting in through the window.
It was a perfect location for the venue and amenities, within a short walk. The bed was comfortable and nicely laid out. The entrance was at the rear of the property so there was no need to keep going through the bar entrance. We had a twin room facing a busy street but could not really hear a lot of noise at all
There needs to be more lighting in the room as there were only wall lights. We had to buy some Mr Muscle to unclog the drain in the shower cubicle, these sort of things should be done by the staff.Bar/restaurant seemed to be shut rather early, we were quite disappointed as we would have liked a meal in there or to chill in the bar.Fridge in the room was warm
It's in a lively part of town close to the centre, and I was concerned that being an Inn it might be noisy, but the soundproofing was really good and I didn't hear a peep from the bar even though I was really close to it and people there were clearly having a very good time.
In some contexts it's described as a 'B&B' but they don't serve breakfast. That's no problem, as there's the perfect, good-value breakfast place two minutes' walk away, Tick-Tock on the Cowley Rd. It's a really old building, basically 17c. with appropriate upgrading, so narrow creaky stairs. 'Characterful', I'd say, again not a problem for me.
