Pros +
- Room was comfortable and quiet
- The breakfast was a continental breakfast with toast. The hotel is in a dinky little corner of Oxford which is actually quite handy for the shops
- Low key, very comfortable, bed and breakfast right in the center of Oxford. Located in a historic building with clean and comfortable rooms. In room tea service is generous and includes biscuits. Complimentary continental breakfast is excellent. Good hot water and fluffy towels with heated towel rack. Friendly and helpful staff. This is second visit and will stay there again.
Cons -
- Breakfast was poor. Piece of bread or a blank croissant. I ended up going out for a proper breakfast. They shouldn't say they provide a breakfast because they don't unless you want to order ala carte ahead of time..
- Room maintenance could be improved. The shaver socket was unusable and the bath taps needed labelling
- Steep stairs.

Friendly staff, wonderful quirky old room. The whole place is full of character, but also warm and quiet. Good continental breakfast. Also central location.
Steep stairs.
awesome character property, awesome central location, great service, loved the cooked breakfast
shower needs to be updated / mended
My room had its own private garden! The room was comfortable, clean, and had everything I needed. The location could not have been better - a very short walk finds Bodleian, Sheldonian, Bridge of Sighs, Radcliffe, etc! The Turf Tavern, which is a wonderful pub, is on the property. The staff was incredibly accommodating, friendly and helpful! They also have limited parking nearby (for a fee, but when driving, that's a wonderful opportunity).
The woman at reception was so nice and helpful. She even moved us to a better room. The breakfast was also really nice and the location just couldn't be better. I would definitely go there again.
It felt like Fawlty Towers and the location is excellent.
The way they do breakfast is confusing and difficult.
Very convenient location. And I slept well.
The complimentary breakfast only included a bread basket.
Fantastic included breakfast. Fresh rolls/pastries and French press coffee.
Cozy room; charming antique decor. Pleasant reception staff.
The shower/bath in unit 1 was very awkward to climb into. There were no plugs in the bathroom for hair dryer. The bedroom only had one small mirror over the desk.
location , charm of the rooms, history
items on the non-continental breakfast were too pricey to tempt us
Location for this hotel was excellent! We were so close to everything we wanted to see (museum/library/church etc) within walking distance. It was tucked down a side street and was easy to get to. Staff were friendly and let us keep the car longer in the secure lock up so we could still explore on our second day, very appreciated, which was a really short walk away. It’s an older property, but quaint and had all the necessary features for a one night stay. It got very warm at one point with the heating on, hard to navigate how to reduce this easily and there wasn’t a great deal of ventilation through the windows but it was manageable. If the weather was warmer this might have been more of an issue. Breakfast was available and looked good but we were running late so didn’t get a chance to try it sadly.
We did think the bed was extremely uncomfortable and the pillows too thin (even with two provided they weren’t any larger than one pillow put together). It does back on to a pub garden, so if you’re an early riser perhaps a room not backing on to that would be best. But wasn’t an issue for us as we came back at the time the pub kicked out.
Well located. Excellent parking
Room was tired with threadbare carpet and chipped paintwork. The bathroom was difficult to use for someone who had mobility problems.
A perfect atmospheric location and building. We loved its quirkiness and old world feel.
The decor was full 1980s floral which we liked as part of its charm but not fresh or modern.
Very spacious, warm and comfortable. Right in the centre. Beautiful old cottage.
Breakfast adequate. It was great to be close to New College , where my daughter attended. Also. Great access to the Turf Tavern for good food and drink! Good access to parking and walks to museums and the city center.
IIt was freezing weather , and the heating could have been better. Also TV was tiny. ., need a more modern one.
Location, character
Breakfast - for the price, we would have liked a fuller breakfast - fruit, cereal, muesli, cheese etc.
Fabulous location, in the centre of Oxford, historical buildings on your doorstep.Lovely grade ll listed building, completely understand there are limitations to what can be done within the property, the charm of this building is lovely and you should only stay if you appreciate low ceilings, small windows, sloped floors and tight, spiral staircases. Staff very nice.
We had a family room for 3 adults, bright, nice white bed linen, white walls, furniture could be better quality, we had to mention the headboard was coming away from bed base, this was fixed when we went out for the evening. I slept well, my sister not so well, she felt the mattress was lumpy and needed replacing. Not a fan of carpet in a bathroom for hygiene reasons but the floor is not level so it may be difficult to have an alternative, glad I took slippers! Curtains and window seat cushions looked tired and dated would benefit from updating. Door to room a little concerning as it is difficult to open and close, I had to give it a really good yank, in an emergency some may find it a struggle to open - easily rectified, door needs slight trim, it is catching on carpet! Breakfast - we opted to order a full English at £17 per head, if I’m honest, it was disappointing, underwhelming, 1 sausage (my sisters was undercooked) large Tomato, two eggs, 1 piece of bacon and toast, some items were cold, we wish we had either stuck with the continental option or found somewhere else to have breakfast, Continental Option - a basket containing croissants, pastries and toast, I believe you have to pay extra for condiments - no meats, cheese, fruit, yoghurt included.Parking very handy, drop off bags, collect car park key, drive to car park 1 minute up the road!
It was the only disappointment. Continental breakfast usually includes some fruit at least. This was all pastries or bread - albeit nice ones - but so very heavy on stomach and nothing fresh
Lack of balance food in breakfast
