Pros +
- Friendly staff, good value
- Great interiors. On site parking.
- Quirky decor. Great location.
Cons -
- I have stayed at the Galaxie before and really liked the superior room we had. This time I choose a cheaper room but really disliked the deco. There are lots of artefacts in the room such as dried flowers and ugly paintings. I like antique furniture but the atmosphere felt more like a cheap bric a brac. It is a shame because the room was well sized and the bathroom nice. It would look so much better without all that junk.
- Compact rooms.
- Had to negotiate deep puddle in the car park to get to my car!Uncomfortable seam down middle of my double bed (single occupancy)

Had to negotiate deep puddle in the car park to get to my car!Uncomfortable seam down middle of my double bed (single occupancy)
The room was absolutely lovely and had more than I expected. The bathroom was great and extra, and the whole room was clean and organised.
The ceiling fan doesn’t work or there aren’t instructions so the room got a bit stuffy in the night
What a find! Excellent value room, high quality furnishings, lovely room and shower, super friendly staff, nice bar and cozy lounge area, eclectic décor…really enjoyed my stay! Bus stop into Oxford right outside hotel.
The room was comfortable, the heating was easy to adjust, and I especially liked that the shower was roomy and worked well. It was also nicely decorated. It is a good location for something affordable to get in and out of central Oxford pretty easily.
The hot English breakfast could have been kept warmer at the buffet.
It was something a bit different. My daughter and I had a room each and they were both very different in style but both lovely and comfortable. The staff were great and we really enjoyed sitting in the small bar area playing cards and having a glass of wine.
We didn’t end up going with their breakfast as we felt we wanted something hot to set us up for the day and they offer a continental breakfast which we thought looked a bit limited.
Really nice decor, comfy bed, lots of space in the room.
Cooked breakfast was cold. Couldn't find anyone on the desk most of the time. Room could have been a little cleaner
Breakfast was really good, plenty of choice. The hot food could have been a bit hotter but difficult I suppose. The staff were very pleasant I loved the quirkiness of the place, lots of plants, ornaments, old furniture.
Perhaps better insulation between rooms, could hear people next door talking and room doors closing quite loudly whereas the traffic outside was not a problem at all
Nice interior and good breakfast.
Small room and very dusty under the bed. Don think they have hoovered there for months. We only had one hand towel between two and no hooks to hang clothes on in the bathroom. No cupboard for clothes in the bedroom- just a coat rack. Only very basic facilities.
Great decor, staff, and breakfast
Quirky hotel right outside Oxford city center (10-minute bus ride or 20-minute walk). The receptionists were super nice and helpful—service was definitely a standout. Room was nice and quiet.
The shower door leaked water out onto the floor of the bathroom.
Unlike other hotels I have stayed at in Oxford, the heating was good. Nice to have a kettle and a supply of tea bags and milk.

Bed was ok for comfort
Room had cladded panels on wall dark blue/green filthy due to the dark colour you can see the the dirt along the ledges the lamps were filthy the base was as dirty as the walls with thick dust on it room had no heating it was freezing I slept in a cardigan food was very sparse and slow at getting made
The Galaxie is a lovely, quirky little spot in Summertown, near shops, a few pubs and places to eat. The staff were friendly and helpful, the breakfast was great with lots of choice (they even had shakshuka), and the decor is colourful and fun. There are also nice little touches, such as a cabinet with bowls of sweets you can help yourself to. (Make sure you open the cabinet though... The glass is so clean that my friend didn't even know it was there, and accidently punched the glass while going to get some sweets.)
Better than the opposite I suppose, but the rooms were really hot! I had to keep my window pretty wide open so I didn't turn into a prune. But certainly better than being cold.
Clean, quiet, and comfortable. Friendly staff, decent location, decent price, good restaurant on site, charming decor, enchanting ambiance... What’s not to like? I would stay here again.
The breakfast was very good. The room and entire hotel was very clean and nicely decorated. It was a very relaxing stay. Exactly what I was hoping for
Quirky decoration and colours which gave it a unique ‘curated’ feel. Lovely comfy bed with nice quality bedding in a panelled room. Pretty good water pressure in the shower. The breakfast staff were very helpful and friendly.
I felt that £10 for parking and £12.50 for breakfast was pretty steep.
great décor. very helpful staff. decent food, overall excellent value for money. would definitely recommend.
£10 charge for parking my car in the carpark. Nobody likes "hidden extras". Location was a little further out than is ideal (25-30 minute walk). No particular bother for me and my friend but worth noting for those less mobile.
I picked this hotel because of the location and its quirkiness. The room was spacious and had everything you need except for coat hooks. The bed was comfortable and the staff was helpful.
To be honest it’s a bit beyond quirky especially the breakfast room and garden. So cluttered a hoarders dream! And cluttered spaces are really hard to dust and keep clean with was evident. The room 105 was downstairs next to the front door and it was so noisy. With the road and the front door opening and closing a hundred times I hardly slept. Some of the decorations and furnishings are tired looking and even broken. And the fan in the bathroom was giving me final destination vibes.
