About

Built at the foot of Manchester Cathedral in 1815, the Miter is one of the oldest hotels in Manchester city center. It has a restaurant and bar and provides free Wi-Fi in public areas. Each room features a TV and free tea and coffee, with most also boasting lovely views of Manchester Cathedral, the Corn Exchange, Selfridges and Sinclairs Oyster Bar. Rooms are available both with a private bathroom and with shared bathroom facilities. Please note that there is no elevator at the property and no ground floor rooms. With its grand exterior, The Miter Hotel has retained its period charm, but now features modern interior design in the bar and guest areas. The front desk is open 24/7. Placed next to Victoria Rail Station, the AO Arena is 5 minutes’ walk away. We have an amazing connection to CO-OP Live arena via car (approximately 15 minutes) or via tram (approximately 12 minutes). The hotel is in the center of Manchester’s vibrant night life, across the square from the Printworks, with the Arndale Shopping Center just a 4-minutes walk away. The hotel is ideally placed near Shudehill tram station, making journeys to both Old Trafford and The Etihad Stadium easy for football fans. Please be advised we do not have on site parking, we can provide a discount code for a parking facility that is within a 5 minute walk, you have to pre book for a discount and this is public parking which is subject to availability.

    • Location large clean rooms
    • Location is excellent lovely old building breakfast is excellent
    • Did not have a breakfast. Location was excellent however. Central to lots of city sights and attraction. Only a 12 minute walk to the music venue I was going to. Accommodation was comfortable and clean and literally no more than five minutes walk to the train station which was very convenient.

    8DorisPosted on: 2-23-2026

It is centrally located and tou have. Avery good view of city center and the bed was comfortable. Its really a good value for money. I also had hot water in the shower.

Very small bathroom and toilet space.

Location was good, food and drinks were lovely.

Stayed on a triple room, there was not long mirror just the bathroom mirror, had all facilities however, a hairdryer would be good if this was on offer. The bathroom window would not close, so there was a draft which made the room cold.

This property has a lovely bar underneath with nice music which is a plus when trying to find entertainment for the evening. The hotel reception is beautiful and smelled fresh along with the staff being very attentive.

I feel the price of the stay (1 night, two adults) was a little bit steep considering it is a shared bathroom and our view was incredibly poor. (We had a roof and scaffolding outside the window and the window was filthy). There was also blood spots on the mattress and black hairs. (None of us had dark/black or short hair). The room was also cold and had a very strong/overbearing perfume smell.

    5MichelePosted on: 2-22-2026

The breakfast was very good. The room was comfortable. The staff were pleasant.

The cleanliness and facilities in the shared bathroom. If guests are sharing this facility then surely it should be checked and cleaned at regular intervals.

    The location

It was far too expensive , compared to other accommodation along with room being very dated and well below are expectations .Accepting it’s an old building there’s no excuse to have too wait for hot water for 5 minutes and then it just to be luke warm .Push taps again standing holding a tap to get a bowl of hot water is not acceptable.Bed was small and uncomfortable

This place is more of a pub than a hotel and essentially not a very good hotel. Ashame because the location is excellent

I didn't like the room, the shower or the toilet

    6DonnaPosted on: 2-20-2026

Loved the staff, no name badges otherwise I'd have named them. From the breakfast staff, to the reception staff all were lush.Liked the location.Breakfast was on point. Only £3 to go large.

We booked a small family room however for the price I'd have expected a bit more comfort. I'd read reviews that it was cold however there were heaters available (not required for room) saying that though the bathroom was FREEZING!!! Decore wasnt very clean in bathroom either, toilet roll holder was like something from a public toilet. We stopped 2 nights first night about 2 hrs kip, the beds were so hard and small double didn't help when your not used to it. Second night couple having a barney outside our room quite scary, delivery lorry at 3am, and couple in room above getting in at 3.30am were a delight NOT.I would stop again but only because of location and amazing staff, but to be honest I would be looking elsewhere first.

Location was great. Staff were friendly and helpful.

Water pressure in shower was very low and wasnt hot enough fpr two people to shower straight after eachother so had to wait.

    7IonaPosted on: 2-20-2026

The location was central to all amenities, the staff were all very pleasant, the food was great

The shower wasn’t very hot, so I didn’t bother, as it was only a couple of nights, and no hairdryer in the room

    8MichaelPosted on: 2-19-2026

The room was very clean as was the rest of the hotel. The reception We received was extremely polite & efficient. The location of Mitre is absolutely perfect between Victoria Station and the Town Centre.

    No complaints.

    10KaitlinPosted on: 2-19-2026

Breakfast available for the morning, room service, own bathroom, simple amenities like a kettle and iron, very comfy bed

Shower took a little while to warm up but that's no fault of the hotel simply just an old building, windows could use a little update as they didn't close fully(it let a little draft in but the radiators seemed to mask it quite well)

    3MarthaPosted on: 2-19-2026

The property is very well located, in the heart of Manchester near picadilly and arendale mall. It s good looking and the staff is nice.

The elefant in the room was hot water, I mean, non existing hot water as they were having issues with that and we had to used communal shower where there are electrical heating showers (don’t ask me why they don’t have same in every other room with bathroom) and I must tell you that in those communal bathrooms there was no heat at all. The windows are made of wood, old style, so imagine that and 2 degrees outside. We stayed for 4 days and 3 days there was no hot water, or as they might say, there were only 2 days without hot water, the 3rd day was with lukewarm water (not good for showering anyways).

Good Location ,staff is very nice

Very old building, cold and the rooms was in the third floor no lift ,very noisy bathroom as the toilet was flushing and producing noice every few minutes .

    Location

Age and lack of a toilet in my room although the sd clearly stated one

    10MarkPosted on: 2-17-2026

Friendly and helpful staffBeautiful views of the cathedral

Nothing really but if had to write something I’d say the only disappointing thing is due to being a very old building (albeit beautiful) the hot water takes a long time in the mornings to come through.

    The Sunday roast was good.

I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. This standard of hotel would not be allowed in Ireland. It was listed as three stars - We would not give it one. The doors in the room couldn't open fully. We no problem to keep the door open into the room and open the window to let some fresh air into the room before entering the room every time. The room not just smelled bad it 'stank'. We both spoke to housekeeping the first morning and the woman said 'I know' - that's why we are shaking this on the hallway carpet (I didn't see a brand name) nothing was done, the bed wasn't even made. We spoke to reception the following morning and not only about the smell (the room and hall and bathroom had air fresheners, not sure what effect they had!) but the other issues; the lack of hot water (the waste of water wating to get lukewarm water was litres and litres), the rod for holding up the shower head kept coming off in my hand when I tried to raise the shower head which kept falling down. The unevenness of even the furniture. My earring rolled of the table. We had to ask that the room be serviced and clean towels as the room is only serviced every 3 days!!!The mattress had very little padding over the springs and was years old, likewise the mattress cover was long beyond useful and the towels were the thinnest I've seen in years. We had to open the window and door and let them open before we could even go into the room. I always unpack even if I'm staying only one night - neither of us unpacked!!!!There is no lift in the hotel - ok it's an old building, but the stairs is uneven in places and the carpet threadbare. It is no place for someone with mobility issues as even the reception is up 14 steps of stairs. When we complained about the room to the receptionist we were told the 'it is an old building'.My recommendation - eat dinner and leave.
